Re: Ubunutu Server X VirtualBox
O VirtualBox oferece gerenciamento por linha de comando. Mas aconselho o Virt-Manager, mas talvez tenha que compilar com suporte a vbox. Eu utilizo Virt-Manager + KVM. By that I mean more low latency, high bandwidth network, than high bandwidth [relatively] high latency. Has far I'm concerned these features are top priority too. I could be wrong on either of those points, and obviously work could be done to address them. For the future I want a Spice greeter for lightdm. =) If x2go is the choice for Ubuntu, I have no problem with it, but I think it is important to add support for managing remote desktops technologies in the core of the session manager. FreeNX is not broken to be fixed. Just keep it outside of repository. I think it is a waste of time porting it to x2goagent. Fyi, there are a few changes I made to a freenx-server in a ppa at https://launchpad.net/~awstrial-dev/+archive/nx/+packages . The patches are in debian/patches, and affect - handling of '=' (and other characters) in the CMDLINE. - zenity support to nxdialog. - kind of hacky: add endsession hooks (when user closes window and selects 'terminate', a runparts will be done on a certain directory). Just for the record, anything involving lightdm development should go through the Desktop team, specifically Robert Ancell. Yes, the final word is from the lightdm developers. But the blueprint is from the ubuntu-server so I was talking to them first. Ubuntu Server Team decided to use x2go. I was asking them to promote the idea of adding remote destkop feature to lightdm. By the way as I am replying to Robert Ancel too. From LightDM list: Robert Ancell robert.ancell at gmail.com: Is there time now to consider the inclusion of some of the more offbeat use cases? 1: Headless(no monitor, keyboard, or monitor) Works now. 2: True headless(no video card) but Xvfb. Pass, I guess if X supports it? Bryce is probably the right person to know this one. Basically what we need for remote desktop is those 2 features and a way for the greeter to talk to the X server (Xvfb, nxagent, Xrdp, Xvnc, etc). NX greeter - lightdm - nxagent RDP greeter - lightdm - Xrdp I my opinion this is excellent way to promote lightdm. If Robert is interested in helping the discussion should continue in the LightDM list. Regards. Proposal for a Remote Desktop Server.
Hi, My name is Marcelo Boveto Shima (https://launchpad.net/~marceloshima). I'm the maintainer of FreeNX-Team (https://launchpad.net/~freenx-team). I was looking at the blueprints and just found that Ubuntu is planning to use X2go for Remote Desktop. I don't care if it is included in Ubuntu repository, but for a supported (main) solution there are better choices. X2go is a fork of NX. ~1 year ago I looked at X2go source and there were only visual differences about NX sources. So if Ubuntu is planning to package X2go sources, please consider to use the package nx-x11 from freenx-team PPA instead of x2goagent, then adapt x2goserver to use nxagent instead x2goagent. nx-x11 package is source v3.0 with multiples archives and x2goagent is just a repackaged nx-x11 and nxagent with some patches applied. History (you can jump to the proposal) FreeNX works great but is using a wrong language, it need a replacement: First I tried NeatX but it was a plain to work with it. Then X2go, but it was not compatible with Nomachine binary client. The I wrote TaciX in python, but then I the daemon it in Vala and kept the shell in python, it was working perfect. But then I decided to just wait for a solution done right, a solution based on ConsoleKit (the consolekit multi-seat branch). But the multi-seat branch was never accepted upstream. Proposal As Ubuntu solution for a Remote Desktop Server I propose is to develop an new server based on LightDM. Most of the features needed is already there. LightDM must be able to run an nxagent-wrapper instead of Xorg and create a way to the shell to communicate to the nxagent-wrapper. This is the architecture I used to develop TaciX. TaciX is modular, and have support for NXClient and RDP. So I propose LightDM to add Remote Desktop support and I will help to provide the Shell that communicates to NXClient and a server that accepts RDP connections. Regards. Re: [Bug 87122] Re: [needs-packaging] iFolder
Hi, I am working at the packages just now. I am cleaning up the packages (remove patches). I've got a ifolder server and a client working out of box. But I didn't got them to speak each other, I think the problem is with the server but I don't have a running server to test. I just uploaded the server package to my ppa, the client I will upload tomorrow. The main problem is that the server and the client conflicts each other. They both try to install the simias backend to /usr/lib/simias/web. So I put the server installing to /opt/ifolder. About the readiness of the package we should discuss. Since you are now advertising your re-packaging on the mailing list, you might as well explain it here. Actually you can still see them at http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?package=nx. 1 - libxcompext has been uploaded 2 - Moved debian/changelog to debian/changelog.old and created a new one, but there are some packages from medibuntu or other that keeps the original changelog. Forgot to add comments about the patches on the changelog. 3 - Clarified the descriptions. Tell me if is enough 4 - Clarified a bit, but only freenx developers will execute nxagent. It needs to be synchronized with nxproxy to be useful. 5 - watch file added. In the interest of making a clear distinction -- if there is one -- may I suggest that you name the packages freenx-* instead of nx-*? freenx-* are the components from the FreeNX server and nx-* are the core components. If up-arrow triggers screen shot then: $ killall metacity this will force metacity to update to the new keycodes. I'm following the intrepid development since the beginning. To make the keyboard work on an intrepid client, you need to set the model to evdev on the nx session: System - Preferences - Keyboard - Keyboard model - Generic - Evdev-managed keyboard Then close the nx session and start another session (This will correct the up-key taking screen shots). If want to you use another client again, you need to revert the process or you can set the hardy client to use evdev instead of kbd. Re: Proposed Features for Launchpad Bugs 3.0 - call for help!
Hi, I'm not a motu but I want to give my opinion on this. I tried several times the revu process but without success. This was because the review took so long (a month) that I always give up. I've uploaded azureus, synce (others related), omnibook (driver for my notebook), and the last were virt-manager and libvirt (both adopted by a debian maintainer, with corrections of corse) I know the Motu team doesn't have enought man power. So revu process should became easier by integrating it into launchpad. Launchpad already has PPA (builds the package with lintian checks, creates necessary debdiff and can have tests if the package works for users) so an option Propose for Ubuntu that puts the package with all necessary information into a queue for review. This would be a killer feature for merges and little corrections. Would be nice to have approved count exclusive to motu on this queue. [Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX
Indeed, PolicyKit should be repaired to allow a remote sessions permission to do something. But FreeNX/NX must be fixed to create a valid session. My solution corrects FreeNX/NX but just workaround PolicyKit problem. But I must say that in some cases this solution has a SECURITY IMPLICATION. Like I've showed in the proof of concept, the solution can act like a sudo and sudo my itself is an workaround. The problem is that a remote session should have the permission to gain admin right only if it is explicitly allow to do so. This happens only if you have admin rights but don't have sudo permission. Don't apply to Ubuntu, since the admin group has sudo permission by default. But I think Fedora/Red Hat don't uses sudo by default. Everybody that uses this fix must be aware of this problem. -- Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 221363] Re: Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX
The problem with PolicyKit is that it don't alow a remote session to have privileges. I already filled a bug while hacking the solution at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16510. SSH creates a remote session. NX don't creates a session (my solution creates a session on ConsoleKit, set active and set local). To PolicyKit work you must have to be in a valid ConsoleKit session. ConsoleKit uses the environment variable XDG_SESSION_COOKIE like: $ echo $XDG_SESSION_COOKIE f493e0b30e554108c3114c0046ffd1d0-1214412029.846197-1968504223 You can see ConsoleKit sessions executing: $ ck-list-sessions Session1: uid = '1000' realname = 'Marcelo,,,' seat = 'Seat1' session-type = '' active = TRUE x11-display = ':0' x11-display-device = '/dev/tty7' display-device = '' remote-host-name = '' is-local = TRUE on-since = '2008-06-25T16:40:29Z' So if you don't set a active=TRUE and is-local=TRUE session on ConsoleKit PolicyKit won't work. -- Policy Kit Unlock Buttons Greyed Out when using NX https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221363 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It's duplicate source code. - There is no security problem because only 3 libs (libX11, libXext and libXrender) are shipped on the package and they can have the security patches ported from dapper. I remember it was a problem because NX was a fork of XFree86. - This libs can be renamed to libXXX-nx. So will not conflict with the Xorg ones. - libXcomp, NXProxy and qtnx (NX client) are already in. We need the server to make the client useful. - Freenx is shell scripts. But we have Freenx-NG that is python. This was another problem when it was proposed to get in some years ago. Re: [Bug 116897] Re: [needs-packaging] virt-manager
Ok, this happened some time ago to me when libvirtd sigfaulted, but the bridge was up and didn't went down. brctl didn't help me so to remove this bridge the only way I found was to reboot. Try to debug it by: disabling auto start on /etc/default/libvirt reboot Then $ sudo libvirtd -v This should start libvirtd on verbose mode. When you use virt-manager the console with libvirtd should print informations about some operations. Post the results here. Try to use the new package, it is built already. Not sure if this helps. I have two laptops with the same configuration. I.e. I started with the same version from the ppa repo. They have recently been upgraded. They never used to have the bridge problem before the package upgrades. Something must have changed. I must say that you only notice the brigde issue if you are restarting the service at the command line. Included with some changes. There were some places that were using /var/run/$NAME.pid We have to take a closer look because I think the pidfile is created by the daemon itself not by start-stop-daemon.
