[Bug 62195] Re: edgy update-grub destroys kopt
I've another configuration where this update-grub undocumented feature is a problem. I'm using several (20) Hardy+LTSP servers with 2 (strictly) identical disks, mounted in amovible disk racks. The second one is a backup mirror of the first one (using an initial dd copy). Every night, a rsync routine updates the second disk, and the system is rebooted. t's a kind of mirror backup, a compromise between RAID and regular backup. In case of first (boot) disk crash, users just need to swap disk racks and reboot to get a running system within a couple of minutes, which is the main goal of this approach (used in public schools). The only solution to get this to work is to use device names (i.e /dev/sd?) in menu.lst, not UUIDs. I can't use different UUIDS for the 2 disks: in that case, the 2 menu.lst files would be different. Rsync will overwrite any change, and reboot after a disk crash will not work. I can't use identical UUIDS for the 2 disks: in that case, grub randomly boots from first or second disk... So I need to get a menu.lst using disk device names instead of UUIDs. And update-grub (launched automatically at every kernel update) gently wipes out my kopt option... I think it's definitely a bug: update-grub MUST keep the kopt option just like it reads it from menu.lst, and must not try to reset to another value (containing UUIDs). [Bug 90681] Re: resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc...
I suppose some people might have problems if their VPN solution completely replaces /etc/resolv.conf. That might require a more sophisticated solution This is the case for me. My resolv.conf gets replaced whenever I connect to my vpn. This is to avoid doing dns resolution on an untrusted network (e.g., free wifi at coffee shop). Also in cases where the network I'm on is sandboxed, such as the wireless segment of my lan, there is limited DNS resolution available. In this case, full dns resolution must be done at the trusted end of the tunnel. When the dhcp renewal blows away my trusted resolv.conf, then the result is either that DNS resolution moves to the untrusted network, or DNS resolution breaks because resolv.conf now points to the sandbox DNS address. -- resolv.conf overwritten using VPN/PPP etc... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/90681 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245585] [NEW] ar5212 and WPA-PSK : wpa_supplicant not picking my essid
Public bug reported: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 Hi, I have this problem since several weeks and the forums didn't help, so maybe it is a bug. It showed up suddenly on my Gutsy : everything was working fine, then my wireless connection (Atheros ar5212) suddenly started to get slower and I had to relaunch it several times (sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart) before trying to reboot (sometimes the wireless stack needs to be cleaned or something and rebooting works nice). But since that reboot I can't connect any more to my wifi, because wpa_supplicant fails to pick my essid and keeps trying other available essids. I decided to upgrade to Hardy but I have the same problem, so it shouldn't be, as suggested before, a brokage of the madwifi driver. I didn't have to compile and install it for Gutsy, the one included in the kernel modules was working nicely. I'm using wext for a long time now, can't remember why but I think madwifi was failing to work with my WPA- SPK + static IP configuration. I did my setup that was working nicely with this how-to : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=318539 Moreover, since I had this problem on Gutsy, the driver was working at least to give me the available essids when I was typing iwlist scanning, and I can get the same list on Hardy now. Finally under Windows the connectivity is good and with the same parameters as always, so it shouldn't be a hardware problem. The problem could be that wpa-supplicant can't authentificate any more to my essid, it may fail to give the password or it may be a problem with the WPA-PSK protocol ? Maybe something changed on my router (it's a Freebox, it sometimes updates and maybe the WPA-PSK protocol I'm using is no longer available ?), but in that case it's a change that Windows XP would have been able to correct automatically. Really I wonder what's happening. I'm giving below my configuration. I'm not using Network manager because last time I tried (on Feisty I guess) it couldn't manage a WPA connection with a fixed IP. /etc/network/interfaces == # This file describes the network interfaces available on your system # and how to activate them. [Bug 151409] Re: No graphical shutdown in Gutsy
Hello, thanks for reporting this bug. Are you still having this problem? [Bug 244486] Re: Vertical line across gPHPEdit canvas
Could be the suggested line wrap width. Usually beetwen 60-80 characters from the beginning of the line. Developers use that to know when they should wrap the code to a new line in order to keep their code readable and adherent to the code formatting convention they choose. Try to check if there's something about that in the preferences. You could be able to disable it or modify the place where it appears. Also increasing/decreasing the font size used by the editor should influence that line position. If you can reproduce this kind of behaviour I'd suggest marking this bug as invalid -- Vertical line across gPHPEdit canvas https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244486 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 245583] [NEW] Could not see dialog in test mode due to large virtual display size
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: displayconfig-gtk I was using displayconfig-gtk in low-graphics mode (bullet-proof-x) to try to repair my system, so it was running at 800x600. The proprietary nvidia driver was broken, and I attempted to fall back to the open source nv driver. [Bug 201097] Re: [Hardy]Weird behaviour when moving icons on desktop
I do not experience this problem on an up-to-date xubuntu 8.04 install with the intel driver on an intel video card. moving an icon around in a painting manner allows a shaded image of the icon to remain in its original location until I drop the icon in the new location. then the image in the old location instantly disappears, and the icon is placed in the new location by the regular looking icon. it sounds like jerome is experiencing a different issue than what i have described above, but let me know if i have misunderstood the original report. -- [Hardy]Weird behaviour when moving icons on desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/201097 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
