[ubuntu-art] [Breathe] Notifications Icons
Hey: Right now I have stopped using Breathe since it doesn't show any of the new Jaunty notifications at all, not even a black empty box. So, any plans to work on that or are you waiting for Ubuntu to fix that to work with other icons outside of Human? Also, how often is the PPA updated? Ubuntu Netbook Remix problem with Jaunty
Dear List! I installed Ubuntu Jaunty Alpha5 Netbook Remix version with my Asus Eeepc 701 netbook. The system is very fantastic. Jaunty starts my netbook 25-30 second (I using Ext4 filesystem). All hardvers works fine. I found one problem, and I don't known how can I solve. When I try going to the desktop with Ctrl+Alt+d combination, not happen nothing. I removed netbook-launcher applet, because it is inaccessible with Orca, and remove netbook-remix and maximus packages. I installed ubuntu-desktop package. Interesting, but my wife says me the desktop is not displayed (short test I put some icons with the desktop). Short question: I install normal Ubuntu Jaunty Alpha5 version my netbook? Normal version producing this positive results (starting 25-30 second and all hardware works fine)? I known, this netbook remix version is now yet a test release, but thanks this good work with developers, this is the first Ubuntu release with start fast my netbook (600 MHZ Cpu, 512 Mb memory and 4 GB SSD). Re: [usersUbuntuStudio] Jack lags...
Update, so after a nights configuring I think I know wherein the problem lies. :), I added Jack to the tray and now, when I start it, it gets completely red. I checked this up and supposedly it has to do with xruns(?). I also noticed that it helps changing the frames/period setting, but only to a degree(even at highest it's no good). I see now that this is not strange at all since it's the xruns that are causing it to slow down in the first place... Now all I have to figure out is why the xruns are being sent. Also I noticed something when starting alsamixer, I only have the masterbar. //paco On Fri, Mar 6, 2009 at 10:21 PM, Robert Klaar nim.b...@gmail.com wrote: Hi there again! Been configuring audio now for the most of my friday-evening, everything works fine except it doesn't :(. Pulseaudio works, mediaplayers routing to pulseaudio too, but things like Ardour, Hydrogen, everything Jack-based doesn't. It lags when I try to use any samples and everything that's not working can in one way or another be related to Jack. When I started up a new project in Ardour, a notice came up stating that I had locked my memory or something, I looked up how to unlock this and now the notice is gone but nothing has changed with how it sounds, allthought it seemed reasonable(I'm sitting on a dual core 2.3 ghz with a ram of 3 g so I find it hard to think anything's wrong with the hardware per sey), I also checked with system monitor and it is hardly working it would seem when running jack. Also Jack shows, in the Jack-ctrl window something like 1(249), 249 is increasing, don't know if this is normal or not since I'm new to the whole thing. Anyone care to take a guess?... so that I might go out and get oen or two beers at least this friday evening :)... //paco -- Ubuntu-Studio-users mailing list Ubuntu-Studio-users@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-studio-users

I initially voiced my thoughts about Internet Marketing in #ubuntu-marketing. This may be the best place to voice and further that discussion. I know that Ubuntu Marketing, as a team, helps with marketing materials and marketing in general, however I did not see much on Internet Marketing on the Wiki or as a response in the channel. I thought this would be the perfect team for the job. I was thinking we could further the scope of the team and extend our reach a bit to help teams with things such as: 1. Planning virtual launch parties (utilizing Twitter, for example); 2. Internet Marketing and/or Strategy (perhaps groups / forums / identity and messaging); or, 3. Even go as far to help with social marketing (and niche marketing) campaign planning to further leads (as far as LoCo teams go -- active memberships) and activity within groups. These are just three examples. I was wondering if the team has any thoughts or ideas. Also, has any action like this been taken in the past? It's usually more time investment and this is where we will be spending. Money may be the case for certain services such as: Google Adwords, printing flyers, and other such things. However, I think it is up to us, as Internet Marketers as you point out, to embrace technologies that do not rely on money. For example, social networking. Twitter is a good example. So are Facebook fan pages or even open source network/community projects. A Twitter Example: For the Jaunty release party we could provide teams with core examples of how to take their release parties up a notch. Instead of just having them in local bars and restaurants, why not connect the whole state or region using one simple Twitter hashtag? [Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down
Thierry, please extend your approach to not kill wpasupplicant on shutdown either. i think thats the problem that is left with your ppa packages here as the ones reporting that your ppa package doesnt help are using wireless. Once you have that please request a merge for the 0.7.1 branch and if you want also for the 0.7 branch in intrepid and I will take care that this gets into jaunty and after some baking to intrepid. ** Description changed: - I installed smbfs, and then put some entries into /etc/fstab, so they automount on startup. An example of this is here: + IMPORTANT: this bug has enough information; please don't post _anything_ + unless a developer asks for specific feedback! By posting to this bug + you only make it harder for a developer to spot the gem comments. Please + use the me too feature of launchpad to signal that you are affected + and would like to see this fixed. + + I installed smbfs, and then put some entries into /etc/fstab, so they automount on startup. An example of this is here: //ip address of nas box/share name /home/hamish/directory name cifs credentials=/home/hamish/.smbcredentials,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0 ** note the use of cifs in the lines above ** (The username and password are in the .smbcredentials file) On startup, for each entry in the /etc/fstab file, I get the following in dmesg: [ 70.495504] CIFS VFS: Error connecting to IPv4 socket. Aborting operation [ 70.495569] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -101 But the shares are mounted, and a nautilus session opens up (which is also annoying...) Also logging off with CIFS shares mounted in /etc/fstab, it sits with an error message: CIFS VFS: server not responding CIFS VFS: no response for cmd 50 mid this number changes And takes about 2 minutes to timeout. This also happened with Gutsy Should the timing of the mounting and dismounting be changed so that it works? It is related to the starting of network-manager and CIFS shares trying to connect on startup *before* the network is up, and dismounting the shares *after* network-manager is stopped. It's not a MIR process question, we have traditionally moved packages between components until the bitter end of a release (not that I *like* that, but it was just necessary). It's rather a question of who will maintain the package and whether we have the resources in the server team to support it.
