[Bug 1426213] [NEW] package libgl1-mesa-glx 10.3.2-0ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: 65.8474:subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2015-02-26 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

On upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 caused everything
to fail. What I did to fix was run:

sudo dpkg --force-all --configure libgl1-mesa-glx

but it gave me an error that it couldn't delete /etc/ati because it was
a directory. Deleted that directory, tried again, worked. Continued
with:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

and all seems well now.

[Bug 1257879] [NEW] HP Chromebook Touchpad broken in 3.11.0-14 kernel

2013-12-04 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

On upgrading from linux-image-3.11.0-13-generic to linux-
image-3.11.0-14-generic, the touchpad on the new HP Chromebook 14

[Bug 1067700] [NEW] Sound Settings crashes when USB audio mixer selected as input

2012-10-17 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

This bug is a regression, I think; I was having this same problem before
upgrading to 12.10, then installed a patched version of some file (can't
remember which, and can't find the old bug report, sadly). Now with the
upgrade, when opening Sound Settings and selecting my Alesis Multimix
USB mixer, the dialog crashes with the following in syslog:

gnome-control-c[4009]: segfault at 7fffa3efcd48 ip 7f56af59e9f2 sp
7fffa3efcc10 error 6 in libc-2.15.so[7f56af556000+1b5000]

If I try setting the mixer as default use pacmd, Sound Settings crashes
on opening.

[Bug 938624] Re: unable to open launcher using nvidia driver

2012-04-04 Thread NoahY
Nope, worse now, or maybe just varies - it doesn't even let me log in
with 295.33

If I switch to a console quick enough, I can avoid the freeze, but it
still has a terrible time refreshing the display - top, for example,
shows itself as using 30-50% of the CPU!

2012-03-22 Thread NoahY
Thanks for taking a look at this.

Yes, it's reproducible every time. As soon as I click on the entry for
the mixer (Input tab, Record sound from PCM2900 Audio Codec Analog
Stereo), the Sound window crashes.

It is only since the Sound control panel changed to a new look.

Attached is the output of `pactl list cards`.

[Bug 938624] [NEW] unable to open launcher using nvidia driver

2012-02-22 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

Pressing the meta key causes the whole desktop to freeze, compiz use
100% cpu, etc. it actually tries to open the launcher, but ends up
wrecking the display. It's using the nvidia-current-updates driver:

[Bug 835812] [NEW] oversized grey box in notification panel for empathy

2011-08-27 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

I actually don't think this is solely an empathy bug, but it is
certainly related to empathy. There is a grey box below the networking
icon on the notification bar, and it turns to an empathy status icon
when empathy is opened. Maybe this is just a work-in-progress thing,
but it really gets in the way of, say, the search box in Firefox (see
screenshots).

[Bug 662619] Re: dash - search in the home screen doesn't seem to return any file or folder

Considering one can't access anything that's not on the sidebar without

don't know why, but I had recommends disabled, so Unity has been all but
useless for me until I found this bug.

[Bug 658069] Re: Empty files written over gvfs by some editors

2010-12-30 Thread NoahY
Still not working here, using gvfs-1.6.4-0ubuntu1.1 and Geany, saving
via sftp

Saving a remote file in Geany gives in the debug log:

[Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-09-16 Thread NoahY
 Please try 260.19.06:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=155137

Given all the warnings about borking Ubuntu by installing nvidia website
drivers (and the fact that I tried it and ended up borking Ubuntu), I'm
not sure if that is such sound advice...

Glad to hear some people know how to do such things, though :) I'll
wait patiently for a Maverick package.

Thanks for the hard work.

[Bug 629910] Re: nvidia 256.53 xorg-server 1.9.0 performance regression with antialiased text

2010-09-10 Thread NoahY
I added the ppa, Upgraded the following packages:
fglrx-modaliases (2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4) to 2:8.762-0ubuntu0sarvatt
intel-gpu-tools (1.0.2+git20100324-0ubuntu1) to
1.0.2+git20100830+c935c60-0ubuntu0sarvatt
nvidia-current (256.53-0ubuntu2) to 260.19.04-0ubuntu0~xup2
nvidia-current-modaliases (256.53-0ubuntu2) to 260.19.04-0ubuntu0~xup2
nvidia-settings (256.53-0ubuntu1) to 260.19.04-0ubuntu0sarvatt

and switched back the font settings to Subpixel Smoothing (LCDs),
and...

the problem hasn't gone away. There is still a clear speed drop in,
say, simply scrolling text in the command prompt.

then disappears. The printer makes noise for a second, then goes back
to sleep.

I am assuming you meant hl1250. The hl1250 driver seems to work, pdf
printout is fine.

Downloading the driver from here:

and installing it manually allows the printer to print pdf again.

Oh, no, cancel that... it printed, but just gave a PCL XL error
IllegalTag

Selecting Brother 2040 as the driver works, prints PDF files correctly.

[Bug 594639] Re: Rendering gets stuck

2010-08-01 Thread NoahY
I can confirm this same error, rendering to ogg/theora with default
settings. It begins by rendering fine, counting down from about 15
minutes, then at about 3+ minutes left, the progress bar stops, the bar
on the timeline stops moving, and the time remaining starts counting up.
The output file size also continues increasing, but it never finishes :)

[Bug 570027] [NEW] Brother HL-2170W printer driver won't print pdf or ps

2010-04-26 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups

Simple to reproduce:

1) plug in HL-2170W
2) install default printer driver

I changed the driver to Brother HL-2060 Foomatic/ljet4 and it prints the
PDF or ps file no problem.

[Bug 558904] Re: gstreamer no longer playing nonfree media files

2010-04-19 Thread NoahY
Okay, I somehow fixed it... first I deleted (moved) all gstreamer files
I could find on the system, then purged all of the gstreamer packages
using dpkg --force-all --purge and then reinstalled them. That didn't
work right away, but then I found out that it was only that one user who
had a problem, so I removed the ~/.gstreamer-0.10 folder (which I had
done previously to no avail) and when it rebuilt the database, all was
well.

Thanks for the help, sorry to be a bother.

[Bug 562544] [NEW] using Del key to delete files inhibits keyboard typing and window placement

2010-04-13 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Sometimes when I use the Del key to delete a file in nautilus, I am
thereafter unable to type anything on the keyboard, access the right
click menu, move a window on the desktop, or access the main (start)
menu. I am able to open a file by double-clicking, min/max windows,
highlight text in text boxes, etc. I am trying now to repeat it, but it
seems only to happen on occasion. I am afraid I can't figure out what
triggers it, apart from saying that the Del key sometimes causes this
behaviour. The only way I have found to regain control is by
CTRL+ALT+F1 and then CTRL+ALT+F7 back to the gui.

[Bug 558904] [NEW] gstreamer no longer playing nonfree media files

2010-04-08 Thread NoahY
Public bug reported:

I've never had a problem with playing restricted formats in Ubuntu,
until upgrading to Lucid development branch. Not sure what happened,
but now when I click on an mp4 or flv video in nautilus, it opens up
totem and asks whether I would like to search for a suitable codec. I
let it search, and it finds nothing, so it starts playing the audio
only. At first, even mplayer and vlc would also no longer play the
files. mplayer gave an error on startup as follows:

mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libopencore-amrnb.so.0:
wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32

So, I built libopencore-amrnb0 from source and installed it and now
mplayer and vlc are playing the videos fine. Totem still refuses to
recognize the videos. I assume I've done something to bork my system,
but I would appreciate any input or suggestions for further debugging
this problem.

Thanks to everyone for their work.
