Re: Problems translating some strings
Hello, Ibai. On Mon, Mar 24, 2014 at 6:19 PM, Ibai Oihanguren Sala i...@oihanguren.com wrote: 2.- This one has happened many times, but as an example: https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+source/transmission/+pots/transmission/eu/279/+translate As the info text says, %3$s%% is a percentage. In Basque, percentages are written this way: %25 (unlike English, or other languages, 25%), so, the correct translation of the string should be: %1$s %2$setik (%%3$s%) But I get this error: 'msgstr' is not a valid C format string, unlike 'msgid'. Reason: In the directive number 4, the character ')' is not a valid conversion specifier. Try (%%%3$s) instead. The original English string would appear as, for example: 5 of 10 (50%) %1$s is replaced by the first number (5), %2$s is replaced by the second number (10), and %3$s is replaced by the third number (50). The final %% just prints the percent sign (%). So if you want to print the percent sign before the number, then move the %% to the beginning: %%%3$s. The first two %% will print a percent sign, then the remaining %3$s will print the number. (These format strings get to be pretty confusing, don't they?) --Kevin -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators

[Bug 1284221] Re: Shouldn't it be menu bar rather than top bar?
From an IRC conversation that I had with mpt a while back (a year or two ago, now), we settled on the following definition. I added the definition and the usage notes to the Ubuntu Manual Style Guide: The menu bar is the bar along the top of the screen. It contains the window title, window menus, application status menus, and system status menus. While it is colloquially referred to as the top bar or the top panel, it should only be referred to as menu bar in the manual. (Note that the menu bar used to be a single word, menubar. Menu bar should now be two words, however.) If the names of any of these UI elements have changed, I'd like to know. I'd like to have the manual, system docs, and user interface be consistent. We should settle on canonical names for these elements and file bugs against those that deviate from them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1284221 Title: Shouldn't it be menu bar rather than top bar? [Bug 1232814] Re: Hibernate option is missing from menu in 13.10 even after trying to re-enable
I appreciate the patch, but I don't think this is suitable for the system documentation. In my view, the system documentation should document the software as it exists and not provide workarounds for design decisions. If the Hibernate menu option appears in the future, I'll happily document it. I'm going to mark this bug as invalid for the documentation project. Here are my final thoughts on this: Your argument for the UIFe is that people will notice the anticlockwise background. Your argument as to why we don't need to retake the screenshots is that no one will notice the anticlockwise background. This is an obvious contradiction. Will people notice or won't they? Should we expect a UIFe for the anticlockwise arrows on the Software Updater, as well? (This isn't a slippery slope fallacy, I'm honestly asking. Should we be expecting more UIFes for other icons? You're not required to defend others' trademarks. You are under no legal obligation to accompany trademark names with Ⓡ or ™ (for registered and unregistered trademarks, respectively). Because the symbols reduce the readability of the text, I'd recommend avoiding their use. In addition, while some companies encourage the use of both the proper and generic term in reference to their products (Google search engine instead of Google) and discourage turning product names into verbs, these restrictions are not legally binding. [Bug 469499] Re: Usability issue in hard disk failing dialog
I reported this in the GNOME bug tracker and they bounced it back saying that it's Ubuntu-specific: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606722 The Cancel and OK buttons appear to have the same effect -- that is, dismissing the dialog. If they have other effects, the buttons should be relabeled. Otherwise the Cancel button should be removed. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #606722 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=606722 -- Usability issue in hard disk failing dialog https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/469499 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 296288] Re: texdoc should use evince and not xpdf
Install the texlive-base and texlive-latex-base-doc packages (along with its dependencies). Then, at a command prompt, type: $ texdoc clsguide This will report the following error message (assuming xpdf hasn't been installed): sh: xpdf: not found The expected result is that a PDF document (clsgiude.pdf) will be located on the system and opened using the PDF viewer. As a workaround, you can add the following line to your ~/.bashrc file: export TEXDOC_VIEWER_PDF=(evince %s) and then run: $ source ~/.bashrc This will tell texdoc to use evince instead of xpdf as the PDF viewer. You may have to set similar environment variables (e.g., TEXDOC_VIEWER_DVI) for other file types. -- texdoc should use evince and not xpdf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296288 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 123848] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_set_line_width()
Potential fix below. When I ran 'gnome-appearance-properties' from a terminal, I saw a few errors like: /usr/bin/compiz.real (core) - Warn: No GLXFBConfig for depth 32 To resolve this issue, I added to following two lines: Option AddARGBGLXVisuals True Option DisableGLXRootClippingTrue to the Screen section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and restarted X Windows (logout of Gnome and at the login screen, press Ctrl-Alt- Backspace, then login again). After logging back in again, enabling desktop effects worked. [Bug 123848] Re: compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_set_line_width()
I just used the restricted drivers manager to disable and re-enable my nvidia driver, and it did add those two lines to the xorg.conf file. Interestingly, though it added the lines to the Device section, whereas the info I found online suggested I add the lines to the Screen section. I'm not sure which is correct, but both appear to work. As to this particular bug, however, I still think it's a valid bug. Compiz should not segfault -- ever -- for any reason. A better solution would be to recommend to the user that those two lines should be added to the xorg.conf file. An ever nicer solution would be to offer to add the lines to the file so the user doesn't have to. -- compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in cairo_set_line_width() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 52151] pkgconfig file points to wrong lib filename
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libodbc++-dev The /usr/lib/pkgconfig/libodbc++.pc file suggests that the compiler use '-lodbc++-mt', but the libodbc++4 package provides the library *without* multi-threaded support, so the actual library filename is 'libodbc++.so'.
