[ubuntu-in] Firefox 3 in beta version

2008-08-18 Thread Rajib Biswas
Hi,

Installed Ubuntu 8.04 on 17/8/2008. I opened Firefox to see that it is
still in version 3.0 b5 (beta 5). Why so? The stable release 3.0 of Firefox
was was out on July. The current version is 3.01. But even after updating my
Firefox through update manager, it is still in the beta version. Can anyone
tell me the reason?

[ubuntu-in] Upgrading from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10

2007-12-03 Thread Rajib Biswas
Hey,

Both the previous replies to my post referred to upgrading through download
method. But that will add tremendously to my broadband bills. I have already
received my brand new Ubuntu 7.10 live CD. Can I upgrade from this CD? As
far as I have gone, it has only the option of fresh install. I know that I
can upgrade through through the Alternate Install CD. But can I upgrade from
the supplied live CD?

[ubuntu-in] Upgrading from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10

2007-11-24 Thread Rajib Biswas
Hi,

Can you please give me a step by step guide to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 to
7.10 using the command line interface? The graphical method using update
manager or synaptic package manager just hangs my system. I can't afford to
go for fresh install as I will lose valuable data.

[ubuntu-in] unable to install ubunt 7.04 on my system

2007-09-29 Thread Rajib Biswas
Alternate install CD is the installation CD which cannot operate as a
live CD. The regular CD has dual function, it can operate both as a live
CD and also as an installation CD. The regular CD requires more RAM than
the alternate CD. If you are unable to get the alternate CD, than try
installing from the regular CD after increasing your RAM.

It seems that in your modem, the password is set within the broadband modem,
as according to you, Windows do not require any dialing and connection is
made automatically. If this is the case, go to System > Administration >
Network
Just provide the I.P. address, Subnet mask, Gateway, Primary DNS & Secondary
DNS as provided by BSNL authority. Restart the service. You are done.

Dear Alok,

Yes I know what google does and what google is. Searching with your keywords
produced about *269,000 *results and the first few results provided links to
software which migrates foxpro database to MySQL database. My requirement is
to convert my code and not the database. Perhaps you can be more specific
and tell me which of these *269,000 *results is relevant for me.

Hi Alok & Amit,

Thanks for your suggestions. MySql, PostGRESql, or SQLite are OK. But my
question was whether I shall be able to port all my "Foxpro for DOS"
programs to linux platform. Is reverse engineering an option? Otherwise, I
have to rewrite all my projects. That is a tedious task.
I do not know about SQLite. What are its differences from MySQL?

[ubuntu-in] CD burning package

2007-08-24 Thread Rajib Biswas
Hi,

Please suggest me which package is best for CD writing. I want to create
data disk, VCD, audio CD, etc. In the windows environment, I was familiar
with NERO BURNING ROM. So it would be better for me to find a linux package
which has similar interface and functionality.

I have 384 MB RAM. So I agree with Amit that it may not be the issue. In the
command mode, the system gets updated really fast. I am afraid the subject
line of this message is different. I shall again place my problem in the
forum with proper subject so that many others can notice. Others may have
the same problem.

Hi Amit,

Nice to find you. I am really thrilled! Which area of Siliguri do you
belong? Where do you stay now? I am from Hakimpara. Hope to meet you in
person someday.

Right now the problem I am facing is that whenever I try to update my system
using the update manager (by clicking on the notification icon) my system
hangs. Though I can update my system through the terminal by the command
"sudo apt-get install", I still wonder why can't I do it in the graphical
mode? Is there any solution?
