How did you do it? Sean Just enable the 3d desktop in the appearance menu, then install compizconfig-settings-manager from universe. You can enable/disable all this kind of stuff in there, it'll also tell you the key combinations to do this kinda stuff for each option. Hi Guys, slightly off-topic, but I would appreciate your thoughts on this This was inspired by the news of the G1 phone being released in the UK on the 30th of October (http://tinyurl.com/48s4gp). Some questions; * How free is the OS really?? I know it has a Linux based kernel and will be open source (?), but with the 100% free OpenMoko, would OM be better? * Is it worth tying into a contract with t-mobile (also phone will be sim-locked), ie - does this go against what freedom is about, or is it a necessary evil? (like proprietary drivers/firmware) * Better to wait for the G2, G3 etc etc due to maturity of OS and better hardware? or cooler to be an early adopter - assumable it will be 'easily' upgradeable on the OS side. * And the ultimate question... black or white? I've even had someone from a translation team ask me: who reviews our translations and decides what goes into Ubuntu? 4. People experiencing this find it hard to get to the places where their effort is going to be most useful, especially without good team coordination, and come up with ideas for fixing this in the UI. They are often good ideas, often overlapping or conflicting ones, never perfect solutions. And so far we never quite get around to choosing ones and implementing them. A lot of the fallout ends up with us, the application developers, even when some of them are at least partly matters of Ubuntu community organisation. We spend a lot of time on this, despite various policies and practices aimed at minimizing them, because until recently the Ubuntu division did not have anyone at all to coordinate the translation effort. That's been partly addressed now, in the Intrepid cycle, but the new role is still gearing up. We do make improvements on the engineering side to help address these problems: Ubuntu translations to language that have nobody to manage them no longer solicit suggestions. We no longer need to take Launchpad offline to initialize translations for a new release. A lot of outdated or misleading UI text about translation teams has been cleaned up and documentation has been rewritten. Also, as of next month, upstream translations will start replacing ones that are translated only in Launchpad but not upstream. (This would have rolled out last night, but we were busy dealing with Ubuntu imports operationally). Message-sharing will break down the walls between translations of different Ubuntu releases, eliminating much duplication of effort and taking a huge amount of pain out of translation openings, but it's a major effort that we complete one step at a time. Given the amount of pain it can cause, I think moving templates ahead of translations as general practice is replacing one problem with another. Our current plans are to open translations for new Ubuntu series much more aggressively, building on the organisational changes being made on the Ubuntu side; continue improving documentation thanks to the unrelenting efforts of Matthew Revell; and continue with these technical measures. A more precisely outlined procedure might still help. For instance, we might want to prioritize templates that have been Approved for a long time but which don't have any translations in the queue. One limitation there would be that the auto-approval process is already loading our script server more heavily than we'd like. Or we might want to show careful, this translation has an import coming warnings. The limitations there would be UI design, page rendering cost, and engineering time. Firefox startup page translation
What about translate ALL the Firefox startup page? Since Hardy (or even before, I can't remember), the Firefox startup page contains a Google search box (with a Search button) and a right sidebar with Ubuntu-related information (Get Ubuntu Support, Ubuntu Merchandise, Get Involved with Ubuntu and Ubuntu Forms). All those information are untranslated, and can't be translated in any way. Therefore, my Firefox startup page contains both Spanish and English strings, which is rather ugly :( It could be great to get them fully translated. O Ubuntu tem um pacote de camuflagem que muda o nome e a marca de OpenOffice pra BrOffice. Não é exatamente o BrOffice como se você tivesse baixado os debs do site e instalado, algumas coisas ficam diferentes. O fato de o Mandriva já colocar o nome BrOffice realmente é bem legal, agora se ele colocar os pacotes do BrOfifce e não apenas uma camuflagem aí deve ser aplaudido de pé. A unica parte que é ruim no systemrescue é que ele não configura a placa de rede automaticamente, voce precisa na unha : ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.x ifconfig eth0 up Sei lá, a versão anterior do systemrescue já pegava as informacoes via dhcp, nessa ultima versão é tudo na mão. De qualquer forma, é uma livecd muito boa e leve, diferentemente do livecd do Ubuntu que tem requisitos altos, o systemrescue roda em máquinas antigas. Olá, resolvi o problema, seguindo esse tutorial: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351 reconfigurei meu Grub e tudo voltou ao normal. Abraços 2008/10/16 Filipe Guedes [EMAIL PROTECTED] Bom dia a todos, tenho (ou pelo menos tinha) o Ubuntu 8.04 instalado em um notebook Compaq Armada E500 Funcionava que era uma maravilha, nunca me deu problema. Decidi instalar também o Arch Linux nele para fuçar e aprender um pouco mais. Primeira coisa foi reparticionar o HD. Baixei uma iso do GParted Live e redimencionei a partição / do ubuntu (/dev/sda2) ficando com o /dev/sda2 como partição primária um pouco menor do que era e /dev/sda5 como partição extendida. Com a partição redimencionada bootei meu ubuntu para confirmar se não havia nenhum problema até o momento. Ele só não reconheceu a minha partição SWAP. Vi que no fstab ele montava o swap e o / através de um UID que pelo que deduzi era o ID da partição. Ai pensei que como tinha redimensionado a partição os ID's mudavam mesmo. Alterei o fstab do seguinte modo: /dev/sda1 none swap 0 0 /dev/sda2 / reiserfs notail, realtime 0 1 dei um boot na máquina e tudo voutou ao normal. Próximo passo foi a instalação do Arch. Instalei normalmente sem nenhum problema. Como esse Arch era apenas para testes instalei ele inteiro no /dev/sda3 sem dividir /home e /boot em partições separadas. E para swap usei o mesmo que já existia para o Ubuntu. Após a instalação o grub do Arch não reconheceu meu Ubuntu. Montei a partição do Ubuntu e dei um cat no menu.lst do Ubuntu e adicionei as entradas exatamente iguais no menu.lst do Arch, Após esse pricedimento consegui iniciar o processo de boot no Ubuntu, mas no meio do boot me é acusado o seguinte erro: Begin: Mounting root file system... ... /init: /init: 160: Syntax error: 0xUID=736ab005-f6f5-4b3f-8b0e-de06b6bc05e6 [6.016519] init used greatest stack depth: 5404 bytes left [6.016619] Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! Como ele deu kernel panic a primeira coisa que eu pensei foi recompilar o kernel. Baixei o kernel 2.6.27, compilei, coloquei no /boot da partição do Ubuntu arrumei o menu.lst para bootar com esse kernel mas me é apresentado o mesmo erro. Acredito que seja problema com o parâmetro root=UID=***. Segue o trecho de boot do Ubuntu no menu.lst title Ubuntu Linux root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic root=UID=736ab005-f6f5-4b3f-8b0e-de06b6bc05e6 ro initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.24-19-generic Alguém teria alguma luz de como resolver isso? Não sei mais o que fazer. Não queria ter que reinstalar meu Ubuntu pois demorei para deixa-lo funcionando redondo do jeito que eu gosto. O remastersys cria uma imagem iso bootavel da sua instalação e coloca nele o instalador do Ubuntu, assim depois de gerado o cd e queimado ele, e um boot por ele e notará que funcionará como um livecd normal cim as tuas coisas sem que voce necessite instala-las, mas se voce optar por instalar ficará igual só que no disco. O único inconveniente é tempo, pois quando maior a imagem, mais lento é a carga e instalação. Quando estou instalando uma imagem de 2G do DVD tem um procedimento da instalação chamado de 'detectando o hardware' que leva uns 20min, faz parecer que o micro travou quando na realidade ainda deve estar copiando algo. Se sua instalação atual requer um 1GB de RAM para funcionar, seu livecd também precisará onde voce tentar bootar por ele. O procedimento é seguro, mas é conveniente voce testar a instalação numa máquina virtual, assim voce não precisa queimar um CD fisicamente e poderá testar a instalação de sua .iso 2008/10/16 ..:: S.e.r.i.a.L ::.. Se vc tem 8.04 e atualiza para a 8.10 beta, eu acho que quando sair a versão final, alguns arquivos serão baixados mas com certeza serão bem menos arquivos que atualizar 8.04 para a final. Ou seja nao se preocupe em atualizar pra 8.10 beta pq quando sair a final seu ubuntu ajusta isso com uma nova atualização. Depois disso, va nos menus Sistema - Administraçao - Windows Wireless Drivers... quando abrir a janela do utilitario, eh soh instalar os drivers para o windows XP da sua placa de rede padrao-N. Se voce nao tiver instalado o gerenciador de rede do Ubuntu, pode instalar os pacotes network-manager, network-manager-gnome e net-tools. Com esses pacotes voce vai ter um icone de configuraçao de rede na barra superior do Gnome, facilitando a configuraçao da sua rede sem fio. Prezado Eduardo, A atualização foi aquela que aparecem de vez em quando no canto do painel,em forma de asterisco laranja, realmente não sei quais foram, minha placa de video não está sendo reconhecida, é uma Nvidia de 32, vou substitui-la no sábado pra ver se o problema é com ela, caso contrario acho que infelizmente vou ter voltar para o W. O ubuntu não é tá me parecendo muito estável. O firefox fecha sozinho e depois só abre se reiniciar a maquina, as vezes mando o sistema desligar e ela não desliga ...e ai só puxando a tomada.Vou tentar reinstalar tudo e dar mais uma chance parece que existe uma versão mais recente não é? 2008/10/16 Eduardo Arruda [EMAIL PROTECTED] Que tipo de atualização foi feita?? Você vai desistir no PRIMEIRO tropeço? É possível que sua placa tenha problema (mas eu duvido). Acho mais provável que seu xorg.conf tenha alguma coisa errada. OU então sua atualização parou no meio. Experimente dar um apt-get -f install numa janela de terminal e veja se acontece alguma coisa. Outra possibilidade é que você tenha, inadvertidamente, selecionado uma resolução baixa. Tente executar o aplicativo de resolução de tela (Sistema Preferências Resolução de tela) e veja se não há versão superior disponível. Se não tiver, tente reconfigurar seu xserver num terminal: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. A gente resolve problemas tentando... rsrs Caso contrário, estamos só procurando desculpas para não avançarmos... O ubuntu não é tá me parecendo muito estável. Estável mesmo é o Windows... rsrs O firefox fecha sozinho e depois só abre se reiniciar a maquina, Você não reinicia a máquina. Esqueça isso. Hardware é hardware, software é software. Reiniciar só se der congelamento total, por mais de vinte segundos. Bem, para reiniciá-lo sem reiniciar a máquina você pode matar os processos usando o Monitor do Sistema (mate os processos do firefox apenas, OK?) ou então apagar o arquivo de trava (procure em ~/.firefox um arquivo chamado .lock). as vezes mando o sistema desligar e ela não desliga Isso acontece comigo tb as vezes. Quando isso acontecer, mate o X (Control + Alt + Backspace) e quando ele reiniciar mande desligar pela tela do GDM. Se o X não reiniciar, acione Control + Alt + F1 e faça um login em modo texto. Em seguida faça o seguinte: $ sudo su # killall gdm # gdm # exit ...e ai só puxando a tomada. De repente você ferrou com seu computador de ficar puxando a tomada (e aí põe a culpa no LInux). Lembre-se que software não estraga hardware, geralmente quem estraga são fatores externos ou então a famosa interface cadeira-teclado. Só para repetir NÃO PUXE A TOMADA. O jeito certo de desligar é pressionando o botão de desligamento na torre por 10 segundos. Isso desliga SEMPRE, sem precisar puxar tomada. Vou tentar reinstalar tudo e dar mais uma chance parece que existe uma versão mais recente não é? Reinstalar tudo é outro hábito de Windows. Se você não sabe qual é o problema ele vai acontecer de novo e você não saberá evitar. Aprenda a resolver o problema e quando ele ocorrer de novo você poderá ter a satisfação de dizer: Ah, danadinho, dessa vez você não me pega. Eu só reinstalo o sistema quando, após quatro ou cinco upgrades sucessivos, a máquina fica cheia de arquivos perdidos de versões antigas de programas. Sim, eu sou o lendário usuário do antigo Conectiva Linux que postou na Linux-BR que foi do CL 7 ao 10 sem formatar (e as versões do CL eram anuais). -- Coragem, homem. Não há de ser um softwarezinho qualquer que vai te fazer fraquejar. Com o alternate cd, parte dos pacotes que você precisará baixar para atualização estarão já no CD, então a quantidade de coisa baixada diretamente do site será menor. A vantagem do CD alternate é que você pode pegar com alguém próximo a você ou caso tenha que baixar a ISO, depois pode emprestar para alguém que queira atualizar também (ou você mesmo pode precisar mais tarde para outro PC). A unica parte que é ruim no systemrescue é que ele não configura a placa de rede automaticamente, voce precisa na unha : ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.x ifconfig eth0 up Sei lá, a versão anterior do systemrescue já pegava as informacoes via dhcp, nessa ultima versão é tudo na mão. De qualquer forma, é uma livecd muito boa e leve, diferentemente do livecd do Ubuntu que tem requisitos altos, o systemrescue roda em máquinas antigas. [Ubuntu-BR] Editor de Partições
Pessoal, problema sério (acho). Deu um pau inexplicavel na minha maquina, tive que reinstalar o windows. Resultado, perdi o GRUB. Nenhum tutorial na net deu certo. Pelo que entendi, no rolo anterior que fiz com instalação do linux e windows, que ficou com umas letras de unidades diferente da normal (C: para sistema, e outras letras para demais), agora depois do pau que deu, voltou tudo ao normal. Bom, no final das contas, pelo que entendi, não estou conseguinto recuperar o GRUB porque os sda está diferente, não sei se é possivel. A partição onde estava o Linux, não estava mais bootavel, e pelo jeito o arquivo fstab, estava errado. Alguém pode me ajudar a corrigir a bagunça??? Se alguém perguntar o que o assunto do e-mail tem haver como problema, reparei que o *Editor de Partições*, não traz as minhas partições, só consigo visualizar elas digitando fdisk -l no terminal. So, you volounteer for the job. Thanks a lot ;D For the format, you can directly work online with the embedded (WYSIWYG) editor on the website. You just need to register (either at http://ubuntu-be.org/drupal/user/register or by using the Log in using OpenID link). I will then grant you the right to edit page (send me a mail with your user name). Once it's done you will have Edit and Translate links on top of pages. This is the prefered way, since once you account is setuped you don't have to rely on others to publish you work. Of course, you are not required to register and use the embedded editor. You can also provide your translations in plain text format and have someone else edit the page to publish it. The current German text is not final, it is just a copy/paste of the old content (currently available at http://www.ubuntu-be.org) done by me (and I don't speak german at all). We are trying to use Launchpad[1] for bug/task tracking on the website. The bug for the German trasnlation is at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-belgium/+bug/252285. If you register or are registred on Launchpad, you could assign it to you and post feedback on your progress and question as comment. You could also attach your translation text files to the bug if you don't want to use the embedded editor. Don't be afraid to mess around by editing the website. By default, edit changes are tracked as revisions and we can always revert a page to its previous revisions. You also have to option to not publish your pages to let others review it. And the editor is very easy to use, it looks just like a tiny word processor. But as I said, you are only encouraged to use it, this is not a requirement. как установить OpenOffice 3.0

Уточнение: дистрибутив брал здесь http://mirror.yandex.ru/ubuntu-releases/8.04.1/ubuntu-8.04.1-desktop-i386.iso Контрольную сумму проверил, при установке проверял CD (из меню CD). RAM 376 Мб всего, но по системному монитору использовалось ~240 Мб, файл подкачки не использовался. Загрузка процессора 99-100%. В процессе загрузки обновлений замирал вращающийся кружочек курсора и системный монитор. (На этом же компьютере Win работает нормально.) Пробовал по привычке ctrl+alt+del, (про ctrl+alt+bs узнал недавно) - нет реакции. Редко кратко посверкивал индикатор HDD. Установил еще раз, запортил grub, установка не прошла. Поставил 7.10. Ох, и медленно в сравнении с 8.04, в ней заметен прогресс продуманности интерфейса установщика и др. Ubuntu 7.10 встала нормально, зависаний не было. Затем менеджер обновлений предложил установить 8.04, запустил - процесс долгий, прошел до конца, получил работающую систему. Можно было попробовать другой дистрибутив, что это за 8.04.1? 1-й релиз? Может, на Яндексе лежало что-то не то. Может, плохо считывался при установке с CD. Загадки случаются не только с Windows. Существует ли способ устанавливать с USB-флешки, на которую записан ISO-образ дистрибутива? Я, не углубляясь, пытался использовать Clonezilla, DRBL, но для них, кажется, нужно скачать ядро. Пробовал по привычке ctrl+alt+del, (про ctrl+alt+bs узнал недавно) - нет реакции. Редко кратко посверкивал индикатор HDD. Установил еще раз, запортил grub, установка не прошла. Поставил 7.10. Ох, и медленно в сравнении с 8.04, в ней заметен прогресс продуманности интерфейса установщика и др. Ubuntu 7.10 встала нормально, зависаний не было. Затем менеджер обновлений предложил установить 8.04, запустил - процесс долгий, прошел до конца, получил работающую систему. Можно было попробовать другой дистрибутив, что это за 8.04.1? 1-й релиз? это 8.04 с апдейтами от июля Может, на Яндексе лежало что-то не то. Может, плохо считывался при установке с CD. Загадки случаются не только с Windows. Существует ли способ устанавливать с USB-флешки, на которую записан ISO-образ дистрибутива? Я, не углубляясь, пытался использовать https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick Clonezilla, DRBL, но для них, кажется, нужно скачать ядро. Kqemu - это лишь эмулятор для Windows. GRUB? Как? Наверное, лучше отдельное письмо? Об этом знаю) но в моем случае не подходит.
