Are you thinking of ?
Yea, It lists both unapproved (desaturated Ubuntu logo) and
approved(Ubuntu logo) teams there.

Btw, we are not an approved team either!
So, going to the council and telling them that another unapproved team
should not exist is weird.. ;p

The earlier mentioned teams are not the only Indian local teams.
There are other Tamil teams and a Delhi team too.
And the Tamil teams have done a lot of translations work, FOSS/Ubuntu
awareness during Local events, they recently went for individual LoCo
approval and but they werent approved (I forgot why exactly, I believe
they dint have their events documented clearly or something).

Nope not that Alan either, maybe you are thinking of Laura Czajkowski ?

Maybe the other teams could get approved before us? ;)

IMO, we could spend time actually focusing on doing LoCo work rather
than other teams.
We could, however, contact them and tell them to join us.

Neither Allan Pope nor Jorge Castro can help with that.
Allan as a CC member could probably *comment* somewhere about it. But he
really has no jurisdiction over this..

*Anyone* can form teams.

But, why is this "issue" even being considered for Community Council?

I thought that these teams were listed down as LoCo in the list of
LoCos. I was asking to get it removed if they were present there.

I don't remember the name who is responsible for LoCo- AlanBell or
someone else.

Yes, creating millions of teams is allowed in Launchpad. Not an
issue, but randomly creating and listing them down in the list
of LoCos is what I was saying was bad..

Can't we just ask the team owner ?

We can ask just the team owner to close the team, team owner's have the
delete option from the team page :

So should we go ahead and get them removed? It can be done. Just want
to know if everyone is fine with it. We can ask popey or jcastro and
they can get it done directly or through someone.

Having 5 different teams with none of them working gives a bad
impression. Atleast we can have redirection set.

[ubuntu-in] Invitation for OSSCamp Lucknow

2011-03-10 Thread Abhinav Upadhyay
Hello to all,

I wanted to inform you about about OSSCamp Lucknow.

We are organizing OSSCamp on 26th and 27th of March in Lucknow. OSSCamps (
http://osscamp.in) are unconferences on open source projects and initiatives
where people meet and discuss about various open source tools, technologies
and projects. Events like these are a great source of active learning and
sharing our experience and knowledge with others.

People form all over India are coming to join us for OSScamp, and I would
like to invite the awesome people from the Ubuntu Indian Team as well. It
would be our great pleasure to learn more about Ubuntu, how does it's
development goes, how to contribute to the Ubuntu Community, how can we get
started using it and hacking it.

I am expecting that you people will join and support us in great numbers and
share your knowledge with us by means of some excellent sessions. I believe
that, this will be a great platform for the Ubuntu India Team, as I am sure,
a large number of people will be interested in joining it after learning
more about it.

I hope to hear a positive reply from the Ubuntu India Team. If you are
interested in coming then please register on our website:

This is what I answered to. This question gave an idea that you wanted to
get firefox4 and thunderbird. There was little in there that gave an idea
that you were looking to integrate both. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
:)

Just curious, what kind of integration are you looking for? Like a browser
tab in thunderbird itself when clicking on an external link in email? Just
asking because I have rarely used any MUA except for mutt.

Absolutely! I don't know if anything in my original post gave the idea of
splitting up, but my only intention with this was to bring more people to
our ongoing efforts in the Indian LoCo [0]. Actually I myself was a bit
annoyed by the fact that there were quite a few other India related groups
in launchpad which rarely communicate/co-ordinate with us. When the hands
are few, it is always a good idea to work together. My intention was not to
create 'yet another group' but to give incentive to the people to come to
this existing group. As I mentioned before, there are 1179 direct members
in our launchpad team and hundreds subscribed to the mailing list, but only
a handful of them are actively involved in team activities.

But as others have rightly pointed out, the resources required for this
kind of effort would outweigh its benefits. As an afterthought, I think it
would also cause a sort-of-alienation among those who are not approved as
members.
