Hi! My organization compulsion trumped my dislike of the wiki for a moment, because I couldn't stand seeing: Artwork/Specs/Edubuntu-natty-wallpaper Artwork/Specs/Request-1 Artwork/Specs/Request-2 Artwork/Specs/Request-3 Artwork/Specs/Request-4 Artwork/Specs/Request-5 Artwork/Specs/Request-6 Artwork/Specs/Request-7 Artwork/Specs/_Template on http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs So I renamed all the spec pages to a _Name scheme and introduced a separation between Open/Frozen/Closed on the Specs page. John: because of this, automatic listing can't be used anymore. Something is wrong with the markup now, thanks to your table acrobatics and my total lack of patience in trying to understand what's going on. It would be kind of you to see if you can fix it. I joined the 2 Edubuntu Wallpaper pages to http://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/0001_Edubuntu_Natty_Wallpaper and might have overlooked some detail. Much of what I said regarding Xubuntu applies here, too. John: what exactly is the purpose of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Specs/0006_LibreOffice_Artwork ? I maintain that a specification for LO artwork belongs to the LO project, has to live in their wiki and be discussed on their lists. Hence that page should at least be moved to Closed, if not deleted. Sergey, This is great. There is certainly no reason why we can't do our part to reduce paper cuts. Ivanka blogged about it http://design.canonical.com/2010/11/paper-cuts-need-you/ here . Thoughts on the best approach? John Rebranding will require tweaks to the engine, so I guess I will figure out what exactly we need, then contact Frank Lichtenheld and ask him if he can do it. I can already say that we'll need to add header and footer, remove from breadcrumbs and so on. I guess this website falls into Project category in the header, but guesses aren't reliable enough, whom can I ask about this? The design challenges we must face are: 1. There are no guidelines for sidebars and the package info pages use them (e.g. see http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo), we'll have to either make up some or get rid of the sidebar (and I prefer the latter). 2. Quick search has a dropdown list in which one can choose the area to search (package names, descriptions, package contents etc.), and it's not clear how to migrate this to the new quick search box design. Same for all options link. 3. On the main page we need to present 3 equally important alternatives clearly. I have failed to do that for another website in the past. Any ideas? 4. Less notable things like section navigation in top right corner, which I can't recall now. I'll make some mockups in code as soon as the unified Ubuntu CSS is released (or maybe even before that if I have time). P.S. http://fridge.ubuntu.com/ also needs rebranding and a new logo, I suppose. Faced with dates like 12/02/2011 I always have to wonder if it's day/month/year or month/day/year. We should standardize on one date format for the wiki. I propose ISO 8601, as it was created just for this reason. It's also great for sorting. I have has no problems with my Canon Powershot 460 or my wife's Nikon Coolpix 3200 (both quite old cameras now). The thing I'm not so sure of is the QuickTime Motion JPEG used for HD movies. In my experience, as a minimum, if a camera has a USB port, you can connect it to an Ubuntu machine with the SD card inside, and the camera will be mounted as an external drive. Mostly they will mount and your photo-manager software (F-Spot, Shotwell, etc) will start up automatically, ready to import the files. But you can always take the SD card out, and stick it in a card reader, where it will mount as an external mass storage device. AFAIK, the TZ8 uses JPEG for image files (and MPEG? for video). Ted, The Panasonic TZ8 can either be connected to the computer with the USB lead provided or you can insert the SD card in a card reader. In both cases, Ubuntu will mount it as an external drive. You can then import your images using your favourite photo manager. What you will not be able to do under Linux is run the provided software that accompanies the camera. I suspect that it would run in a virtual Windows machine under Virtualbox or another similar package although I haven't bothered to try it. It almost certainly will not run in Wine. Our local branch of Jessops was very happy for me to go in with my netbook and try the Canon EOS that my sister was going to buy. I did a bit of research on the Canon web page and on the Ubuntu forums, and found out that it should work well provided I installed gphoto. Canon EOS range do not mount as a mass storage device, instead they use a standard that gphoto can work with. I got the impression that gphoto provides an interface for just about all types of camera. Going in to Jessops with my laptop proved this out. In my experience, most professional / serious amateur photographers remove their SD/CF cards from their cameras and use a card reader to transfer the images to storage devices (often as part of a work flow involving a digital asset management application such as Digikam). It's common for photographers to store images on relatively small SD/CF cards (e.g. 4Gb), and use several of them during a shoot or trip. (Avoids eggs in one basket.) On the three occasions in the last four years I have purchased a camera from a high street store I made a show of taking along a laptop and ran from a live CD in the store and asked first to see if it was recognised. On one occasion, since I obviously had a very honest face (and a credit card handy) the store manager let me run a shop display machine with a live usb sick with Ubuntu to test the camera. I used canon cameras, and they were recognised although I think a particular transfer mode had to be chosen. In one case it was not easily recognised - maybe the shop guy did not know which menu to use, anyway I actually did not buy that canon model for that reason, I bought a slightly earlier model, which did work for me ok. I thought it was worth it to get information and to make a point However, back at the ranch, I never conect the camera at all, I always simply remove the SD cards and use a card reader. Searching in open windows
Hi all, I am not quite sure if this is the way to express my concern. I have met a lot of people who complains that they have a lot of windows open at a time and find it difficult to navigate among them. ALT+TAB is a great way, but you need a linear search (and reading all of them) there. One suggestion I had was to use some plugin of compiz that wroks with show all open windows and then searching with auto-complete search box. Compiz is not a solution anyway. My query is, is there any application (light enough) like gnome-do that does it properly? If there is not is it advisable that one should try to make one? Thanks, -- Ratul Saha. CouchDB 1.0 SRU to 10.04 LTS
Hi all! Because of scaling and security improvements, the Ubuntu One server-side CouchDB servers are running CouchDB 1.0, which is the version in Ubuntu 10.10, rather than the 0.10 that is in 10.04 LTS. While this upgrade enabled replication to scale to the number of users we have and allowed us to open the service to users in 10.10, the replication protocol changed between the two versions, and thus users on 10.04 are currently unable to synchronize their Couch databases using the Ubuntu One service. We are asking for an exception to the LTS update rules to update the couchdb package to 1.0. We have done some testing of the upgrade at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/CouchDBSRU but there is the concern that people are using CouchDB in 10.04 via something other than desktopcouch, and that the upgrade could potentially break these applications. fglrx ATI driver and rt kernel how to?
I've been using the ATI propietary driver in my Lucid 10.04 with 2.6.31-11-rt kernel. Quite stable, but difficult and a lot of tweaking to install it. After restore my system to a previous snapshot (where fglrx was working stable), now fglrx is deconfigured once again. From a previous post I realized that there is an fglrx patch from Bogani's PPA. I have the repo already updated (I'm working with his rt kernel), but sudo apt-get install fglrx-installer doesn't found any package. May be I miss something... if this patch is removed from Lucy, can I use this patch from another release (I tried)? is it true that this patch works for lowlatency kernel and not for the rt kernel? Looking for an easy and stable way to working with the ATI driver, thanks. Abogani will need to confirm this, but I don't think the fglrx patch for the Lucid -realtime kernel works yet. If you need to use fglrx and are using Lucid, I'd recommend using the -rt kernel that is in the official Ubuntu repos. i believe the theory is that the graphics driver you are using is causing the issue with the fan. i have a VIA graphics chip that does this, and i have seen it with other hardware as well. what graphics chip do you have? and what driver are you using? maybe you could try using the vesa driver as a test.. yeah, you wont get an error more than likely. on the VIA chip i was using, that was just the best drivers available at the time for that chip under linux. no errors, just lots of heat and fans. Faça o seguinte: Exclua esta impressora que você instalou;clique no botão adicionar;em select device, clique em LPT #1;não instale como generic, vá até Epson;Procure por Dot Matrix:Nesta aba aparecerão 4 drivers, comece instalando o primeiro e finalize a instalação. Por exemplo, eu com um Core2Duo não conseguia rodar o Eclipse e a maquina
virtual juntos (não o eclipse na maquina virtual). E depois só ligando o
eclipse começava a travar.
Esse computador que travou eu uso no trabalho (então não fico instalando
muitas coisas), o eclipse estava com plugin do maven e do svn.
A minha maquina tem 2G de memória e 180 de HD.
Inicialmente achei que era problema de HW. Passei pro pessoal de suporte
e
não acharam nada. e enquanto isso um colega meu com a mesma distro do
ubuntu
começou a ter o mesmo problema. O computador começa travar com pequenas
ações.
Será possível ser alguma atualização padrão (repositorio do apt) da
distro
?
Já receberam algum caso assim ?
oq uso basicamente é apache, jboss e maven.

Olas! Bem, tive certos problemas e fiz uma loucura. Tenho o XP instalado junto com o UB 10.1 e algumas coisas sumiram etc. Bem resolvi apagar pelo GParted TUDO do UB. Porém ao reiniciar parou dando erro no GRUB. Entrei pelo Live CD e comecei a História. Meses atrás o Nethel me auxiliou com algumas informações e fui seguindo. Ou seja, criei uma partição com EXT4, deixei 2GB para criar a LINUX-SWAP. Só que ao criar a EXT4 existe uma caixa de texto para colocar algo e o Nethel me disse para inserir uma / e ao criar a LINUX-SWAP, deixei em branco, pois a ajuda do Nethel acabava por ali e ele me ajudou pelo telefone, na época. Não lembrava mais o que tinha que colocar. Deixei em branco. Instalou tudo direitinho, etc. Só que, agora, no menu Locais, aparece o floppy0, não aparecia antes e não tenho driver para disquete. Ao clicar em Computador aparece: Disco rígido de 500 GB: / Disco rígido de 500 GB: Sistema de arquivos de 213 GB Drive de Disquete: Unidade de Disquete Unidade CD/DVD Sistema de arquivos Alguém poderia me dizer se fiz da maneira correta, ou se vacilei? Vamos por partes: Funciona assim: Na formatação manual, você deve indicar ao sistema o que deve ser instalado em determinada partição. Se você não fizer esta indicação, não haverá sucesso na instalação. A / ao qual você se refere é o diretório raiz do sistema. Ele precisa ser montado em uma destas partições. Ao selecionar este, você indica ao Gparted que o diretório raiz será montado naquela partição. Detalhe: outros diretórios podem ser montados em outras partições, tipo: quando tenho espaço, sempre particiono o disco da seguinte maneira: sda1 -- / --80 gb sda2 -- swap -- aqui sempre dimensiono com o dobro da memoria RAM, tipo: 2 GB de RAM = 4 GB de swap sda3 -- /home -- com o restante do disco, assim tudo que os usuarios do computador gravarem em suas pastas pessoais não são perdidos se for necessário reinstalar o sistema ou atualizar ele. Quanto ao floppy0, ele está aparecendo ae porque no BIOS do seu computador está configurado como se o floppy disk estivesse instalado. Entre no setup do seu BIOS e coloque em Disable a opção para o drive de disquete. Boa tarde a todos, Estou procurando um software para testar a performance da minha rede. Minha rede tem computadores conectados em até 3 níveis de routers e/ou hub e nesses computadores estou percebendo uma lentidão que não deveria acontecer portanto preciso diagnosticar o motivo disso. [Ubuntu-BR] Dados sendo corrompidos
olá a todos, Eu tenho um Servidor com Ubuntu Desktop instalado, esse servidor funciona com DATASERVER, e utilizo para isso SAMBA e Kerberos. em uma partição EXT4, o problema é que os dados que estão sendo gravados estão sendo corrompidos. depois de salvar no servidor eles não funcionam mais. No inicio isso ocorria com imagens, arquivos de corel e powerpoint, agora esta ocorrendo com arquivos texto também. alguem tem alguma ideia. o Computador é um I7 com 4 gigas de ram com placa mãe intel não lembro o modelo agora. ela usa a placa de rede onborad 10/100, possui um disco rigido sansung de 1 tera e são 67 computadores gravando arquivos nele. ps.: se precisarem de mais informações sobre a maquina, o sistema o a forma que ele foi configurado porfavor é só perguntar. um abraço a todos. -- André Ferreira Ubuntueiro de Plantão http://revolucaolinux.blogspot.com --- avast! [Ubuntu-BR] WPA2 Enterprise no 10.10
Olá pessoas, Me pediram ajuda em algo que nunca usei e não tenho como testar. Na universidade de Maringá (UEM) estão usando wifi com WPA2 Enterprise. Meu amigo disse que no 10.10 não entra de jeito nenhum e que ele mesmo teve que voltar ao 10.04 para funcionar (e vários pularam pro windão). Disse ele que já cavucou o google, que já testou o wicd, e que só pediu ajuda porque a coisa tá preta. O WPA2 Personal rola, o lance é no enterprise. Alguém de vocês já usou ou sabe de algo? Prezado André, já tive um problema em meu desktop parecido com o teu. Até descobrir que aquelas falhas nas gravações que eram feitas no HD eram por problemas decorrentes de mau funcionamento da placa-mãe (que tinha apenas um ano de uso) foram dias de angústia e quebração de cabeça. Mas consegui, com sucesso, isolar e resolver o problema. Talvez te ajude... В идеале, машины должны быть максимально идентичными - так, чтобы ни одна из них не была слабым звеном во всей группе, это приводит к рассинхронизации и увеличению времени параллельного вычисления. В сети (которой соединены) также должна быть однородность, ведь в большинстве случаев параллельные вычисления полагаются на постоянные соединения между всеми узлами кластера. и что будет если один из хостов умрет? на втором будут работать виртуалки первого? Да конечно, но человек их только начал изучать, судя по вопросам, и ему есть смысл обратить внимание не только на Promox, а изучить вопрос кластера в целом, разобраться. для объединения серверов в кластеры - железо должно быть одинаковое или нет? В частности я отвечал вот на этот вопрос, и тут не важно Proxmox, Rocks, IBM Lotus Domino или еще чего, принцип взаимодействия станций или серверов в кластере един, а соответственно желательно подобрать максимально идентичные по компонентам станции.
