Re: [ubuntu-in] download gmail mails elsewhere to read at home
1. Can I download mails on some other machine using fetchmail, copy the mail file from this machine, take it to my machine at home, and have Thunderbird get those mails? 2. What is the configuration required for this? This might help http://www.pantz.org/software/thunderbird/thunderbirdandmovemail.html procedure in the article is, Gmail = fetchmail = procmail = { local file } = thunderbird this is how you could possibly modify the setup, Gmail = fetchmail = procmail = { local file (remote) } = rsync = { usb disk } = {local file (home)} thunderbird (saves in .thunderbird) thanks gourav -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
Re: [ubuntu-in] Commercial support and AMC for ubuntu home users in delhi?
okay, so after one week of discussions on this, it emerges no commercial company is interested in offering amc and support to home users of linux. great for windows. so i need to lower my expections. would there be individuals, freelancers, college-students, etc., who'd be interested to offer *paid commercial support* for linux for home-users and for individuals, in your free time? in the NCR region? Even though we dont know the size of the market yet and potential for sustainable revenue, we know there is an opportunity to tap here , and this is probably the right place to find the suitable talent. I am pretty sure there are many individual freelancers around who are capable enough to provide support in free hours , but may think opening a dedicated firm is not a feasible idea due to various reasons. I am willing to take an initiative to start a support firm if there is enough interest. I am based in Chennai as off now, but if there are enough people interested in putting a collaborated team effort, a nationwide organiztion is certainly a possibility. What say folks? thanks gourav -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
Re: [ubuntu-in] Need some help -reg
Hi Anurag, Thanks for writing in to the list. I've been using UBUNTU right from my first year, approximately 2 years and I am ... I've been reading the various UBUNTU wikis for joining the team. And I need some guidance for getting start to working with the UBUNTU developers and getting into MOTU team. Please send me the required information and contacts to start with or if there are any pre-requisites. I've intermediate skills in programming in C, C++ and Java. Also I've worked with various open source technologies like PHP, MySQL, Netbeans, Drupal etc. Good start and great work so far with your initiatives at SASTRA and also enthusiasm to learn about linux, ubuntu in specific. Do keep it up. About being a memmber of MOTU (Master Of The Universe Team), I hope you have gone through this page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU here is a snipped from that age, There are no requirements or exams to pass to become a MOTU contributor, just a willingness to learn and a commitment to the Ubuntu Code of Conduct. Thats what matters, and if you have it, you are all set. I would suggest you to read the above page carefully, if you have not already done so, and contact one of the teams of your interest and get started. Apart from this, there are tons of other open source projects that you could contribute to. It all depends on what you are interested in. MOTU teams do more of package management, so if you are interested more in writing code, you could consider other projects also. do have a look at http://sourceforge.net/ Hope this helps. Re: [ubuntu-in] Searching for some photoslide show software
am searching for some open source / Linux software that can take a bunch of pics and do an automated slideshow. But it should be able to : a. Play music along with the slideshow b. play around with the pictures with random effects - zoom in out, merge in out, float around etc. Just a suggestions. How about using OpenOffice Impress, whereas you could insert pictures into the slides, add audio and create effects.
