[Bug 1695651] Re: GNOME Weather: "Forecast not available"

2021-06-01 Thread Sam_
Please note, Bugzilla is migrating to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME, therefore
no issues can be reported on Bugzilla.
May someone from Ubuntu-devs just upload the fix or why does it take four years
to clear this? Thanks.

[Bug 1789656] Re: Complete system freeze happening sporadically when running chromium

Since not using chromium there was no machine freeze at all.

[Bug 1789656] Re: ERROR:service_manager_context.cc

2018-08-31 Thread Sam_
Thanks for taking the time, regarding q1, no, I have a second profile without
starting 20 tabs and it never caused a system freeze.
Regarding q2, yes adblock plus and ip-domain-flag, but adblock is turned off
anyway on this specific profile with 20 tabs open on start.
The crux is it occurs sporadic, I have this profile open five days a week at
least five hours, but the system freeze occurs every two to three days.

Note bug #1655348

[Bug 1577476] Re: Firefox 46 is a mem-eater again

2018-06-27 Thread Sam_
Hi Paul,
thanks for taking the time.
In the meantime I've switched to chromium and I'm happy with it.
Currently using 16.04.4 LTS and just opened firefox 60.0.2 (64-Bit) with 20
Tabs.
Well, it is doing much better, at least the computer is still usable, but it
needs to be tested at least one day like this to find out if it increases RAM
usage every hour. Unfortunately no time for this now, maybe during holidays.

[Bug 1750583] Re: Broken panel and launcher - all black

Issue solved.
Solution:
Open Unity-plugin in CCSM.
Switch from no blur to active blur: the dash is clear - no broken graphics.
Move color from transparent up to 50 percent: all symbols in dash and launcher
appear.

[Bug 1750583] Re: Broken panel and launcher - all black

2018-04-03 Thread Sam_
I've just received a kernel update and graphics look a bit better.
But as one can see in the unity dash there is the login item upside down in the
background.
When I close the dash it is of course not there.

btw. the file size of compiz core.pb are the same in user and guest
account.

[Bug 1750583] Re: Broken panel and launcher - all black

2018-04-03 Thread Sam_
Khursid, thanks for the reply.
> Newer version Ubuntu doesn't support amd gpu

The link says:
Ubuntu 12.04.5 LTS (Linux kernel 3.13.0), Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and later
For the most recent ATI/AMD graphic cards supported by the Radeon driver, DPM
(Dynamic Power Management) should work automatically without additional steps.

Where does it say no support of amd gpu?
And if, would that actually mean one needs to buy a different brand of graphics
card?

Referring to bug reports, I experienced no crashes, no segfaults, no
compiz issues, nothing disappeared e.g. the launcher, only this broken
graphics only on Unity items, as my last screenshot was supposed to
show. As mentioned in the opening post, other applications like Nautilus
or anything else except Unity items are fine.

Referring to your other suggestions and the link to 'ask ubuntu' these are
quote:
"Following info is obsolete"

And this bug report says the mesa issue is fixed.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1735594

Xorg.log was already attached when uploading the bug report.

In addition the already uploaded file apt-history says:
libegl1-mesa:amd64 (17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.4, 17.2.8-0ubuntu0~16.04.1)

Thank you, but I don't need performance tweaks, I'd rather like this bug to be
fixed.
I did not make any changes to my system, only regular updating and it messed up
my unity graphics on an LTS - no more no less.

different hardware.
So, your first idea that it is a graphics driver issue seems obvious.

2018-02-21 Thread Sam_
Thanks for the reply, icon theme is awoken, but that doesn't matter I've
tested others and nothing changed. Actually the issues only ocur with
Unity parts, for example also the logout, shutdown dialogs are puzzled
black and white. But Nautilus and other applications are looking fine.

There have been updates of radeon driver, unity and compiz, I'm not
hundred percent sure, but the broken panel occured after unity and
compiz updates.

[Bug 1750583] [NEW] Broken panel and launcher - all black

2018-02-20 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Since latest update all symbols at the launcher and search panel are black.
(screenshot)
All other applications and menues are fine, also the menues from
unity-panel-service are ok.
Changing the theme didn't help, restart of desktop or computer also didn't help.

[Bug 1655348] Re: gpu-manager Error: can't open /lib/modules/

2017-07-03 Thread Sam_
Now complete freeze with updated 4.8.0-58-generic, hard shutdown, boot
4.8.0-56-generic, running now 30 minutes without freeze.
It happens so sporadic which makes it almost impossible to find the trigger.

Thanks for the advise. There is no kern.0.log, but kern.log.1, maybe you
meant xorg.0.log (all attached)

Just had two complete freezes with an updated kernel linux-
image-4.8.0-56-generic 4.8.0-56.61~16.04.1 amd64. Switch to console and
REISUB didn't work thus hard shutdown. I've booted with 4.8.0-54 and no
freeze since one hour.

[Bug 1692235] Re: Syntax error in .postinst - broken package

2017-05-23 Thread Sam_
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1692181 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1692181

I didn't make it a dup because the first was about grub-efi-amd64 and
different syntax error.

[Bug 1692235] [NEW] Syntax error in .postinst - broken package

2017-05-20 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Apport doesn't allow the upload, because it's a known error.
Since I never had an issue I'd like to report the multiple syntax errors in the
.postinst file of grub-pc.
Terminal output excerpt:
sudo apt upgrade
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Setting up grub-pc (2.02~beta2-36ubuntu3.10) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst: line 703: syntax error near unexpected
token `fi'
dpkg: error processing package grub-pc (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 grub-pc
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I've started to fix grub-pc.postinst step by step, because after
removing the 'fi' in line 703 there occur more and more til line 740,
e.g. semicolons, brackets and at the end it says unexpected end of file,
which I was unable to fix, original it says exit 0. I've tried several
inputs, looked at examples of other .postinst files, but nothing worked.

Renaming /var/lib/dpkg/info/grub-pc.postinst and reinstalling grub-pc
didn't help.

dpkg --configure -a
and
dpkg-reconfigure
didn't help.

It would be nice if someone could fix the syntax. Thanks!

[Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown

2017-02-25 Thread Sam_
Christopher, I'm aware on how to change the status, as said, I'd wanted
to test 4.8 again to make sure it wasn't a coincidence. Finally also the
updated hwe-stack of 4.8 works as expected. Thanks for your work. This
bug was never invalid, 4.4 was always an issue which 4.8-hwe fixed.

[Bug 1655348] Re: gpu-manager Error: can't open /lib/modules/

2017-01-24 Thread Sam_
Reopen.
Few minutes ago complete freeze again. Nothing works except hard power off.
Every time there is chromium open and firefox closed.
Firefox freezes only itself, but not the whole system.

Yesterday, I stressed with two chromium profiles, one had 20 tabs open,
the other watching videos. Result, no freeze.

[Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown

2017-01-08 Thread Sam_
Still the same with 4.4.0-59.80 - after 1½ minutes the fan starts, temperature
moves from 42 to 24° then appears shutdown dialog and computer turns off.
I need to run mainline kernel otherwise I wouldn't be able to proceed updates.
Mainline kernels make no trouble at all.

[Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown

2016-12-20 Thread Sam_
When I boot with kernel 4.9.0-040900rc6 there is no issue. It's the only
one I can boot and the system doesn't start the fan and shuts down after
short time.

[Bug 1643341] Re: Unexpected shutdown

2016-12-19 Thread Sam_
Tested Zesty daily and the fan started immediately after boot. When I do
nothing the system shuts down shortly after it enters the desktop.

But I found out following: I can reproduce it with Zesty daily and Xenial
4.4.0-57.78 kernel.
The fan is on after boot. As soon as I enter the Desktop, I press FN+F12 which
puts the system in sleep mode and the fan stops.
(In German the manual translates it with "toggle energy savings mode", in
English it says "sleep toggle".)
After a waiting moment I press the power button, it enters the desktop (in
Xenial after login) and the fan doesn't start again, System works fine.

Obviously kernel 4.9.0-040900rc6 does not trigger this. After a cold
start it proceeds without ever running the fan and shutdown.

[Bug 923876] Re: FR: Limit and clean-up kernel images and headers automatically

2016-07-23 Thread Sam_
I'm still on 14.04 and will upgrade to 16.04 when the offer arrives.
I still purge older kernel manually via terminal since they don't get removed
automatically.
@pxtl I'd recommend to open a new bug with a hint to this one.

[Bug 1471222] Re: Truncated preferences

2015-07-12 Thread Sam_
Thank you for the hint.
There was already comment and reply.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1141031#c19

Obviously it's intended that some dialog windows aren't resizable, hence
not usable - what a joke.

[Bug 1471822] [NEW] Firefox memory eater freezing

2015-07-06 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Open about 40 tabs and pin them, plus two tabs unpinned.
Every session those tabs are kept and reopened.
Firefox uses 2,3 GB RAM and freezes. (screenshot of conky)

I need to close firefox and shut down the machine after every session
because after suspend and having firefox left open it is unusable.

[Bug 1445829] Re: No video playback possible - side pane empty

2015-04-21 Thread Sam_
Hi Nicolas,
the ppa version works fine.
The video list is now instantly displayed after opening totem, maybe it was the
cache, the computer wasn't in use for a while.
The Arte website is not slow, I'm able to watch movies flawless via firefox.

I assume it was correct to remove the totem-plugin-arte before installing it
from the ppa.
When the patched totem-plugin-arte is back in Ubuntu repo I need to remove the
one from ppa before installing it, right?

[Bug 1445829] Re: No video playback possible - side pane empty

2015-04-20 Thread Sam_
Thanks for the reply Nicolas.
In the meantime I've managed it so far to display arte tv previews in the side
pane. I had to click a few times on the entry Arte+7 under view and wait a bit
until they load.

Double click on a preview results in error of url extraction. (screenshot)
Right click to open the link in browser results in wrong url
[http://www.arte.tvhttp//www.arte.tv/guide/de/033948-000/360-geo-reportage?autoplay=1].
 (screenshot)

Terminal outputs are a few of gtk, but only one time about arte:
~$ totem

visible child GtkScrollbar 0x7f2a478e6ef0 is not mapped

[Bug 934189] Re: desktop focus interferes with conky

2015-04-13 Thread Sam_
@#15 many thanks for this workaround. Finally the desktop is focused as
expected.

** Description changed:

  Have conky specs:
  own_window yes
  own_window_class Conky
  own_window_type normal
  own_window_transparent yes
  own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

Open an application (e.g. gedit or system-settings) and close it again,
desktop doesn't automatically take focus.
User needs to left click on conky window to focus desktop in order to invoke
shortcuts to switch workspaces (ctrl+alt+arrow) or alt+f2.
  own_window_type desktop doesn't help.

Alternativeley open and close the dash with super allows shortcuts to
  switch workspaces.

After latest updates above workarounds don't help any longer.
Now there is no option to make shortcuts invoke their functions.

  ## This was fixed in Oneiric bug 871277 #7.
  ## Monitoring bug 953089 since the description of 4) meets exactly latest
behaviour here, except 'If no program is visible on the screen'.

[Bug 1417755] [NEW] Firefox massive leaks and slows the system

2015-02-03 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

There're two profiles, running as independent process. One of them with usually
40 tabs open starts with mem usage of about 32-38 % and stays in this range.
Since the last update it leaks slowly over time to more then 60% and slows in
fact the system. (screenshot from conky)

[Bug 1370454] [NEW] Default UA string denies videos from youtube

2014-09-17 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Reproducable with activated or deactivated adobe-flash, the attempt to watch a
video on youtube, results in an error occurred .. try it later.
Empty the cache and possibly cookies, change the default to a user defined UA
string, (example screenshot), result: videos start flawless.
e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEvpnKRLDO4

All findings, such as right click on the blackwhite background to
report an error, or beeing forwarded to their faq resulted in exactly
zero solution. Obviously it's expected to use G.'s one and only
software.

Complete upgrade to 14.04 trusty LTS.
No longer spam in logfiles and wl still works after kernel updates.
Possibly a backport of bcmwl-kernel-source could help 12.04.

[Bug 1357337] [NEW] One day time divergence of day listed in sidebar and log content

2014-08-15 Thread Sam_
Public bug reported:

Open logviewer :$gnome-system-log

selecting Wednesday 13th of August presents log file from Thursday 14th of
August
(screenshots attached)
Logviewer on a notebook, also upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04, shows same
