[Bug 674293] Re: VMware Kernel Panic Unable to mount root fs after Kernel Upgrade

I have done some more testing and after downgrading the kernel to 2.6.32-24-server #43 and everything works fine. I have tried the blacklisting of sonypi using the above instructions, but it still does not work. I am now running Hardy Heron on this machine as well. I do have a workaround solution in place. I discovered that I can run smartdimmer to change brightness without needing to use sudo. I used gconf-editor to add keybindings to metacity for Alt+F5 and ALT+F6. This allows me to change the brightness from my keyboard using something similar to the Fn method. I went ahead and downloaded the official Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 Live CD from http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/ and it didn't seem to recognize the Fn+F5 keypress either.
