Re: [ubuntu-art] Wallpaper site

2009-10-09 Thread Frank Karlitschek
Hi,

I´m running this site:
http://www.ubuntu-art.org/

Isn´t this more or less what you requested?
Let me know if you need more features and I can see what I can do.
By the way a redesign is coming soon. :-)

We also support the open collaboration services api.
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/open-collaboration-services
So you can access all the wallpapers via an REST api and download it
directly to the desktop if you want.

What do you think?

Cheers
Frank

Maybe we could list out some requirements on the wiki?

Are we talking just about a single wallpaper site for gathering and
voting as well as a place people can go to pick up wallpapers? At last
count we got 19 wallpapers on the CD which is great but there are so
many brilliant ones that it seems a shame not to be able to provide
people with a simple way of adding more.

Should there be a separate conversation about more general artwork
 stuff
and whether or not a wiki is the best tool for us?

The one advantage Flickr has, for the moment at least, is that it
 makes
it really easy for people who are not used to contributing but who do
like to take photos. Not sure how much that matters?

Mailing lists and wikis are great but it can be a bit hard to get
 stuck
 in sometimes.

Hope I haven't just repeated what someone else has said - last
 couple of
weeks have been hectic so have only had time to skim read!

For voting can we use ubuntu brainstorm?

Depending on if the site were to have its own separate domain as far
as I'm aware the Ubuntu Brainstorm website is built on Drupal and the
voting system is a module/plugin for it. Rather than take up stapce
 on
that site with votes for wallpapers I think the proposed website
should have its own separate voting system.

AFAICS, there are no tools to vote or compare selections.

For voting can we use ubuntu brainstorm?

For every image in the shared Ubuntuone folder , user can vote...
there , but this is a bit of a hassle , but only users who are
interested will end up voting and going through all the trouble ;)

Re: [ubuntu-art] introduction

2008-09-03 Thread Frank Karlitschek
Hi,

great idea.

I have added brainstorming categories for 8.10 and 9.04 to www.ubuntu-art.org
  and www.kubuntu-art.org
I hope that helps.

Cheers
Frank

I have no official position whatsoever, so don't take my word for

But it would be nice if ubuntu-art.org had a section for 8.10
artwork discussion - where artists could upload their work and get
user feedback. Similar to this list, but I suppose that would get a
 lot more coverage.

[ubuntu-art] introduction

2008-09-01 Thread Frank Karlitschek
Hi,

I would like to introduce myself. I´m running the openDesktop.org
network with for example GNOME-Look.org, Ubuntu-Art.org and Kubuntu-
Art.org.

I´m following your discussion about the future of the Ubuntu Artwork
with a lot of interest.
I think you all are doing a great job with building a really beautiful
Operating System.

If there is something I can do to help you with your work please send
me a message.

If you need for example a place for uploading your artwork or
functionality to discuss or vote on something I would be glad to help
you.

Keep on rocking. :-)

Cheers
Frank
