Good Morning All, I have been lurking/responding to messages in the mailing list for a few moths and just realized that I have never made an official introduction post. My name is Keith I Myers, I reside in South Florida and have been a Ubuntu user since Jaunty (9.04). I have been using Ubuntu Gnome for a few years and feel that it is one of the most polished distributions out there. Aside from Ubuntu, I am a huge Android Fanatic and one of the first Google Glass owners. I currently work as a senior software engineer as my full time job where I work with Ubuntu all day long. I also have worked in several industries including the Web Hosting Industry. After several years of using Ubuntu Gnome, I feel it is about time to give back to the community. I have already started helping out with Q/A Testing and have expressed interest in working with the Marketing Team. Introduction
Good evening all, I am new to testing so please bear with me... I'm Marco van der Heide, 42 years young, from the Netherlands. For 19 years I've been working in the IT, for almost 18 years I've been working with Unix and later Linux. Lately my field of work has shifted to the Microsoft platform (Windows, MS SQL, Visual Studio, etc), but my passion really goes out to Linux. Together with my son I play a lot of games on Steam (thanks Valve!). You can find us there as vdheide.net. And today I read the announcement of Ali Linx about the need for extra hands on testing. So here I am trying to give something back to a really good product which I've been using for so long now... At home I started using Ubuntu GNOME as soon as it came out. (I really like Ubuntu, but I'm not really a Unity fan). So if I ask stupid questions, just think of me as the silly guy from the Netherlands ... Hope to see you all, Marco -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome
[Testing] Installation and personal introduction
Hello, I want to contribute to the Gnome Project by doing testing and translation in any way I can, since I don't see any material related to Translation I'm going to be doing the QA testing. I have Spare computers to use in my office and I have about an hour or more a day so I hope I can help as much as possible. With that in mind also want to say that my experience in Linux is a little mixed, I've been using it as a Server for more than 7 years and I tried using Ubuntu since version 9 but I always get bottlenecked because of video performance (I have a Nvidia GTX 260), usually if I open 3 or 4 tabs with youtube videos the FPS just went down... Ok, but now that is over, Nvidia has made better drivers and started to contribute a little more in the Linux community so now I'm exited and I want to be part of the change. So to no further talking about me, I would like to ask about something in the testing area: I'm installing Gnome Daily and when I get to the installer, it reports that it finds a Network interface and tries to connect but I doesn't work, if I use a stable release installer it works right away. How can I test this things to report the bug and not sound like Internet doesn't work person. Hope to help, Sincerely, Manuel -- Ubuntu-GNOME mailing list Ubuntu-GNOME@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-gnome
Re: [Testing] Installation and personal introduction
I'm installing Gnome Daily Which one exactly? I'm Using Sauce Daily 26-09-2013 That was a bug and I believe it is fixed now. I was just on Ubuntu GNOME Saucy and I had an internet connection http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2174765 Ok, I finished the install and it also does't work on the main install, if I do a ifup eth0 it say ignoring unkown interface eth0=eth0 but in ifconfig it shows the interface. Re: [Testing] Installation and personal introduction
Hmm, my system works just fine. Does it work from the LiveCD/LiveUSB? I've Installed from a LiveUSB Ok, I think the problem is that the DHCP server is not giving the computer an IP because I can do a manual ip setting and it works, I tested the LiveUsb on a Netbook and it works with Wifi and the DHCP gives and IP with no problems, so It might be the cable or something like that, nothing related to the ISO, the only bug that I found was that it doesn't prompt to restart after installation, it just reboots. I will file that info on the test submit and thank you for helping out.
