[Bug 511183] [NEW] It should be possible to define the timestamp format in logs

2010-01-22 Thread Damien Clauzel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eggdrop

Timestamp format in logs is hard coded inside eggdrop.h, but that
should be done in the configuration file (timestamp-format ?)

eggdrop.h

44 * Set the following to the timestamp for the logfile entries.
45 * Popular times might be [%H:%M] (hour, min), or [%H:%M:%S] (hour,
min, sec)
46 * Read `man strftime' for more formatting options. Keep it below 32 chars.

 48 #define LOG_TS [%H:%M]

[Bug 465349] Re: /etc/gdm/Xsession does not call /etc/X11/Xsession

2009-12-08 Thread Damien Robert
Well the recommanded way to source your xsession is given in bug:
#398300.

There are two things that happen here:
You have to add a file named Xsessions.desktop to /etc/X11/sessions with the
contents:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Xsession
Comment=This runs ~/.xsession
Exec=/etc/X11/Xsession

Exec=default should be the right way, but it is not because of the bug i
reported here.
The problem is that with Exec=/etc/X11/Xsession, the files in Xsession.d get
sourced twice, so it would be nice if we could put Exec=default instead.

So far, I guess that the boot really fails.
I get the following message :
Mount of root filesystem failed.
A maintenance shell will now be started
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and reboot the system

I wait for 15 minutes but nothing happened.

Another time, I get One or more of the mounts listed in /etc/fstab
cannot yet be mounted followed by the list of all my LVs and again
nothing happens.

I'm going to make a new install of ubuntu.

I'm also experiencing this behavior (ubuntu 9.10), but with a singular thing :
When launching Rhythmbox, if I try to read
'http://network.absoluteradio.co.uk/core/audio/ogg/live.pls?service=vcbb', it

work. Then, if I try to listen to 'mms://stream.mosaiquefm.net/mosaique64k' it
DOES work. Then, with 'mms://vipmms9.yacast.net/encoderrireetchansons', I get
an error with 'Impossible de démarrer le pipeline de lecture', and then NO
OTHER media (eg 1st tried web-radio, nor an mp3 song) works, unless I quit
Rhythmbox and restart it.

[Bug 476223] [NEW] Lenovo Ideapad S12 sleep fn key not working

2009-11-06 Thread Damien Corpataux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev-extras

The fn+f1 (sleep key) does not work on my Lenovo IdeaPad S12.

Running /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event4 and pressing fn+f1 does not
show me any scan code, but other fn keys (like fn+f7 [play/pause]) show
a scancode. Curiously, the backlight intensity keys (fn+up and fn+down)
do not showup neither, but acutally change backlight intensity (without
showing the notification slider as it would show in jaunty before
upgrade to koala).

Following the /usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt Fixing broken
hotkeys procedure:

$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/sys_vendor
LENOVO

$ cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_name
20021,2959

$ sudo /lib/udev/keymap -i input/event4
Press ESC to finish
scan code: 0x01 key code: esc
[[[ Nothing shows up when pressing fn+f1 ]]]

[See dumps.txt attached file for /tmp/orig-map.txt and /tmp/udev-db.txt]

[Bug 398300] Re: The new gdm doesn't give an option to use .xsession

2009-10-31 Thread Damien Robert
There is still a small problem with this solution:
/etc/gdm/Xsession will source the files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ and then the
file 99x11-common_start will launch
/etc/X11/Xsession, which will source the files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ again.
In particular there will be two ssh-agents and two dbus session launched, which
is not too good.

In the .desktop file:
Exec=default
should work, but it does not because of bug #465349.
(and it works for me since i modified /etc/gdm/Xsession to source
/etc/X11/Xsession)

[Bug 465349] [NEW] /etc/gdm/Xsession does not call /etc/X11/Xsession

2009-10-30 Thread Damien Robert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

On /etc/gdm/Xsession i see the following:

if [ -d /etc/X11/Xsession.d ]; then
for i in `ls /etc/X11/Xsession.d/` ; do
if [ -r /etc/X11/Xsession.d/$i ] expr $i : '^[[:alnum:]_-]\+$'
/dev/null; then
. /etc/X11/Xsession.d/$i
fi
done
fi

so that the files in /etc/X11/Xsession.d are read.

However
1) The following variables are not set:
SYSRESOURCES=/etc/X11/Xresources
USRRESOURCES=$HOME/.Xresources

SYSSESSIONDIR=/etc/X11/Xsession.d
USERXSESSION=$HOME/.xsession
USERXSESSIONRC=$HOME/.xsessionrc
ALTUSERXSESSION=$HOME/.Xsession
ERRFILE=$HOME/.xsession-errors
but they are used by the scripts in /etc/X11/Xsession.d

they are set by /etc/X11/Xsession, so a workaround would be to source
this file rather than the script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d

2) the script in /etc/gdm continues with
if [ x$command = xcustom ] ; then
  if [ -x $HOME/.xsession ]; then
command=$HOME/.xsession
  else
echo $0: Cannot find ~/.xsession will try the default session
command=default
  fi
fi
...

But this will never be called, because the sourced file
Numenor /etc/gdm $ cat /etc/X11/Xsession.d/99x11-common_start
# $Id: 99x11-common_start 305 2005-07-03 18:51:43Z dnusinow $

# This file is sourced by Xsession(5), not executed.
exec $STARTUP

will exec $STARTUP so that the rest of the gdm script after sourcing the
scripts in /etc/X11/Xsession.d
are not read. I understand this as a fallback in case nothing is launched by
/etc/X11/Xsession.d, but this should be commented, I have the impression the
maintenair expect the rest of the script to be read.

I think that what happens is that the parser that finds the iface names in
/etc/network/interfaces is not taking into account the fact that
eth0:1 is a valid iface name.

One thing that could be troublesome, is that if network managers manage
eth0, but that eth0:1 is managed by /etc/network/interfaces, then
network-manager should not put eth0 down (it would put eth0:1 down too),
that is it should look if aliases are used before putting an interface
down.

[Bug 443004] Re: Eclipse GTK is not working correct - especially buttons

I experienced the same problem with another java tool: CrashPlan Pro.
Exporting GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 fixed the problem there too.

[Bug 462453] Re: libdc-1394-22 gives libdc1394 error: Failed to initialize libdc1394 when loaded.

2009-10-28 Thread Damien
This could be a problem with the kernel modules, more specifically with
the new firewire stack.

Please send us the output of

lsmod | grep 1394
lsmod | grep firewire

I believe that the latest sources have been patched regarding the new
stack.

It could also be related to the access to the raw1394 device, but I
don't know if the packages touch /dev/ in any way.

[Bug 246613] Re: ocfs2 startup link prior to open-iscsi

2009-10-21 Thread Damien Hardy
The same things can be done about drbd8-utils ( /etc/rc2.d/S70drbd )
before ocfs2 stuffs

However the update-rc.d script about ocfs2 and o2cb raise some warning
about non LSB conformant issues.

Ex:
~# update-rc.d ocfs2 defaults 90 05
update-rc.d: warning: ocfs2 start runlevel arguments (2 3 4 5) do not match LSB
Default-Start values (2 3 5)
update-rc.d: warning: ocfs2 stop runlevel arguments (0 1 6) do not match LSB
Default-Stop values (none)

1.9.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1
xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support (1.9.0.12+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1) to
1.9.0.13+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.04.1

After reboot, the problem is once again back there.

Seems that libnss3-dev libnspr4-dev are involved in both 2 last
updates, but it may be a chance : they are not listed in previous
updates I logged there.

0.91.1+r113-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty
python-ubuntuone-storageprotocol (0.91.0+r54-0ubuntu1~ppa1~jaunty) to

[Bug 400869] Re: after running update manager, Nautilus cannot handle computer location

2009-07-30 Thread Damien Wendlinger
I found also a new symptom :
* when opening a Nautilus window, a cdrom0 is shown in the places panel. When
opening the media folder, 2 CD-ROM readers are shown : cdrom cdrom0
cdrom0 is gone when the problem is solved.

I applied some updates yesterday evening :

After reboot, the problem is back !
I had also the ubuntuone packages available for update, but I did not install
them yet

I'll re-fix the problem tonight (reinstall remove glib-2.20.1) update

[Bug 400869] Re: after running update manager, Nautilus cannot handle computer location

2009-07-27 Thread Damien Wendlinger
I am using ubuntuone-client.
I did not try to remove see if this helps (saw this report AFTERWARDS...) but
if this behavior comes back again, i'll check it update...
However, i tried to 'sudo make uninstall' glib-2.20.1, which was not installed
when the problem came up.
so installed it, then uninstalled it this makes the problem disappear.

Please notice some visible clues when the problem is there :
* trash icon is gone (trying to re-add it on panel seems to work (no error
raised) but no icon)
* when trying to open the computer icon, gedit comes up with the error
nautilus cannot handle [name:] locations (this can be computer)
* no usb drive is available (even SD-Cards)
* some menus in 'system' are set back to english (i'm using the 'fr' locale).
For example, Preferences item is in english (not 'préférences', but
'preferences'). The 3 items 'Help', 'About Gnome' and 'About ubuntu' are also
set back to english. Other items within menus are, too.

If this helps :
* trying to reinstall (through synaptics) gvfs gvfs-backends gvfs-bin gvfs-fuse
packages don't change
* trying to reinstall ubuntu-desktop doesn't help either

I found other people experiencing the same thing. Please find the link below :
* http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=801597page=4 (see post #37)

I don't know if the logs (post #10, from Sebastien Bacher) would help,
but if yes, please let me know !

[Bug 319053] Re: Bluetooth Mighty Mouse Left and Right Clicks do not register in 8.10

2009-05-26 Thread Damien Ciabrini
Hi,

After a bit of testing, when I boot my machine with older kernel
2.6.24-21-generic, the Wireless Mighty Mouse buttons are correctly
detected.

It seems to me that the problem may be linked to a change in the kernel
rather than a user space bluez issue.

Robert, could you give this kernel a try and let us know whether you can
reproduce this behavior?

[Bug 319053] Re: Bluetooth Mighty Mouse Left and Right Clicks do not register in 8.10

2009-05-24 Thread Damien Ciabrini
Hi,

I have the same issues with by Wireless Might Mouse and 9.04 Amd64. Click
events are not generated.
My packages version:
bluez:
  Installed: 4.32-0ubuntu4
linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic:
  Installed: 2.6.28-11.42

I have a CSR bluetooth dongle (lsusb)
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle
(HCI mode)

Info from hcitool con:
Connections:
ACL 00:1D:4F:50:6D:AC handle 41 state 1 lm MASTER

When I do a hcidump, I can see some packets printed whenever I move the mouse,
but never when i click on any of its buttons.
HCI sniffer - Bluetooth packet analyzer ver 1.42
device: hci0 snap_len: 1028 filter: 0x
ACL data: handle 41 flags 0x02 dlen 12
L2CAP(d): cid 0x0040 len 8 [psm 0]
...

Interestingly, when launching evtest on the relevant input device, I'm
getting:
Input driver version is 1.0.0
Input device ID: bus 0x5 vendor 0x5ac product 0x30c version 0x200
Input device name: Mighty Mouse
Supported events:
  Event type 0 (Sync)
  Event type 1 (Key)
Event code 272 (LeftBtn)
Event code 273 (RightBtn)
Event code 274 (MiddleBtn)
Event code 275 (SideBtn)
  Event type 2 (Relative)
Event code 0 (X)
Event code 1 (Y)
Event code 6 (HWheel)
Event code 8 (Wheel)
  Event type 4 (Misc)
Event code 4 (ScanCode)
  Event type 20 (Repeat)
Testing ... (interrupt to exit)

It seems that on this mouse, buttons are advertised as keys.
Given the output of hcidump, maybe this means that events for those keys are
not correctly handled at kernel level? (hence click issues under X)
I can confirm those they events were seen on Ubuntu 8.10.

Rgrds,
Damien

[Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome

2009-04-21 Thread Damien Freeze
Ok...here's an update from my futile efforts...I've tried to replace the
xorg.conf file, but the backups are all void, too...I've tried booting
an older kernel, with the same result. I've switched to a tty, done a
killall on hald and gdm, and restarted them in the proper order, which
brings up a grey screen with a black X for a cursor and does nothing
else. I've tried the update-rc fix, and still no mouse or
keyboard...switching to tty1 from the hung boot window, I see an error
message that says FATAL; Module -r not found, which is obviously the
end of an output from something, but it doesn't say WHAT it's the output
from. Nothing works so far...I'm not a complete n00b, but I don't know
how to interpret the logfiles, so I'm posting the ones I think may be
pertinent...If I miss any that need to be looked at, or post any extra
ones that aren't needed, I apologize. I greatly appreciate any help
anyone can offer...

[Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome

2009-04-20 Thread Damien Freeze
I updated this morning (actually, I rebooted this morning when I woke up
and the update manager said it had downloaded an important security
update and needed to be restarted), and now I have no keyboard or mouse.
I'm on an Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop, 1.66 gHz Intel Celeron M, 2 Gb RAM.
Currently, I'm forced to run on the live CD to be able to post this, but
that's not an acceptable option for long term. I've tried several
different fixes mentioned in the forums, but nothing seems to work.
I've tried using apt to update/upgrade/dist-upgrade and autoremove, to
no avail...I've tried the xserver-xorg-input-all tip, and nothing...of
course, since I'm doing it all through the Live CD, I don't know if any
of it is actually getting to my hard drive. I'm reaching the end of my
rope here...thinking about chucking this paperweight out the window and
going to get an abacus...snail-mail, I'm coming home!

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

[Bug 362064] Re: Cannot open or save files with windows apps

2009-04-16 Thread Damien Dunlop
1. Backtrace

Followed the procedure to create a backtrace, but it failed as seen
below:

d...@ubuntu:~$ apt-cache policy gedit

Reading state information... Done
E: Couldn't find package gedit-dbgsym

2. Further information

As the problem is to do with Open, Save, Save-As and as the problem is
`global',
that is, affects any application I have tried and as it is most unlikely that
Ubuntu
has released a desktop system with all Open, Save, Save-As programs broken,
the problem may be due to permissions - and it is!

using: sudo gedit, opening a file, then saving it with a different name WORKS!
The new file has the owner and group set to root.

So the applications can be used by root, but not a user (even though this Ubuntu
has been released for just one user and that user has Admin permissions).

[Bug 362064] [NEW] Cannot open or save files with windows apps

2009-04-15 Thread Damien Dunlop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

a) No idea what Ubuntu version I have as that information is well hidden
(extremely annoying).
b) The Update Manager claims everything is up to date as of one hour ago.
c) The Windows applications I have tried (gedit, gimp) `disappear' as soon as
I click on menu items `Open', `Save', `Save-As'
e) Found a) above by reading the Ubuntu notes below (how archaic to have to go
to a command line
and enter a non-intuitive command, ie `gobbledy-gook'):
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.2
Release:8.04
f) From Package Manager: gedit version 2.22.3-0Ubuntu2
g) Opened gedit, typed some text, clicked on File | Save-As, expected a screen
to ask for a file name,
 however gedit just disappeared (closed).

[Bug 353712] [NEW] [Jaunty] Latest update (1:2.26.0-0ubuntu5) causes problems with dual screens

worked fine yesterday morning and the days before).

- The Gnome panel is now on the laptop screen but it was on the main

- Clicking on the maximize button of a window in the main screen does
not maximize it as expected (in fact, it does maximize vertically but
not horizontally): see attached screenshot.

[Bug 331130] Re: Eee PC internal microphone inverts noise cancellation

2009-04-01 Thread Damien
Sharing an observation.

From experimentation it appears that the left mic channel has side
information and the right has mono (middle). Something like Chan1=L-R
Chan2=L+R.

If this were reversed at least most applications would get the sum of
the two microphones (i.e. mono). As things stand, when apps use the
first mic channel they just get the difference (side) which is usually
of no use.

To confirm this I moved around making noise, then using audacity I split
the stereo sample into two mono samples, I'll call them 1 and 2...
inverted 1 to make !1, then with a bit of fiddling made a pair of
samples (1+2) and (!1+2), joined them as stereo left and right and got
what I'd have had if the mics had been straight stereo.

If anyone here has audacity on their 901 can they confirm that the right
channel appears to be the sum of the mics, and the left is the
difference?

[Bug 298483] Re: crash/freeze playing Klondike Solitaire, calling ExaCheckPutImage+0x103

2009-03-21 Thread Damien
I have the same problem on Ubuntu 8.10. But I do have it everytime I'm
on battery. here's a copy of a message I posted somewhere else:

Critical bug with AisleRiot

It always happens on battery, never had the problem otherwise.
I start a game of Aislriot, fullscreen or not, I start playing, and at some
point when I move a card the screen freezes and goes black. A cross appears and
disappears in the middle of the screen, indicating that X is trying to restart
or something. Rebooting Ubuntu normaly doesn't solve it, I just end on terminal
tty1. Ctrl Alt F7 leads me to a blinking white cursor, terminal style. I have
to reboot the computer and start Ubuntu in safe mode to repair X with the xfix
function. It sometimes is not enough and some data on my disk are severly
damaged. It happened three times in a row now and I'm pretty sure it will
happen again if I start a new game. The xorg.conf.datetime saved does not seem
to differ from the restored one.

It only happens with AisleRiot, I can watch films and play Wine games
without problem.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 with the Netbook Remix interface on a Asus
Eee901, which as only SSD drives. The kernel is Array.org lean.

Now, my Eeebox was connected to WIfi Hotspot (open auth) only for update
but not in my network...

The driver from Ralink have a no standardised config file and you have 2
options :
- Active WPA authentification
- Active WPA authentification on Network Manager

But i don't know if it's Network Manager or module of kernel the
problem...
