[Bug 408583] Re: thunderbird-gnome-support contains only docs?

2018-06-28 Thread Dominik George
The bug still exists, and has for the last 9 years.

If you had read the bug description, you would have find out that
everything you posted is irrelevant. Simply look at any of the file
listings of the package, e.g. https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/amd64
/thunderbird-gnome-support/filelist .

Why should I generate any sort of collected report when the bug is that
the package in fact contains only two text files instead of the real
content of the package?

Also, I cannot generate such a report as I have long moved away from
Ubuntu - among other shortcomings due to such awkward bugs noone cares
about.

[Bug 1746418] Re: System freezes when starting Xorg after installing linux-image-4.13.0-32-generic

2018-02-01 Thread Dominik George
I verified again that it is not X. The hang also occurs when booting
into multi-user.target and even after purging X.org.

I felt adventorous and did the following:

I booted into rescue mode. Then I let a shell loop start every service
in /lib/systemd/system with 1 sec delay. All service came up without
issues and I got the system to the same state as multi-user.target
would.

Another update: 4.4.0-112 generic from 16.04 shows the same issue. I do
not know how to mark that in Launchpad.

I can confirm the issue on a Lenovo T470s. However, it runs 16.04 LTS,
but with the same kernel package.

Disabling lightdm (and thus startup of X does not fix the issue here,
but the rest is identical.

[Bug 1343888] [NEW] _get_changelog_or_news does not handle Basic auth properly

2014-07-18 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

_get_changelog_or_news when fetching chengelogs from third-party URLS
that contain username:password does not handle that information
correctly.

urllib2 expects to get the authorization information in a an Opener
object isntead of in the URL. Passing it in the URL leads to it being
passed wrongly, which also is a bug in urllib2.

Here is how to do it the right way (but untested as I do not have

[Bug 910814] [NEW] Dependency on libgeier0 is logically broken

2012-01-02 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

2010-10-30 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

In a Maverick vanilla installation with all updates applied, Mozilla
Firefox exposes a bug probably related to the User-Agent and/or
Accepted-Language headers sent to webservers when using the de locale.

The webservers or websites apparently aren't able to determine the

[Bug 542642] [NEW] USB mass storage support massively broken

2010-03-20 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

After installing lucid on my notebook, I am experiencing massive problem
with USB mass storage that did not occur in karmic.

- A 1 GB SD card is recognized as 512 MB, but functional appart from that
- A 4 GB SDHC card is totally unusable and produces a heap of I/O errors,
however it is functional in other machines and in karmic
- One USB hard drive is readable from udev, partition table is recognized, but
freezes at that point and becomes unusable (i.e. fdisk, mount, etc. hang
forever)
- Another USB hard drive looked functional, then was silently dropped with
massive filesytem corruption

The kernel logs should be attached, this is a too general problem to
break it down into the different devices I think.

[Bug 526893] [NEW] xterm wrongly handles Unicode on the prompt when printing text

2010-02-24 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xterm

xterm misinterpretes some characters and writes junk text to the
terminal under the followign conditions:

1. The prompt contains special charachters, in this test case german umlauts
2. The text printed from a command (shell built-in, program, script, etc.) does
not end with a line break

Steps to reproduce:

Start xterm or any terminal emulator relying on it (e.g. gnome-
terminal), then create or cd into a directory containing an umlaut (e.g.
Ü11). Run a command that generates a one-line output of text, e.g. echo
-n Hello.

Expecgted behaviour: The output text is printed in front of the next
line's command line prompt with the input mark behind the prompt

Current behaviour: Text is not printed, instead, parts of the prompt are
printed behind it and after the input mark

2010-02-24 Thread Dominik George
zsh is the login shell, but this is about Bash (running from zsh or
native does not matter). The bug is reproducible across multiple
hosts, users, environments.

It is not related to the shell itself. The bug can be reproduced in
Bash, Dash and Csh.

The bug does not show when running in a tty, so it *is* X-related.

[Bug 511153] Re: Konqueror fails to open website properly after being in editor mode

2010-01-22 Thread Dominik George
If I am not mistaken, the process of triaging a bug consists of locating
it, having it completed, reporting it upstream and conencting the
upstream bug report to the Ubuntu bug report.

I can happily report it upstream, but it is still valid here.

2010-01-21 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sqlitebrowser

When importing an SQL dump, SQLiteBrowser asked whether to import it
into a new database file or into the one that is currently open. If no
database was opened before importing and the suer chooses to import it
anyway, SQLiteBrowser crashes.

[Bug 430333] Re: beta installer left ASUS EeePC 900 unbootable

2009-12-03 Thread Dominik George
From what we found out, this is a kernel bug. To report it upstream, it
should still be tested whether it also resides in other distributions
(preferrably with a vanilla kernel).

I'd suggest to test Debian first, then perhaps Gentoo with a
minimalistic set of kernel modules.

[Bug 430333] Re: beta installer left ASUS EeePC 900 unbootable

2009-12-03 Thread Dominik George
I would suggest to overwrite the device with a random, but defined
pattern instead of all zeroes (like DEADBEEF or something :P). This way,
you can verify the integrity afterwards. Zero bytes can be produced by
accident, DEADBEEF can't. So you will then see where the drive fails,
i.e., whether the defined pattern is really written on the device.

As far as the trouble with Arch, Debian and Windoze is concerned, I am
pretty sure that no code in Linux is capable of producing a failure like
this if it wasn't for (at least another) bug in the drive firmware or
hardware.

Please verify that the issue does not occur if Windows (or another
distribution) is installed on an entirely drive.

I suggest asking on one of the many forums whether there is anybody with
the same model and have him or her try to reproduce the error.

We can not consider this bug confirmed if a hardware failure is still
the most likely cause.

2009-12-02 Thread Dominik George
I am marking this as invalid for grub 2 as it is either a Linux bug or a
hardware failure.

We can not consider this bug confirmed for any package as long as a
hardware failure is still the most likey cause of the problem.

I suggest finding someone on one of the many forums who has the exact
syme drive model and have him or her reproduce the error.

[Bug 430333] Re: beta installer left ASUS EeePC 900 unbootable

2009-11-30 Thread Dominik George
I think this might be a Linux bug, i.e., not specific to Ubuntu.

As this is a UNIX-style application, no userland application should
contain code that can produce the corruption you describe.

This said, the component most likely being responsible is the libscsi
driver module doing the real disk operation.

Here are some things I´d propose:

- Test behaviour with default BIOS options
- Test behaviour with other distro
- Burn-in test, that is, writing defined patterns to the drive and check the
results

Please remember that there is still a slight chance of a hardware
failure. A module with a defect like this is very unlikely to enter the
Linux stable branch.

GNOME terminal does not have debug symbols in the Ubuntu package, but
here is an strace. It is hard to tell what goes wrong because the only
thing that happens is the visual effect of the window or tab
disappearing from the screen.

This is reproducable on several machines.

Bug reports are not a place to argue, but I should make this clear:

Minimizing an application to the system tray means *hiding* the window.
Closing it would mean loosing its functionality as well. Noone ever
wants to close a window when minimizing it to the tray, as long as they
really know what they are doing.

We are talkign about closing because hiding the window to the tray
is triggered by clicking the close button of the window.

What about using Alltray or something similar?

Because having to use third-party software for an application that
claims to integrate perfectly with the GNOME desktop when it in fact
doesn't.

[Bug 443423] [NEW] Connection properties are not stored

2009-10-05 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

NetworkManager doesn't store conneciton properties anymore. That is,
when entering connections details and hitting Apply, the window closes
without any message, but the changes neither take effect nor do they
show up when entering the properties dialog again.

This might, at my best guess, well be a DBus error.

[Bug 437362] [NEW] Pidgin hangs when IRC contacts sign on or off

2009-09-26 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

When IRC buddies sign on or off, Pidgin hangs for several seconds (up to
one minute). The notification pops up before it goes to lunch, but then,
the UI is dead.

As Pidgin continues normal operation afterwards it is hard to debug what
is going wrong ...

This might be related to IPv6, as I am using Freenode over IPv6.

Also happens to me in karmic, pulseaudio-1:0.9.18-0ubuntu2 . I just
tried to debug it, but when running PulseAudio with the -vv flags it
doesn't crash :/.

Normally, it just hangs there, producing 100% load on both CPU cores,
blocking ALSA, and doing nothing.

[Bug 429363] [NEW] Auto replies are not encrypted

2009-09-14 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin-otr

Some protocols tend to send away messages as auto replies (like Oscar).
I observe these messages are not encrypted even if the related
conversation has OTR enabled.

This is not only a security flaw but also a nasty thing as Pidgin will
complain about it.

[Bug 401402] Re: Package eclipse has unmet dependencies

2009-09-11 Thread Dominik George
The problem results from Matthias Klose committing a changeset to the
package on 28 June 2009. He removed the binary package definitions for
all *-gcj packages from the eclipse source package (there are quite a
few packages built from that) but didn't remove the references to them
in the Recommendations for the other binaries.

I created a patch to remove the recommendations.

[Bug 427804] [NEW] pidgin crashed with SIGSEGV in pidgin_request_timeout_cb()

2009-09-11 Thread Dominik George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pidgin

I had several conversations open over IRC, Jabber, MSN and ICQ and was
receiving a message through an ICQ conversation before the application
disintegrated into dust ...

I'm not sure if perhaps some protocol reconnected and pidgin-gpg tried
to fire up a pinentry window (which never appeared thus crashed the
application waiting for the callback). This would mainly be a pidgin-gpg
issue then but nevertheless, Pidgin shouldn't crash if some plugin idles
forever.

I still guess it's not related anyway though.

[Bug 403325] Re: drag and drop to local folders is offset

2009-09-10 Thread Dominik George
This was definitely a xulrunner bug. All the GUI stuff concerning
Mozilla applications depends on XUL and xulrunner.

What makes me reck my brains is why firefox-3.5 depends on xulrunner =
1.9.1 , I have 1.8.1 installed, and the dependency is still met, but
this is another thing we really shouldn't discuss here :D.
