I've since switched to WICD which has been flawless for the last 18 hours. To be fair, the problems might be due to NetworkManager or wpa_supplicant. NM keeps wpa_supplicant constantly scanning, while WICD stops scanning once a connection has been established. If NM has an option to stop scanning once a connection has been established, that would be better. It wouldn't make sense to have a connection established and still keep scanning for new networks. Not many would want to have their current connection broken just to switch to another connection with a X% stronger signal. I've really want to go back to NM though, as it has 3G Modem support which is great.
