[Bug 1925766] [NEW] extensions disabled after upgrade
Public bug reported: I updated yesterday (I think), and after a reboot today all extensions were disabled. I went to the gnome-shell extensions website, ticked to enable my extension and it toggled on. The extensions did not seem to work. I reloaded the page and they are off again. I clicked enabled, still nothing. Reload page and all are off. I check logs in journalctl and could see nothing relevant. Eventually a bit of searching suggests enabling via gnome-shell-tweaks, so I open that up and they're all unticked, and disabled (can't be ticked). I realised there's a global "enable extensions" tickbox which has been unticked. Enabling this fixes everything. I have had to do this in the past, several months back as I had forgotten until now. Something is disabling this on upgrade and it is not obvious from the extensions web-page that they have been disabled. Ideally they should not be disabled at all, but if they are at least there should be some more obvious feedback after upgrade and on the extensions website ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: gnome-shell 3.36.7-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-72.80-generic 5.4.101 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-72-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.16 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Apr 23 10:24:59 2021 DisplayManager: gdm3 InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-07-22 (640 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" - Release amd64 (20190416) RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.36.7+git20201123-0.20.04.1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to focal on 2020-05-15 (342 days ago) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1925766 Title: extensions disabled after upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1925766/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1753271] Re: intermittent static during audio playback
Looks like it may have been hardware related - as part of further debugging both the usb speaker was completely unplugged, and the pc and monitor were powered off at the wall - after that playback seems to be fine ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1753271 Title: intermittent static during audio playback To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/1753271/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1753271] [NEW] intermittent static during audio playback
Public bug reported: Recently (since yesterday), during audio playback ("Videos" app, Chrome (google music)) the audio will go from perfectly clear to complete static white noise. This usually starts about 5 seconds into playback and can last from about 10 to 40 seconds before returning to normal. Playing with volume levels in the ubuntu audio mixer it sounds like the audio has been auto-amplified and that is clipping and causing static, but that's just a guess. I've tried playing with a few pulse options to change things but can't find anything which makes it any better. I'm using analogue output on a usb speaker (dell soundbar), and have not had problems since buying it or the rest of the pc, this seems to have occurred fairly recently. [Bug 1701726] [NEW] unattended upgrades removing kerberos and breaking system
Public bug reported: Ok, so this may not be a bug specifically in unattended-upgrades, but I can't determine where else it would be. Having my server broken by unattended upgrades removing the primary login system (kerberos) once might be considered unlucky, or perhaps a typo - but now that it has happened twice it looks like a bug. The problem seems to be that several krb related packages were removed, along with puppet packages which we use to help maintain the system. The result was all remote logins (ssh/http/smtp/imap/etc) were broken and serial console had to be used to recover the sysem Pulling from logs from today: ```Start-Date: 2017-06-30 15:22:20 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Upgrade: libisccfg140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), bind9-host:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), dnsutils:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), libisc160:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), bind9utils:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), liblwres141:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), bind9:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), libdns162:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), libisccc140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7), libbind9-140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.7) Remove: ubuntu-standard:amd64 (1.361), host:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.6), librarian-puppet:amd64 (2.2.1-2), libapache2-mod-auth-kerb:amd64 (5.4-2.2), krb5-admin-server:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), krb5-user:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), libpam-krb5:amd64 (4.7-2), facter:amd64 (2.4.6-1), krb5-kdc:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), krb5-config:amd64 (2.3), puppet:amd64 (3.8.5-2ubuntu0.1), puppet-common:amd64 (3.8.5-2ubuntu0.1) End-Date: 2017-06-30 15:22:27 Start-Date: 2017-06-30 15:22:32 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Remove: libaugeas0:amd64 (1.4.0-0ubuntu1), libverto-libevent1:amd64 (0.2.4-2.1ubuntu2), virt-what:amd64 (1.14-1), libkadm5clnt-mit9:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), javascript-common:amd64 (11), ruby-multipart-post:amd64 (1.2.0-2), ruby2.3:amd64 (2.3.1-2~16.04), ruby-safe-yaml:amd64 (1.0.4-1), rake:amd64 (10.5.0-2), ruby-net-telnet:amd64 (0.1.1-2), ruby-thor:amd64 (0.19.1-2), ruby-librarian:amd64 (0.6.3-1), ruby-highline:amd64 (1.7.2-1), augeas-lenses:amd64 (1.4.0-0ubuntu1), ruby-minitar:amd64 (0.5.4-3), libkdb5-8:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), libjs-jquery:amd64 (1.11.3+dfsg-4), ruby-json:amd64 (1.8.3-1build4), ruby-augeas:amd64 (1:0.5.0-3build4), ruby-shadow:amd64 (2.4.1-1build4), ruby-minitest:amd64 (5.8.4-2), hiera:amd64 (2.0.0-2), ruby-deep-merge:amd64 (1.0.1+gitf9df6fdb-1), libruby2.3:amd64 (2.3.1-2~16.04), ruby-selinux:amd64 (2.4-3build2), ruby:amd64 (1:2.3.0+1), libgssrpc4:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), libverto1:amd64 (0.2.4-2.1ubuntu2), ruby-rsync:amd64 (1.0.9-1), ruby-faraday-m iddleware:amd64 (0.10.0-1), ruby-power-assert:amd64 (0.2.7-1), unzip:amd64 (6.0-20ubuntu1), zip:amd64 (3.0-11), ruby-semantic-puppet:amd64 (0.1.1-1), ruby-rgen:amd64 (0.7.0-2), rubygems-integration:amd64 (1.10), fonts-lato:amd64 (2.0-1), ruby-faraday:amd64 (0.9.2-3), ruby-nokogiri:amd64 (1.6.7.2-3build1), libkadm5srv-mit9:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5ubuntu2), ruby-test-unit:amd64 (3.1.7-2), libyaml-0-2:amd64 (0.1.6-3), ruby-puppet-forge:amd64 (2.1.3-1), ruby-did-you-mean:amd64 (1.0.0-2) End-Date: 2017-06-30 15:22:34 ``` And the pervious time it failed in January this year: ```Start-Date: 2017-01-13 02:35:06 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Install: host:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4, automatic) Upgrade: libisccfg140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), bind9-host:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), dnsutils:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), libisc160:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), bind9utils:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), liblwres141:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), bind9:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), libdns162:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), libisccc140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4), libbind9-140:amd64 (1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.3, 1:9.10.3.dfsg.P4-8ubuntu1.4) Remove: ubuntu-standard:amd64 (1.361), librarian-puppet:amd64 (2.2.1-2), libapache2-mod-auth-kerb:amd64 (5.4-2.2), krb5-admin-server:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5), krb5-user:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5), libpam-krb5:amd64 (4.7-2), facter:amd64 (2.4.6-1), krb5-kdc:amd64 (1.13.2+dfsg-5), krb5-config:amd64 (2.3), puppet:amd64 (3.8.5-2), puppet-common:amd64 (3.8.5-2) End-Date: 2017-01-13 02:35:13``` After the first failure in January the main
[Bug 1655842] Re: "Out of memory" errors after upgrade to 4.4.0-59
If this kernel is not going to hit -updates shortly (i.e. days), can something be done to pull or downgrade the broken kernel? [Bug 1589397] [NEW] kernel panic connecting display port to Dell Latitude E7470
Public bug reported: Connecting an external Display Port screen wither via the dell E-Port plus or directly via the miniDP causes a kernel panic. The crash is not always immediate, if the internal screen is disabled when docked, then the external screen may work, though undocking and docking a second time usually crashes it. [Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
mpt, that doesn't seem to me a reason why we can't have a drop down area for legacy apps. Yes their behaviour will be unpredictable for Ubuntu but it would still work for legacy apps. I run a corporate repository for 6000 users and we are having to fix each unity version so our corporate apps work, or we have to move to RedHat. The corporate owners have no interest in fixing the apps for Ubuntu, and won't give out source code, so they won't be updated unless they move to a new library which does it for them (which is equally unlikely) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974480 Title: Notification area whitelist is obsolete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/974480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1319283] [NEW] unity screensaver lockup/crash
Public bug reported: I have seen several instances where resuming from suspend results in a slightly corrupted unity screensaver/lockscreen. Login is impossible. [Bug 1213035] Re: 8086:1502 [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] e1000e module sometimes prevents suspend to ram
Hi Christopher @penalvch, thanks for the update. Given the intermittent nature of the bug (not every suspend is prevented from succeeding) it is going to be incredibly difficult for me to reproduce on a livecd. Has anything changed in this driver that makes you think it will be better for me? It hasn't changed between raring and saucy. Is there a possibility of trying only a newer kernel from trusty perhaps, then I could use it for a week as normal and see if the issue still presents itself? Perhaps there is some debug output I could gather that might point to a cause? This might help determine if undocking is involved as Tim mentions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1213035 Title: 8086:1502 [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] e1000e module sometimes prevents suspend to ram To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1213035/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1213035] Re: e1000e module sometimes prevents suspend to ram
For reference I tried booting the latest mainline kernel, and apart from screwing up unity (see bug 1215828) it suspended once, then failed to resume. [Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete
Mark, I full appreciate your position and agree with direction, but you need to understand that this change would push nearly all enterprise users back to RedHat or even to things like Mint. 2009 is recent in enterprise terms, so spare a thought for those apps which have yet to be revisited for ubuntu updates (let alone those unlikely to have ubuntu-specific coding performed). What is needed here is a cross-platform approach to allowing this sort of notification, so that developers aren't coding systray for windows, notification area for rhel, and new notifications for ubuntu. If you aren't building that, then you are walling off developers that aren't willing to spend time coding for a specific distribution, and you will find most of those will walk away... I realise that is a hard goal to achieve, but don't make the mistake of forcing a new world without allowing the old to exist sensibly - Users won't appreciate it either, and Unity is having enough problems with rejection as it is already. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/974480 Title: Notification area whitelist is obsolete To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/974480/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 962947] Re: CPU scaled back to very slow speed, cannot increase speed
The plot thickens... I turned of the computer for a few minutes this morning (it is normally always on), and when it came back up the CPU now shows a full speed range. [Bug 962102] Re: myunity reports unity is in 2d mode when it isn't
Ok, so I think it is something rather odd on my system. Rebooting produces a similar result, but I do get and X crash (possibly in the nvidia driver) and a unity crash on logging in. both recover and let me continue, but I think it is dropping me down to a partial unity-2d interface. I have just disabled acpi with acpi=off on my grub options to work around another issue where my cpu was stuck at 800mhz scaling. This time, I no longer got crashes on login, and myunity now sees me as not being 2d. ps also no longer shows any unity-2d processes. ps -ef|grep meta\|unity\|compiz anton 4533 4455 15 08:13 ?00:00:09 compiz anton 4762 1 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-metadata anton 4824 1 4 08:14 ?00:00:01 /usr/lib/unity/unity-panel-service anton 4935 4533 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /bin/sh -c /usr/bin/compiz-decorator anton 4969 1 1 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/unity-lens-applications/unity-applications-daemon anton 4971 1 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/unity-lens-files/unity-files-daemon anton 4974 1 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/unity-lens-video/unity-lens-video anton 4975 1 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/lib/unity-lens-music/unity-music-daemon anton 5070 1 0 08:14 ?00:00:00 /usr/bin/python /usr/lib/unity-scope-video-remote/unity-scope-video-remote anton 5724 5022 0 08:14 pts/000:00:00 grep --color=auto meta\|unity\|compiz I am closing the bug as invalid. ** Changed in: myunity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/962102 Title: myunity reports unity is in 2d mode when it isn't To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/myunity/+bug/962102/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 962947] [NEW] CPU scaled back to very slow speed, cannot increase speed
Public bug reported: It appears that my 1.86GHz Intel Core2 CPU is only running at 700Mhz. The attached files show (in /proc/cpu) that the cpu is actually a 1.86Ghz, but cpufreq only lets me set a maximum of 700mhz. I am running precise amd64 on a 3.2.0-20-generic kernel, though the same was seen linux-image-3.2.0-19-generic as well I believe. The system is a Lenovo ThinkCentre 8810-91G, and the bios is the latest one available. The bios doesn't show any cpu limiting options or restrictions, and shows the cpus as the expected 1.86Mhz (though I think that is just model information rather than the current clock speed). I cannot see any overclocking options in the bios. $cpufreq-info cpufrequtils 007: cpufreq-info (C) Dominik Brodowski 2004-2009 Report errors and bugs to cpuf...@vger.kernel.org, please. analyzing CPU 0: driver: acpi-cpufreq CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0 1 CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0 maximum transition latency: 10.0 us. hardware limits: 600 MHz - 700 MHz available frequency steps: 700 MHz, 600 MHz available cpufreq governors: conservative, ondemand, userspace, powersave, performance current policy: frequency should be within 600 MHz and 700 MHz. It isn't always too large, sometimes it is possible to resize it so that it is quite small, but then on a later song it resizes itself (presumably to fit new content) and becomes too large, and can't be made smaller again. [Bug 839328] Re: some status icons disappear when moving the cursor to the top status bar
aptitude full-upgrade and the icons have disappeared - xchat now uses the unity launcher bar on the side to notify the user of something, rather than at the top. [Bug 839328] [NEW] some status icons disappear when moving the cursor to the top status bar
Public bug reported: I have several status icons on the top bar, which disappear if I move my cursor to the status bar and back out again. They then reappear if I move the cursor back to the top and away again. It does not seem to relate to the title of my application showing in the top bar, nor the applications menus appearing in the top bar. Both of these can show fine at the same time as the icons. It really is strange, but if I move the mouse to the top and back down they disappear, repeating this with the mouse makes the icons reappear. The first icon in the attached screenshot, is an internal check tool we use at my work. The second is xchat. The third is empathy. I can interact with the icons if they are showing, but when they disappear there are no actions available on the space where they were. The versions of xchat and empathy are as follows empathy 3.1.5-1ubuntu1 xchat2.8.8-3ubuntu6 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: unity 4.8.0-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-8.11-generic 3.0.1 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-8-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] Date: Fri Sep 2 07:52:23 2011 InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Alpha amd64 (20100701) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE= PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/839328 Title: some status icons disappear when moving the cursor to the top status bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/839328/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please respond with venue suggestions and feel free to start planning what to do for the rest of your day off, I heard that some kids that went to Edinburgh Uni are taking advantage of the Natty bank holiday to get hitched in Westminster, but you could do anything you like.
