[Bug 223226] Re: Upgrade from kubuntu Dapper requires manual intervention and kdm shutdown

2008-10-06 Thread kko
So why does it take six months to get a one-line change made to a single
web page???

Hmm well, there's a limited number of eyes looking at bugs and of people
fixing things, so patience is a virtue. You did mention you're impatient
though. :-)

Then again, it seems the fact that 'kdm' did require manual stopping
wasn't actually expected. Perhaps there are other remedies for the issue
that may allow dist-upgrades directly from X in the future also for
Kubuntu? (Not a huge priority for me, but may be more important from the
developers' / other users' point of view.)

[Bug 278954] [NEW] read-only bind mounts cause spurious EROFS

2008-10-06 Thread Peter Cordes
Public bug reported:

I installed the Intrepid kernel (linux-image-2.6.27-5-server on an
otherwise-Hardy x86-64 server (I do have Intrepid's initramfs-tools, and
a non-current-Intrepid module-init-tools).

/dev being read-only bind mounted on /dev/.static/dev somehow causes
Linux to return EROFS for only some operations on the root filesystem.
(My root filesystem is XFS. Yes, this works, you just can't setup grub
on it from linux, so I boot grub from USB or PXE after the initial
install of Ubuntu.)

I don't have this problem on my pre-Intrepid desktop at home running
2.6.27-4-generic, with a JFS root filesystem (and /dev read-only bind
mounted). And I didn't notice it on my pre-Intrepid laptop with
2.6.27-5-generic (IIRC), with an ext3 rootfs. It's not on, so I can't
check it's status right now. So either a server kernel bug, or an XFS
bug, I'd guess.

symptoms:
# strace touch /etc/bar # /etc/bar doesn't exist beforehand
close(0)= 0
open(/etc/bar, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_NOCTTY|O_NONBLOCK, 0666) = 0

utimes(/etc/bar, NULL)= -1 EROFS (Read-only file system)
close(0)= 0

/etc/bar now exists.

# strace chmod 644 /etc/mtab

fchmodat(AT_FDCWD, /etc/mtab, 0644) = -1 EROFS (Read-only file system)

/proc/mounts showed that / was mounted rw, but /dev/.static/dev was mounted ro.
mount /dev /dev/.static/dev -o remount,rw makes metadata ops work again on the
root filesystem.

/proc/mounts (after remount)
rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
/dev/disk/by-uuid/dc2372d6-5ae9-4b28-8fe5-108c779e82fb / xfs

rw,noquota 0 0

/etc/fstab
# /dev/sda1
UUID=dc2372d6-5ae9-4b28-8fe5-108c779e82fb   /   xfs
relatime,inode64,noikeep0 1

It's a 10GB filesystem, so I probably don't need inode64...

Let me know if you have any problem reproducing this, and I can get more
details on my server.

2008-10-06 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks.

This bug in audacious was fixed recently by removing the pre-depends.
The updated package is in hardy-updates, but update-manager doesn't
appear to be looking in hardy-updates for universe packages here, which
is why it still fails for you. Would you mind attaching your

[Bug 273971] Re: Firefox 3.0.2 problem with Citrix ICA Client

2008-10-06 Thread J.A. Watson
I have tested this problem with the Intrpeid Beta release, and it is
still exactly the same:

- With the standard Intrepid Beta distribution, including Firefox 3.0.3,
the Citrix ICA Client does not work. It gets to the point where it says
SecureHCLoader init..., and then says SecureHCLoaded bail, and
thereafter no clients will start.

- If I disable the Ubuntu extension for Firefox, the Citrix ICA Client
then works normally

- If I download and install the Firefox 3.0.3 distribution from Mozilla,
the Citrix ICA client works

[Bug 133957] Re: Dolphin uses fish: instead of sftp: for SSH connections

2008-10-06 Thread Harald Sitter
From IRC:
apachelogger ScottK: KDE actually suggests sftp over fish, the latter is not
as well maintained and got serious issues with non-latin characters, so since
sftp works out of the box on Kubuntu just as well as fish it makes sense to
have knetattach use sftp. fish is still available for those who need/want to
use it.

Fish is no sensible default, so since we can say that sftp works by
default it makes sense to change knetattach. Should someone need to use
fish, they still can do that, but by default Kubuntu should suggest the
usage of sftp.

Hi Ivan,

For some reason, x-www-browser isn't running properly. (we popup to a

You can update x-www-browser to use a different web browser by running:

update-alternatives --config x-www-browser

Then select a different browser. Sorry for the problems.

[Bug 5890] Re: Video Out GUI

2008-10-06 Thread James Westby
Hi,

I've opened an upstream task for this bug, as I think this should be
discussed with the developers of gnome-display-properties, as it
may well be suitable for that tool to do this. However, I am not
familiar enough with video out and what setting it up entails to file
the enhancement request at GNOME's bugzilla. The upstream
task will serve as a reminder that this needs to be done.

Thanks,

[Bug 36189] Re: Applets do not scale well with changing resolution

2008-10-06 Thread Franck
It seems the workaround is working out of the box, without any user
action (kind of a fix, in fact :)

When were the said gconf keys introduced ?

I went to the said keys in gconf and found they were already set
(panel_right_stick, ...).

So I changed my resolution, relaunched gdm, relogged-in, changed again
back to 1200x800, and the applets where in the right place/ right order,
except for the one that was in the middle of my panel, at a fixed
position.

So, apllets on the left where on the left, applets on the right where on
the right in good order, and applets at an arbitrary fixed position were
at an other arbitry fixed position.

Not so bad.
Quite good.

Fixed ?

[Bug 278982] [NEW] Unable to block ARP broadcasts of secondary addresses in order to use IPVS

2008-10-06 Thread batosai
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-server

I have an IPVS load balancer configured for direct routing which works fine.
In order for WebServers to handle requests, they need to have the virtual IP
(frontal) configured as a secondary interface of lo.

This is set with 'ifconfig lo:0 $VIP netmask 255.255.255.255 up'.
To avoid ARP problem, IPVS documentation says I should block ARP announces with
the following commands lines in /etc/sysctl.conf :
net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_ignore=1
net.ipv4.conf.eth0.arp_ignore=1
net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_announce=2
net.ipv4.conf.eth0.arp_announce=2

After a reboot, I checked that above values were correctly set in /proc/ and
they were.
As soon as I bring up secondary address on lo, the load balancer receives a lot
(one per request) of SYN_RECV from the switch, meaning the webservers are
announcing themselves despites the above configuration.

Load balancer and webservers are Ubuntu 8.04.1 Server.

[Bug 275608] Re: nm-openvpn swaps ca-cert and user-cert labels when using Passwords with Certificate (TLS) mode

2008-10-06 Thread Thierry Carrez
0.7~~svn20080928t225540-0ubuntu1 revamped that panel. The issue still
exists, the patch needs adaptation.

Reproduction:
Create a new VPN. Select authentication type Certificate (TLS). Select :
User Certificate: user.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
CA Certificate: ca.crt
Private key: user.key
Switch to authentication type Password with certificate(TLS). You now get:
User name: (current user name)
Password: (empty)
CA Certificate: user.crt
User Certificate: ca.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
Private Key: user.key

Since a password box now appears just below User certificate,
inverting labels is confusing (the password box applies the user
certificate, not the CA one). The proposed patch is to inverse file
selectors rather than labels, resulting in :

User name: (current user name)
Password: (empty)
CA Certificate: ca.crt
User Certificate: user.crt
Certificate password: (empty)
Private Key: user.key

which is correct.

[Bug 209358] Re: fonts in Qt4 look ugly because it uses Nimbus Sans L instead of Deja Vu Sans for Sans-Serif

2008-10-06 Thread Hannes Kuhnert
I’m trying KDE 4 these days and I was surprised to see everything in
Helvetica (Nimbus Sans). It had adopted the font settings of KDE 3 which
demand a sans serif generically, fontconfig resolves “Sans Serif” to
“Lucida Sans”, as “fc-match” shows, but Qt 4 (KDE 4) anyway uses
Helvetica for generic sans serif.

That hardcoded substitution in Qt 4 is really annoying. I’m really using
the flexible fontconfig configuration framework, but Qt 4 breaks it,
demanding much higher efforts in configuring applications to my wishes.
That is a question of standard compliance. I’m going to contact Qt
Software (formerly known as Trolltech).

Hi,

The Debian bug was never a problem for Ubuntu as we still have
rrdtool 1.2.

There has been an upload of netmrg in the meantime, so this is
now a merge, sorry about that. I'll work on the merge if no-one beats
me to it.

Thanks,

[Bug 276096] Re: SRU: We could make modprobe less slow by building it with proper CFLAGS

2008-10-06 Thread Matt Zimmerman
This change is required for MID and netbook builds, and I would rather
we make the change in an SRU than have a different module-init-tools in
those builds.

I think putting it into hardy-proposed for an extended period is
perfectly reasonable. MID and netbook builds can pull this package in,
and it can be thoroughly tested there before being released to hardy-
updates.

[Bug 272779] Re: evolution's documentation should be split in locale packages to save space

2008-10-06 Thread Sebastien Bacher
opening bugs for that is not really useful, the ubuntu team is aware of
those issues but splitting documentations this way is not ideal, it
creates divergence over debian, requires to manually add those depends
to language packs, create extra index entries in the package database
and wouldn't scale. It could be done for some packages if required but
what would be better would be to discuss a strategy to have those in
language-packs which would work for everything and not require to do
extra changes to the sources

[Bug 187145] Re: [Hardy] KVM fails after upgrade

2008-10-06 Thread Kai Blin
I've been running into kvm issues in 8.04 a lot as well, so I decided
I'd give the current 8.10 kernel a try. However, it seems like the
compile instructions are for 8.10, at least I can't find makedumpfile on
8.04, and make-kpkg fails for linux_2.6.27-5.8.tar.gz as well.

I'm willing to help test this, but I'm not sure how helpful it'd be for
you folks if I build the kernel just like building a vanilla kernel.

[Bug 223226] Re: Upgrade from kubuntu Dapper requires manual intervention and kdm shutdown

2008-10-06 Thread Harald Sitter
KDM doesn't require manual stopping.
NSS is, KDM uses NSS so glibc suggests to restart KDM.

I am still thinking about this, but in my humble opinion this is really
an issue with the wording of the libc6 posinst script. It should advise
to do a KDM restart _after_ the upgrade. It really doesn't make any
difference if I restart it mid-upgrade or post-upgrade for KDM.

I'll just make this bug affect glibc and see what it's specialists
think.

2008-10-06 Thread Id2ndR

appears, sometime doesn't, with the same gdm custo conf file.
Bug #264696 takes care of the real problem.

RE: [Bug 278944] Re: Coma button don't work anymore

2008-10-06 Thread plikplok

Thanks for answering.

Why would you need to enter a comma in the calculator?

Because it's usefull.
If I want to calculate and I need to do 5,99 + 6,38 + 7,56 + 8,90+2,72 it's
actually not possible...
The calculator will do this : 599 + 699+756+890+272

Just try it to understand.
