I'm trying to say that if you're still experiencing this issue and you have updated past Oneiric (11.10) this is NOT the same bug. postgres was in the removal blacklist due to Bug 871893. Fix released for 871893 in Oneiric Updates. Alright, that seems fair. I'd guess much like you guessed that the rest came from failed connection attempts during that period where the network was unavailable. Re: [Bug 1245666] Re: Pidgin is creating zombies
There has not (to the best of my knowledge) been any formal response from the maintainers regarding a fix. The initial report in Pidgin's tracker ( https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/15617) hasn't been touched in a while. The developers seem to be at least semi-present in irc, so that may be an option. I'm unsure as to how strongly the dropped connections are related to the abundance of zombie processes. Hypothetically, zombie processes shouldn't negatively impact stability and only use minimal amounts of memory space. Minimal amounts of memory however may add up significantly with over 1k process descriptors still held in system memory. I might, just because this ticket has been sitting here stagnant for so long, err on the side of caution and report the repeatedly dropped connections as a new bug. It's easier to merge two reports together down the line then it is to separate one issue from another. On Apr 27, 2015 5:55 PM, StevenD57 1245...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: I am running ubuntu 14.04 and pidgin 2.10.11 and I currently have 1539 zombie processes from pidgin after an uptime of 72 days. The ability to support ptrace rules was recently added to apparmor. It looks like we're trying to enforce ptrace rules that either aren't there, or that are improperly configured. xlockmore is dead upstream and was removed from the Debian repositories in 2012. This is a pretty common issue, which can generally be fixed by removing your mergelist and then running apt-get update to generate a new one. The version of chromium published in Trusty is 33.0.1750.152. Chrome 35 is available through the Dev channel or through Canary builds, both of which are developed and maintained in tandem by Google and The Chromium Projects. Since you are using a version that isn't available through the Ubuntu repositories, the correct place to report this would be on Chromium's bug tracker http://www.crbug.com. Before you will be able to report the issue you'll need to sign in with a google account. If once you open the bug upstream you are requested to move it back down here, open a new bug against chromium-browser and cite the upstream bug in the new report. [Bug 1301451] Re: System doesn't start correct if it has a separate /usr filesystem
Systemd (through the auspices of the linux system itself) require that /usr be present and mounted by the time it is started. The easiest way to circumvent this issue (other than just moving /usr back to the rootfs) is to create an initramfs that essentially will hide from the system that /usr is split off and not pre-mounted. Systemd isn't the issue here, there isn't a way to reliably bring up a modern system with an empty /usr. There is little hope that this will be supported so your best bet will be creating an initramfs that will mount /usr on top of / before init is started. See http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd /separate-usr-is-broken/ for some more information on this issue and the reasons its pretty unlikely to be fixed. Going to set this as affecting systemd and wait for someone else to make the call on whether this really constitutes a bug. ** Package changed: ubuntu = systemd (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301451 Title: System doesn't start correct if it has a separate /usr filesystem To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1301451/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1292099] Re: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 will not install Google Chrome through Ubuntu Software Center
It seems pretty unlikely that Gnome has much if anything to do with this. The issue occurred when installing the package through the Ubuntu software center, so that should probably be the focus of this bug report. In the dialog box that comes up when the operation fails, there should be a option labeled details. Add the output from that screen to this report and set it back to new. The installation details will give us a better idea of what part of the installation is failing and will allow us to redirect this bug to the correct package. ** Project changed: ubuntu-gnome = software-center (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292099 Title: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 will not install Google Chrome through Ubuntu Software Center To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/1292099/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1292099] Re: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 will not install Google Chrome through Ubuntu Software Center
It looks like the policy kit auth agent either isn't being started with your other startup applications or is otherwise unavailable. There's a utility named Startup Applications that will give you a list of applications that are automatically started. Somewhere on that list should be PolicyKit Authentication Agent. If it isn't checked as enabled, enable it, and if it isn't there add it. I think the startup command should be usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome- authentication-agent-1. If that addresses the issue, mark this bug as invalid. [Bug 1287124] Re: memory leak in evince: using gigabytes of ram when selecting text
Please collect and attach Valgrind forensics using the method detailed here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind. These will allow us to see specifically what the issue is. Before being able to collect Valgrind forensics you will need to install the debug symbols for evince if you don't currently have those installed (sudo apt-get install evince-dbg). Once you've done that, set the status here back to new, and we'll take a look at the logs. Thanks. ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287124 Title: memory leak in evince: using gigabytes of ram when selecting text To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1287124/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1286590] Re: Installed version of linux_firmware is 1.79.9, but Software Updater is asking to install 1.79.11. What?
There is a version 1.79.9 of linux-firmware. It is the version that was originally included with Precise, and can be found here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/1.79.9. 1.79.10 is an update to 1.79.9, providing a few additional features and closing a few bugs (a full change log can be viewed here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/1.79.10). 1.79.10 is one version newer than 1.79.9, and is the version currently available for Precise. It's recommended that you update to 1.79.10 as it provides some important stability improvements. While 1.79.11 is listed as the latest upload, it isn't available yet. It's still being tested and worked on and can be found in the proposed repository. When it is fully tested and ready for release it will be moved to the Updates repo and will show up in the update manager as an available update. In summary, there isn't anything wrong with your computer, there is no security risk and no reason to think you've been hacked or anything of the like. I can see where the version numbers and listed upload dates can be a bit confusing, there isn't any way from looking at the version numbers to tell what repository the package is available in. The version of linux-firmware that came with Precise is 1.79.9, and the currently available one in Precise Updates is 1.79.10. 1.79.10 is a more recent version of linux-firmware than 1.79.9, and it is recommended that you do update to 1.79.10. The next update that will become available to you (after you update to 1.79.10) will be 1.79.11, which is currently being worked on. A package is first uploaded to proposed, so it can be tested by the community before being fully released. It helps flush out bugs before having it be adopted by all users. Packages uploaded to the Proposed repository are not available to users unless they enable the proposed repository. If you wish to enable the proposed repository (acknowledging the packages provided in proposed may be less stable than those provided in the other repositories), there are instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed. I hope this has helped address your concerns, as this isn't a bug I'm going to set this to invalid. Feel free to contact me through Launchpad if you have any other questions or concerns about this or any other issue. ~Quinn Balazs ** Changed in: linux-firmware (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286590 Title: Installed version of linux_firmware is 1.79.9, but Software Updater is asking to install 1.79.11.
