[ubuntu-in] How about a glade-gnome-3 tutorial?

2007-05-05 Thread shirish

Hi all,
How about having a glade-gnom-3 tutorial, there is already a glade2
tutorial at
http://www.kplug.org/glade_tutorial/glade2_tutorial/glade2_introduction.html.
I'm just starting to understand how things work there, while being no
programmer but
just to make mockups. I can supply all the screenshots for the new version
if somebody
is willing to see if there are changes to be made in the tutorial with the
introduction of
glade-gnome-3 . Please pm me only if you are committed to seeing this
through, giving
attribution to the original authors & the site from where we took it,
perhaps making it
more cleaner, easier for everybody to use.

Umm, no. The elections did happen. Just that you were not there at that
time; and no body applied after that.

As far as my knowledge goes , Registering a legal body is a lengthy
and cumbersome process including a lot of money .My view is that it
may be done , but in future.

As far as structure implementation goes, i haven`t seen/heard any
elections, members registration etc. In my opinion it`s a write-up

I have seen the logs of the last IRC meeting , discussions were good
no doubt , But again they remained only discussions, I stopped
complaining as it looked everybody is just happy with the current
proceedings, I would love if this discussion happens on list. And
hoping things get better.

Btw: I am voluntarily taking responsibilities of Ubuntu Hindi

With 6.06 in LTS, and 7.04 the latest, I guess, there
won't be requests for 6.10. I think, only when there
are requests for this particular version, the CDs will
be used.

The wiki, has to evolve. I have only managed to find
out about using Broadband (internet) on Ubuntu /
Kubuntu and have updated the same. So I guess, others
have to push in what they try out and help out in
contributing if they achieve success.

Re: [ubuntu-in] How to Connect to internet using ADSL router in Ubuntu 7.04 ?

2007-05-05 Thread Bhasker C V
As Mehul told, the best way would be to connect via LAN port.
There are 2 methods in ADSL.
one is where you connect via LAN card and dialup in the machine.
The other is where you give the dialup credentials in the ADSL modem
itself. This method will be the most easiet one since the NAT, Default
gateway and the DNS caching server is taken care by the modem itself.

[ubuntu-in] Rejuvenating the LoCo team

2007-05-05 Thread Soumyadip Modak
Hi,
I don't know whether I should be saying this (considering I myself
haven't been active), but I think ubuntu-in.org LoCo team is slowing
down a bit. Going through the logs, it seems that the most popular
article on our site is the year-old article that I wrote for SATA RAID
on Dapper. It is sad that no major articles of note have been put
forward in the last one year, apart from the Broadband and GPRS
articles.

I'd like to invite suggestions for revamping and improving the content
on ubuntu-in.org website. Please note that when you put forward
suggestions, you better be prepared to implement them yourself. ;)

One aspect I'd like to see addressed at the website is that there are
hardly any screencasts. I remember that people on the IRC channel were
discussing about Istanbul sometime ago. What has been the progress ?
Who can make a screencast on how to install and use Istanbul to make a
screencast. :) Another one on getting 3D desktops, the Ubuntu way ?

I'd also like to see people contributing tutorials on programming.
Sun's J2EE stack is being shipped in Multiverse, who is the resident
Java guru here who'll be doing an article/screencast on using that to
get started ? How about a Django screencast ? Extend that with a
screencast on adding AJAX to a sample Django application. Weren't some
members of ubuntu-in working on some sort of 8086 simulator or
something similar ? How about an article/screencast on that ?

I'm throwing up ideas here. I'd like to hear what others have to say.

[ubuntu-in] How to Connect to internet using ADSL router in Ubuntu 7.04 ?

2007-05-05 Thread pgiresident pgi

Hi all,
This is Santam Chakraborty from Chandigarh. I have installed ubuntu 7.04 on
my system ( dual booting with Win XP. I have a Tata Indicom Broadband
connection using a ADSL router from Billion (BIPAC 5200 S). I have a
permanent IP address. I tried to connect to the net using the networking
program where I selected the option of static IP and then typed the IP
address / Subnet / Gateway and also typed in the preferred DNS servers -
however an internet connection didnot materialize. I then tried to see if I
could use the ADSL connection method in the help file using "sudo pppoeconf"
method. This also failed. I have also tried using DHCP as an option in the
networking program but that also failed to work.
I have used the same router based connection in freespire after just typing
in the static IP/Subnet/Gateway and preferred DNS addresses provided to me
by the ISP with minimal hassles. So I am pretty sure that I can use this
connection in Ubuntu.
I would be obliged if someone can give me the step by step method to get my
net up and running as it is the only thing preventing me from moving over to
Linux completely.
Thanks
Santam Chakraborty
