[Bug 2070315] Re: error in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf from today's patch
I don't know if I have the same issue or not, but after an update a couple days ago, I rebooted yesterday and lost my print services. I'm on Xubuntu 22.04.4 LTS. The Printers dialog shows nothing and just says "Printing service not available. Start the service on this computer or connect to another server." "ps ax | grep cups| shows no processes running. I tried "sudo service cups start" which gave this in the syslog: Jun 27 18:41:41 kfank-VirtualBox sudo[3658]:kfank : TTY=pts/2 ; PWD=/home/kfank ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/sbin/service cups start Jun 27 18:41:41 kfank-VirtualBox sudo[3658]: pam_unix(sudo:session): session opened for user root(uid=0) by (uid=1000) Jun 27 18:41:41 kfank-VirtualBox systemd[1]: Listening on CUPS Scheduler. [Bug 2054861] [NEW] suspend-target and systemd-suspend.service hang on resume and blocks shutdown/reboot
Public bug reported: This happens only after I connect my Toshiba FireTV via HDMI. I don't need to be using the TV. If I have connected TV just once it is enough to trigger this bug. Laptop goes to sleep just fine but when it wakes up from sleep I see 5 services when I execute $ systemctl list-jobs JOB UNIT TYPE STATE 7348 nvidia-resume.servicestart waiting 7236 suspend.target start waiting 7346 grub-common.service start waiting 7237 systemd-suspend.service start running 7241 grub-initrd-fallback.service start waiting In this state, I have to cancel suspend-target which in turn cancels 7346 grub-common.service start waiting 7237 systemd-suspend.service start running 7241 grub-initrd-fallback.service start waiting Then, I have to cancel cancelling systemd-suspend.service which cancels 7348 nvidia-resume.servicestart waiting I use the laptop without issues but then if I need to shut it down or reboot, system gets stuck after logging out of X. I end up doing a REISUB. This only happens if I connect to TV via HDMI. [Bug 1977695] [NEW] Black Screen on Boot with X11
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Release:22.04 xorg: Installed: 1:7.7+23ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:7.7+23ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:7.7+23ubuntu2 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1. Uncomment WaylandEnable=false in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf 2. Reboot. 3. See black screen after selecting Ubuntu at GRUB prompt. Login screen never loads. Unplugging any external monitors appears to have no effect on the bug. I am aware that most users of Ubuntu 22.04 see an option at the login screen to change the display manager. I have never seen such an option. My machine always uses Wayland unless I modify /etc/gdm3/custom.conf directly. Using Wayland is detrimental to my health, because the Night Light feature does nothing. I have nvidia-driver-510 installed. I am happy to provide further debugging information upon request. [Bug 1965728] [NEW] default bashrc contains invalid ternary statement
Public bug reported: Shellcheck detected an instance of https://github.com/koalaman/shellcheck/wiki/SC2015 in the .bashrc that ships with Ubuntu. Here is the existing code: test -r ~/.dircolors && eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)" || eval "$(dircolors -b)" It appears to be intended to behave like a ternary statement. The existing code evaluates `eval "$(dircolors -b)"` if `test -r ~/.dircolors` is true and `eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)"` is false, which at face value doesn't appear to be the intention. According to Shellcheck, it should instead be: if [ -r ~/.dircolors ]; then eval "$(dircolors -b ~/.dircolors)" else eval "$(dircolors -b)" fi This ensures that the else case only executes when test -r ~/.dircolors is false. [Bug 298480]
Git commit 18dc0fde2b47b70ac65e4a0400ed0b79c12b1196 by Kurt Hindenburg, on behalf of Christoph Cullmann. Committed on 06/09/2021 at 16:35. Pushed by hindenburg into branch 'release/21.08'. improve session closing behavior the new session close behavior is again the old - first send SIGHUP and wait one second if that works - then hard kill before we tried to send an EOF character this needed workaround to not kill "non shell" programs unexpected and doesn't work e.g. if - you have some not finished command input in your shell - on e.g. FreeBSD in general When closing the session with some background process still running: - using Ctrl+D (which sends EOF) will leave that background process running (which is the expected behaviour with e.g. BASH: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2009-03/msg00091.html) - using e.g. the close button on the titlebar will close the session and kill any background processes You can also use 'somecommand & disown', if you want to ensure background processes aren't killed when you close a konsole window. [Bug 1899878] Re: Python's test_ssl fails starting from Ubuntu 20.04
2) and 3) would never return 0, which is what the upstream OpenSSL version returns now. 2) would make it return TLS1_VERSION for the minimum and TLS1_3_VERSION for the maximum with default build options. If you enable SSlv3 support at compile time, the minimum would return SSL3_VERSION. Note that there is a TLS_MAX_VERSION define that's equal to TLS1_3_VERSION, but no such define for the minimum. 1) would just return what is set, which is 0 upstream and for Ubuntu for both minimum and maximum, where 0 is defined as no limit set. Debian sets the minimum to TLS1_2_VERSION, and so returns that value. But maybe if no limit is set (and so the value is 0), it can instead return the minimum/maximum version that's supported at compile time. 3) Would have as effect that upstream in 1.1.1 returns TLS1_VERSION and TLS1_3_VERSION, but TLS1_2_VERSION and TLS1_3_VERSION in 3.0. For Ubuntu and Debian it would return TLS1_2_VERSION and TLS1_3_VERISON, since that is what they do using a different method. Setting the default minimum to TLS1_2_VERSION (at compile time) will clearly fix your problem. But I think you're going to run in the same problem with 3.0, and we should probably add a new API in 3.0 for it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1899878 Title: Python's test_ssl fails starting from Ubuntu 20.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/1899878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1899878] Re: Python's test_ssl fails starting from Ubuntu 20.04
There are 3 things that can possibly returned by such a function: 1) The value that's set as minimum/maximum 2) The minimum and maximum version that's supported by the library, not depending on settings 3) The minimum and maximum version that's supported by the library, depending on current settings The function now does 1), and you seem to want 3). And I'm not sure it's a good idea to change the function, I would prefer a new function.
My understanding of things is that Ubuntu does this: - Set the default security level to 2 (at compile time) - Disable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 at security level 2, only keeping TLS 1.2 by default This is what Debian does: - Set the default security level to 2 (using a config file) - Set the minimum version to TLS 1.2 (using a config file) To be able to use TLS 1.0 on Ubuntu you need to: - Change the security level to 1 To be able to use TLS 1.0 on Debian you need to: - Set the minimum allowed version to TLS 1.0 My understanding of the issue is that python doesn't know which TLS version can be negotiated, and uses or overrides the minimum TLS version which happens to currently work on Debian. But for the test suite it should also override the security level. Note that in upstream OpenSSL 3.0, TLS 1.0 and 1.1 no longer meet the requirements for security level 1, if you want to use TLS 1.0 in the test suite you need to set the security level to 0.
I was expecting SSL_CTX_get_min_proto_version() to return the default value (TLS1_2_VERSION). It's currently documented that 0 means the lowest supported by the library. If it returns 0 and the library supports TLS 1.0, it should be able to negotiate TLS 1.0. On reflection, I'm not sure that for the get function 0 is ever a good value to return, it should always return a version.

I can confirm that the workaround: $ gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings antialiasing 'grayscale' followed by logout+login. does stop the crashes. [Bug 1876184] Re: FreeCAD is missing PyQt5 dependency
FreeCAD moved from PyQt to PySide with 0.14, so this is actually an aliased import that's stuck around for historical compatibility reasons. The underlying problem is a little tricky to explain, but here goes: The version of PySide 2 that was in Ubuntu was removed because of bugs with Python 3.8. The version of PySide 2 that adds Python 3.8 support, however, requires Qt 5.14 because of breaking changes (the pyside2-rcc and pyside2-uic binaries were removed with their functionality added as flags to /usr/bin/rcc and /usr/bin/uic provided by Qt.) Unfortunately, the upstream commit that adds Python 3.8 support was applied after significant changes from the version that was in Ubuntu, so backporting that commit to add Python 3.8 support was not straightforward for me. The same problem is manifesting in Fedora 32: https://forum.freecadweb.org/viewtopic.php?f=10=45898 Here's the related Arch Linux bug report: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/64514 and here's the upstream bug for Python 3.8: https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/PYSIDE-1140 Trying to switch to PyQt5 may be a solution, but since we haven't used it in a long time it also may not be straightforward, and furthermore it introduces a license complication (FreeCAD & PySide 2 are LGPL, PyQt5 is GPL.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876184 Title: FreeCAD is missing PyQt5 dependency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freecad/+bug/1876184/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The config options we use in Debian are: no-idea no-mdc2 no-rc5 no-zlib no-ssl3 enable-unit-test no-ssl3-method enable-rfc3779 enable-cms enable-ec_nistp_64_gcc_128 I assume they are the same in Ubuntu. Only the last one (enable-ec_nistp_64_gcc_128) can have a performance difference, but not to encrypt something, it's related to NIST EC curves. The other difference is that we use -O2 instead of -O3. I doubt it will have an effect. But if you want to try it, just add -O2 to the options. There really isn't any reason why encryption should not have the same performance. I suggest that you verify which shared library you use using ldd, that you pick up the correct version. [Bug 1824727] [NEW] Keepass2 without xsel does not natively use primary X selection
Public bug reported: KeePass2 is a Mono password manager application. It will place usernames and passwords on the clipboard at the request of the user or when certain triggers are met. X has, essentially, three different clipboards though. The primary & secondary selections, and the clipboard. Due to a long-standing limitation of Mono, KeePass2 is only able to access the clipboard yet almost every terminal application in Linuxdom uses the primary selection in order to paste. KeePass2, as a workaround, is thus capable of using "xsel" to access the primary selection, but only if it's installed. If it's not installed, KeePass2 just silently uses the Mono API which cannot touch the primary selection, and the user is left to wonder why it doesn't work with any terminal. The non-inclusion of xsel as a required dependency for the keepass2 package is, therefore, a limitation to its functionality that reaches the level of a bug. ** Affects: keepass2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: clipboard keepass2 selection xsel -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1824727 Title: Keepass2 without xsel does not natively use primary X selection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/keepass2/+bug/1824727/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1806511] Re: FreeCAD 17 Beta text displayed as squares
Hello James, Judging by "FreeCAD 17 Beta", it sounds like you're using the FreeCAD snap, which was uploaded by a community member and then abandoned; it's from June 2016 and FreeCAD 0.17 was actually released April 6th, 2018. *I don't recommend using it at all*. I filed a name dispute for the snap on October 28th, 2018 so the community could regain control of the official 'freecad' snap, but I never heard anything back. Checking my snapcraft.io login, it looks like I now control the 'freecad' name and was never notified of the outcome of the dispute, but I don't expect I'll have time to work on snap terribly soon, since we're preparing for a 0.18 release. In the meantime, I suggest either using the FreeCAD Stable PPA (https://launchpad.net/~freecad-maintainers/+archive/ubuntu/freecad- stable) or grabbing one of the Appimages from our Github page (https://github.com/freecad/freecad/releases). Since 0.18 mostly contains bugfixes and UX improvements, and is now in a feature freeze, I'd suggest giving it a try if you're feeling adventurous. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1806511 Title: FreeCAD 17 Beta text displayed as squares To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/freecad/+bug/1806511/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic
The kernel provided in the proposed channel does not solve the issue for me. I also encounter the described boot issue in -23, -24 and -26 kernels. A workaround for me is using lightdm as display manager instead of gmd3. What was proposed in this thread and didn't work for me: * Installing havegd (verified for -23 and -24 kernels) * Installing -26 form bionic-proposed * Booting directly to -23 (without havegd) * Adding a spinning disk during boot in -24, or -26 (not sure whether I also tested this one in -23) I'm testing this on an HP ProBook 5320m (CPU: Intel Core i3 M350). Re: [Bug 1721032] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ffffb05287ef8000
I don't have issues on kernel linux-image-4.10.0-35-generic. I teste RC3, and I cannot start virtualBox on that kernel, as the module nessecary to run it won't compile on 4.14. [Bug 1417470] Re: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing
I am not sure if this is useful to everyone here, but I found a solution which is fine for me and much better than changing code manually. I am having the same problem, that Inkscape, when exporting to pdf_tex, sometimes creates to much pdf-pages, causing an error during the creation of the document. To avoid this, just before you safe your *.svg to *.pdf mark all text you have in your document, then put it to the highest level/layer (don't know how it's called in the english inskape). This should remove the unnecessary pages in the pdf. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1417470 Title: PDF+Latex export creates multipage pdf, pages missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1417470/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

More data for the report. Testing using a different program shows the same results. In this case I used a python program called getput to test the performance of an openstack swift node.
