[Bug 501028] Re: Blocked updates still suggested for update

2009-12-29 Thread Sebastian Heinlein
Apt does use a different mechanism to hold packages. You have to use
pinning. The PackageKit backend of the 0.5 series uses the same pinning
information like Synaptic.

In the end we could parse the held packages from the status file and
skip them in the calculation of updates. But I am not sure how much
sense it makes to behave differently to apt itself.

 sda: xp
 sdb: debian sid

I use the testing version of grub, the one included in Sid, and marked
 as 1.98~20091222-1.
It is installed in the sda MBR but the boot still is extremely slow
and the disks thrash a lot before being able to start.

Some time ago I've installed the version 1.98~20091213-1
 experimental
and that one was the only one that resolved the issue. But next
 upgrade
reverted the situation and took the bug back again.

Yes because that upload was meant for experimental as you can see from
the version number and not unstable.
Was my mistake and that got reverted. Though actually the wrong sid
upload had 1.97+experimental.20091213-1 as version.
The 1.98~ is now used due to that.
Upstream merged this fix into the trunk branch after the latest sid
upload.
So for now you either have to use the Debian experimental package which
is also avaible via my PPA with the Ubuntu changes merged in or compile
it yourself.

Thank you for reporting this. Please answer a few questions and provide
more information.

Does this occur every time that you try to resume or just once in awhile?
Did this used to work before? If so, in which kernel release did it used to
work?
While trying to resume, does caps lock flash or anything similar to this?

Please pastebin the output of the following:

dmesg
cat /proc/cmdline
cat /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume

and include the links in your response.

chmod 755 altouchpad

7 to let the owner execute, read and write
5 to let the group execute and read
5 to let everyone else to execute and read

[Bug 501244] [NEW] gcompris does not recognize Hungarian language pack

2009-12-29 Thread Ákos Maróy
Public bug reported:

I just installed gcompris, and also the related Hungarian language pack
package, gcompris-sound-hu

but, when starting gcompris, and selecting Hungarian, while it displays
Hungarian text, gcompris will complain that it does not find hte
Hungarian sound, and thus is reverting to English.

IMHO it should recognize the Hungarian language package

This is on Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit

[Bug 454158] Re: Karmic Koala Beta does not install on Sony Vaio

2009-12-29 Thread nico
I tried again with a new CD, and this doesn't happen anymore.

Note this still happens with the first CD, which was checked before and after
burning and works well on other laptops. Really strange...
The first CD was burned the day Karmic was released, and the second one a week
after.
Was there any change after Karmic was released ??

Anyway, this is fixed for me.

[Bug 501246] [NEW] kde hangs with nfs directories mounted and wireless enabled

2009-12-29 Thread John Kounis
Public bug reported:

I have a couple of NFS directories mounted on /share/ via a wireless
connection. If I log out of GNOME and log back into GNOME, it works
fine. However, if I log out of GNOME and the wireless connection in KDE
is not set to Connect Automatically or if it has the incorrect key,
then when I log into KDE, the desktop hangs, presumably because it is
trying to access the NFS mounted directories without a working wireless
connection.

NOTE: These directories are mounted on /share (the /home directory is
local), so I don't know why KDE would access these directories anyway.

I found two workarounds:

(1) Unmount the directories in GNOME before logging into KDE. (NOTE: You
have to do this _before_ logging out. If you wait until KDE hangs and
then try to type Ctrl-Alt-F1 to unmount the directories, it won't work,
since the wireless network connection isn't there.

(2) Set the wireless connection to Connect Automatically.

This can be confusing, because if, for example, the WPA key changes, it
suddenly becomes impossible to log in to KDE. You have to unmount the
NFS directories first, then log into KDE, then select the wireless
connection and click Connect Automatically. Then you can mount the NFS
directories again.

In my case, I had reinstalled wireless drivers, which required me to re-
enter the WPA key, but I couldn't get a working plasma-desktop running
in order to set everything up.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10
KDE 4.3

I believe the correct behaviour should be either to run whatever process
is accessing the NFS mounted directories in parallel with the other
desktop processes, so it doesn't hang the desktop and prevent things
like the menu from working, or at least to display a message waiting
for network, so it's clear to the user why the system is hung.

[Bug 414560] Re: ath9k disassociates/reassociates a lot

2009-12-29 Thread Roy Lee
I've since switched to WICD which has been flawless for the last 18 hours.
To be fair, the problems might be due to NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant.
NM keeps wpa_supplicant constantly scanning, while WICD stops scanning once a
connection has been established.
If NM has an option to stop scanning once a connection has been established,
that would be better. It wouldn't make sense to have a connection established
and still keep scanning for new networks. Not many would want to have their
current connection broken just to switch to another connection with a X%
stronger signal.
I've really want to go back to NM though, as it has 3G Modem support which is
great.

[Bug 414560] Re: ath9k disassociates/reassociates a lot

2009-12-29 Thread notoriousdbp
Is it me or has there been a general regression in wireless performance
with the 2.6.31 kernel. I have noticed worse performance with the
zd1211rw driver on my desktop machine too and wondered if it was just a
coincidence that I have been unlucky in using two wireless drivers that
happen to have problems or whether there are wider issues with wireless
performance generally. This may not be the correct place to discuss it
but just thought I'd add my observation.

[Bug 501252] [NEW] Impossible to disable password after suspend-to-ram or -to-disk (regression)

2009-12-29 Thread ®om
Public bug reported:

To disable the password box after suspend-to-ram or suspend-to-disk, it
was possible to edit, using gconf-editor, the fields /apps/gnome-power-
manager/lock/{suspend,hibernate}, but it does not work anymore in karmic
(it still asks the password).

It worked in a previous version (I tested this feature in intrepid if I
remember).

[Bug 501071] Re: Rhythmbox fills metadatas without asking

2009-12-29 Thread Kensum T.
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox puts an unknow in every gap of the Metadata/ID3-Tag that is
supposed to be empty, if you import your musics to rhythmbox in example.
And if you change some gaps in this Metadata/ID3-Tag to repair/rename some
infos manuelly, the unknow in unchanged gaps even stays there.
+ I think the way how rhythmbox handle the metadatas is an extrafunction.

- Some might say it is useful, but for some others it's bothersome.
-
- There are people who wants a clean Metadata/ID3-Tag and don't like to
- fill the gaps inside and/or syncronize the Metadata with the internet
+ But there are people who wants a clean Metadata/ID3-Tag and don't like
+ to fill the gaps inside and/or syncronize the Metadata with the internet
  (due some reasons nobody knows...).

- My suggest is that rhythmbox should leave the metadata as it is and
- shouldn't fill the empty gaps with anything in addition.
-
- Furthermore, rhythmbox could just fill the textbox with another color to
- show the user i.e. the info 'Interpret' is REALLY empty, instead to
- change the Metadata without asking (like the problem says)
+ My idea is that rhythmbox should leave the metadata as it is and shouldn't
fill the empty gaps with anything in addition.
+ Or it could just has an option like fill gaps with 'unknow', which you can
switch off.

So it can prevent some confusing like why is there an 'unknow' in the
- gap of this metadata?
+ gap of this metadata?, maybe there are people, who think it's a bug!

[Bug 501257] [NEW] nm-applet asks for new passphrase on dhcp failure

2009-12-29 Thread Matt Daubney
Public bug reported:

If I connect to a wireless network with a broken dhcp server, when nm fails to
get an address, nm-applet asks for a new passphrase even though its a dhcp
error not an authentication error.
This should give an error stating that it failed to get an ip address from dhcp
rather than asking for a new passphrase.

[Bug 501261] [NEW] No video, only sound, in totem after upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10

2009-12-29 Thread olof
Public bug reported:

1) Current release : 9.10

2) apt-cache policy totem
totem:
  Installed: 2.28.2-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 2.28.2-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 2.28.2-0ubuntu3 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.28.1-0ubuntu4 0
500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

3) Showing pictures in rapid succession when playing a video
4) Blank screen. Only sound

I made an upgrade, not a clean install, from 9.04 to 9.10. After that,
totem will not show pictures when playing video. It plays sound
correctly though. This seems to be independent of video format.
Identical behaviour for mpg, avi and wmv.

The funny thing is that gxine works correctly. And if I first start
gxine and then totem, everything is fine! But I shouldn't have to have
gxine running in the background to be able to use totem.

[Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA

2009-12-29 Thread falk
Hi,

I installed a completely new ubuntu 9.10 Karmic and followed the advice
of #61 Woko. But the dual view does not work. X can not find any device
and uses always the failsafe config of xorg.conf.

do you guys have any advice? many thanks in advance.

(PS.: before all of this, I have had ubuntu 9.04, later updated to 9.10 and
changed the graiph driver patched by andi. the dual view has worked. but the
update to 9.10 has raised more other problems, so I formatted all and did above
- a new installation of 9.10 ).

[Bug 114375] Re: [needs-packaging] LanguageTool, a grammar checker for OpenOffice.org

2009-12-29 Thread Pander
Please, make LanguageTool.jar directly available by the installation process of
this package. Language Tool can be used as a stand alone application as can be
seen here:
  http://www.languagetool.org/usage/
The OXT fie from OpenOffice needs to be unzipped somewhere in order to offer
this. Perhaps /usr/share/languagetool would be a proper location. Note that
deinstalling or upgrading the OXT will have to be reflected in the unzipped
version.

Also /usr/bin or /usr/sbin should offer a shell script called languagetool that
will call
  java -jar /usr/share/languagetool/LanguageTool.jar
with all arguments provieded to the shell script.

Makeing the JAR available in the proposed way will allow users to access
the functionality directly from the command line. This will offer
LanguageTool functionality also outside of OpenOffice.

2009-12-29 Thread f3a97
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,
I noticed that karmic's nautilus has a weird behaviour with USB storage.

Basically:

1) plug a USB storage device into your USB port
2) after a while, nautilus pops up showing the content of the device and the
device itself is shown on nautlius left pane (resources)
3) unmount the drive, clicking on the eject button

After this step, the USB device disappear from the nautilus resources,
which I might assume is a correct behaviour.

If you go to the computer section, you still see it! If you click on it,
nothing happens. This is very misleading, because the user see the USB
device but cannot access it.

If you remove the USB device from the USB port, it actually disappear
from the Computer section too.

The expected behaviour IMHO should be that:

- either the USB device is not shown anywhere, after the eject
- or the USB device remains visible into the Computer view (as currently
happens), but if the user clicks on it, the device gets mounted again

Thanks!

[Bug 479179] Re: mouse left and right click events are disabled in gnome session after changing to sugar session

2009-12-29 Thread Tomeu Vizoso
Question still remains. Why does Sugar change this setting?

Looks like the compiz gconf backend is listening for changes in metacity
key bindings and changing its own keybindings accordingly. This is
because integration with GNOME is activated.
