[Bug 2070020] Re: Lenovo dock no longer working after upgrade from 6.5.0-35 to 6.5.0-41

2024-06-28 Thread Smurphy
Confirming what Rober Neve said, 6.8.0 works fine for me.
In case you folks need a full journald output, I have it collected.
kernel boot message + following loading of the desktop created messages.

PS: Can login-now. Apparently I had 2 accounts at UbuntuOne which locked
my account. After they merged these, they unloeckd it.

Ok - last test.
While connected to the alpine car device, and disconnecting the Bluetooth on
the phone manually, I can avoid the repetitive 1 bug showing up.

[Bug 1543960] Re: virtual keyboard inserts endless "1" in text field

2016-02-12 Thread Smurphy
I actually did some more tests.
While paired with the Car unit, everything is fine (Note that I pair the phone
Handsfree and audio capability). When I power off the car unit and didn't
previously disable the pairing manually (Means the phone thinks it is still
paired), that behavior starts.
All text-fields will return repetitive 1 until the text-field size is reached
(Probably).
The car Device is a Alpine INE-W990BT
(http://www.alpine.co.uk/p/Products/navigation-systems6/ine-w990bt).
I have not yet tested disabling manually the Bluetooth from the phone while
connected to the car unit. Will do that (but can't garantee it will be this
week though -> On travel).

2013-05-30 Thread Smurphy
I can confirm that I didn't have to compile the kernel/driver for it to
recognize that network chip.
So yes - the OOB provided driver works for me - version 3.8.0-22.33 - see below.

I am using the stock kernel from ubuntu.

If you tell me where to get 3.8.0-20 directly, I can.
It is not in the repositories. However, I definitely confirm that the driver of

Just checked the 3.8.0-22 source, and according to the
linux_3.8.0-22.33.diff.gz file, the tg3.c is patched to support the

The grub will not answer to an held down shift-key as the keyboard mode is
changed.
You have to shutdown the mac mini, and restart it. warm-boot won't work.

Note that I am using the plain KUbuntu 13.04 image. Not the amd64+mac
image.

[Bug 550288] Re: bluez fails to discover mx5000 keyboard and mouse

2010-10-20 Thread Smurphy
Last addition.
When adding the Bluetooth Dongle provided by Logitech, all keys and extra stuff
of the leyboard works (except the LCD screen - but that's not a requirement).

So - any chance in getting the Kernel to recognize the MX5500 MX Revolution
with Mouse MX Revolution, without the logitech Bluetooth Dongle ? It should
IMHO not make a difference, which device we use.
At least, is there somewhere the possibility to override the keyboard/mouse
type during bluetooth initialization ?

[Bug 550288] Re: bluez fails to discover mx5000 keyboard and mouse

2010-10-19 Thread Smurphy
Having the same issue. Only that mine may be a little bit more complex.
Running a Mac Mini 4,1 (last one available) with KUbuntu. And - because I
didn't want to use any more USB Ports, I also got the MX5500 Keyboard/Mouse
combination.

So - setup is simple: Mac Mini builtin bluetooth communication device, and
MX5500 hooked up to it.
Now - both are recognized as HID devices (Keyboard and mouse).
But - I only have basic functionality on both. Means:
1. The keyboard only has the standard keys to run on (at least I can type).
Nothing else (Multimedia keys etc. are running).
2. The mouse only has Left/Right buttons, and mouse function. Nothing else.
Roll-function disabled, all supp. keys are disabled as well.

Hence - it's not really usable.
For information - running Maverick 10.10 64Bit version here, latest updates
applied.
At least under Mac OS-X I can use the middle Mouse Roll button.

Another addition. Using xev to try to localize all the supplementary
buttons won't work. xev won't show anything if pushing any of the other
buttons on the mouse.

C'mon folks - I can't be the only one having this issue

Ther Mac Mini is the perfect computer, and has bluetooth integrated. Why
can't I use that keyboard normally with it ?

[Bug 481219] [NEW] Use extra mouse buttons in configuration of keybindings

2009-11-12 Thread Smurphy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

a very nice way to switch desktops is to use the extra Mouse Buttons
(e.g. Mouse button 4 to switch to the desktop on the left, and 5 to
Switch over to the Desktop on the right). This is very handy as you
don't have to take your hand off the mouse to switch to the next
desktop.

The configuration interface only allows keyboard shortcuts. Why not
allow Mouse Buttons to be taken ? at least all except button 1, 2 and 3.

[Bug 323066] Re: Intrepid - MX700 Cordless Desktop - Multimedia Key functionality not detected

2009-08-09 Thread Smurphy
Answers:

1. the minimum Step to encounter the problem: Install KUbuntu
2. I expected the Extra keys (Audio Up/Down, next/previous song etc. to work).
3. The actual behavior isn't existent. All extra keys on that keyboard are not
recognized under X. xev doesn't return anything on the CLI and under X. So any
extra configuration I can do won't bring anything as long as the kernel does
not return any event on key-press.

Note that on the MX700 Combo, all extra keys are ignored by the kernel.
Any extra debugging you want ?

[Bug 399173] [NEW] Multimedia keys on Cordless Desktop Optical not working

2009-07-14 Thread Smurphy
Public bug reported:

Since upgrading to KUbuntu 8.10, 9.04 and 9.10betas (all instances), the
MX700 Logitech Cordless Desktop worked less and less. In KUbuntu 8.10 I
was still able to configure the Multimedia Keys using a manual method
(Check http://stargate.solsys.org/mod.php?mod=faqop=viewfaq_id=110).
Since KUbuntu 9.04 - not even that works anymore.

Going to console - and checking all Details with sudo showkey -s|-k return
absolutely no result with all Multimedia Keys.
Starting xev under X/KDE - stays empty too.

I Added the dmesg output - to produce a little data - I unplugged the
logitech receiver to see what is detected by the kernel. Also - check
all attached files (By name).

System description:

2009-02-19 Thread Smurphy
OK - I don't have any more issues - and I have redone the entire X stuff - by
removing and reinstallation all the X stuff.
My xorg.conf looks like this:

Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
EndSection

Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection

Section Screen
Identifier Default Screen
Monitor Configured Monitor
Device Configured Video Device
EndSection

which is plain straigt, and I have no issues on any hardware (one 10/2006 and
one 04/2008) - so 2 different hardware revisions.
Works nice on both.
Ah yes - Using KDE 4.2 over here

[Bug 323066] [NEW] Intrepid - MX700 Cordless Desktop - Multimedia Key functionality not detected

2009-01-30 Thread Smurphy
Public bug reported:

Using a Logitech Cordless Desktop MX700. All Multimedia Function keys are
ignored, e.g. not detected.
In hardy - it still worked if under X (KDE 3.5.x) I did not use the evdev
driver. In intrepid, even if not using the evdev driver, it doesn't.

The Mouse is working OK in fallback mode - e.g. only the default buttons are
recognized.
If unplugging and replugging while under X , the Cordless Desktop Receiver,
almost all Multimedia Keys are working. But not all.

I attached the xorg.0.log file, with the content of informations during the
unplugging and replugging.
dmesg, lsusb and lspci also attached.

- I have tested the kernel proposed in Bug #281993 (regression fix for
Microsoft Keyboards). Didn't work.
- I had the same issue in Hardy when letting the Keyboard running using the
evdev Driver. When disabling it and configuring the Keyboard/Mouse Manually, it
worked. The configurations that worked are documented here:
 http://stargate.solsys.org/mod.php?mod=faqop=extlisttopicid=7expand=yes#111
 http://stargate.solsys.org/mod.php?mod=faqop=extlisttopicid=7expand=yes#110
As you can see the keyboard and mouse drivers had to be explicitely used.

As proposed in Bug: 321740 I tried to check the showkey -s / -k commands
on the console, showed up absolutely nothing. Kept staying empty. Not
difference here even after replugging the Cordless Desktop Receiver.

Kernel Version:
 - Linux firebird 2.6.27-11-generic #1 SMP Wed Jan 28 00:02:01 UTC 2009 i686
GNU/Linux
 - Ubuntu 2.6.27-11.26-generic

[Bug 323066] Re: Intrepid - MX700 Cordless Desktop - Multimedia Key functionality not detected

2009-01-30 Thread Smurphy
Just saw the following on the pages of http://keytouch.sourceforge.net/ :
When your keyboard is connected via USB you may have noticed that some extra
function keys don't work. Note that most keyboard files in keyTouch are for a
PS/2 connection and if a keyboard file is for a USB connection the name of the
keyboard file will contain (USB). But still even if you are using the right
keyboard file, some keys may not work. This is because the current USB input
driver in the Linux kernel does not allow us to get these keys working.
Currently I am modifying this driver so that we can get all keys working. This
modification will be applied to the Linux kernel.
So at the moment I recommend you to connect your keyboard via PS/2 and wait
for a new version of the USB input driver. I will also write a new version of
keyTouch that will work perfectly together with the new driver.
So yes - it's a Bug - and hopefully a new kernel version will fix it, and some
new keytouch keyboard files mainly done for USB.

IT is IMHO the same bug which affects both keyboards, as the same functionality
is affected.
I could of course open a new Bug - but I don't think it is different.

[Bug 321740] Re: Regression: Multimedia keys on LX710 stopped working

2009-01-28 Thread Smurphy
These 2 Bugs are not similar (Bug #182704 and Bug #182165) as they are
using the old Drivers, kdb/Corepointer etc. and not evdev. If I
configure my System to use the old Drivers - everything works as
expected. The Bug however here is directly related to evdev - as it does
not recognize the real capabilities of the attache keyboard/mouse. And
I´d like to not having to fiddle with the configuration everytime I
install a system with a Cordless Desktop like keyboard. hence the Bugfix
request.

To the mouse - your mouse has 5 Buttons - with the extra buttons most
probably being shortcuts to Mouse-Wheel up/down. These do work also on
my Mouse. However - the other 3 Keys I have - Forward/Backward and Page
Down - are not working. Again - Extra keys/functions on the Keyboard and
the Mouse do not work.

And that - IMHO is exactly the same behavior as you describe on yours.

[Bug 292471] Re: Keytouch not working anymore in 8.10

[Bug 292471] Re: Keytouch not working anymore in 8.10

2009-01-28 Thread Smurphy
I did actually subscribe to Bug #281993 and tried all they have proposed. Even
the solution which works with the Microsoft Keyboards. It does not work with my
MX700 - so it's not the same bug.
It rather looks like this one: Bug 321740
where I also have uploaded some details and informations in that bug.
Problem is - that xev shows absolutely nothing.

One thing you can do - is actually unplug and replug (USB) the receiver
- and then suddenly many (but not all) of the Multimedia keys start
working again. So - IMHO something is not running clean here.

[Bug 281993] Re: [intrepid] REGRESSION: multimedia keys no longer working

2009-01-27 Thread Smurphy
I can confirm that the Logitech MX700 Cordless Desktop is not a Microsoft Like
Keyboard.
This kernel has not fixed it. Guess I'll open a new Bug for it - if I don't
find an open one.
I can use most of the Multimedia Keys though by just unplugging and re-plugging
the Cordless Desktop receiver after X has started.

Here is what the dmesg-output looks like when unplugging and replugging this
device.

[Bug 321740] Re: Regression: Multimedia keys on LX710 stopped working

2009-01-27 Thread Smurphy
You want this to be done before or after replugging the Cordless Receiver ?
I'll do it before replugging - as that's where it doesn't work. also - I use
kubuntu - anything I should killt here before doing it ?
gnome-settings-daemon is not used here.

With xev - all Multimedia keys, _ALL_ are not working. This includes:
Go, Back, User, F-Lock, E-Mail, Messenger-MSN, Webcam, Previous/Next Track,
Media Key, Volume Up/Down, PLay/Pause, Stop, iTouch, Search, Shopping,
Favorites and MyHome.

On the Mouse - Buttons 4, 5, 6 are not working.

So - it's a total loss of any non keyboard specific functionality. IMHO
the driver goes into fallback defaults mode.

[Bug 281993] Re: [intrepid] REGRESSION: multimedia keys no longer working

2009-01-09 Thread Smurphy
Just for the notes. I noticed, that when unplugging the Cordless receiver while
running under X - waiting 2 Secs, and replugging it, the system detects all
keys etc. as required, and the multimedia keys work.
So - this seems to be a workaround for the Cordless desktop MX700 and
eventually shows it's not the same bug.

Have tried whatever was proposed by clement ...
Using a Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 700 combination here. All Keys got screwed
as soon as I upgraded to Intrepid too.
Tried reverting all automations by Disabling hal in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file, recompiled the kernel modules (from the usbhid directory) - Attached the
output of the mac-mini dmesg, and the output of xorg.0.log.
Check the

(EE) Grab failed. Device already configured?

Messages in there. Seems it sees the devices configured, and disables these.
Anything I'm missing here ?

OK - I tried again - as I was able to reset the screen so it flickers again.
Problem - as soon as I attach gdb from the Command-line on the same machine -
the X-Server becomes unresponsive.
If I do it from a remote machine through ssh - using the keeptty and dumbSched

any more hints ? (I have until 12am today to check it out - after that I

Don't know if it helps though ...

as Dmitry pointed out - you can almost eliminate these effects by:
a. Disable Display power Management completely. Do this as Administrator AND
User.
b. Completely disable kpowersaved

Disabling a just as user didn't stop these effects to happen. Since I
also disabled it as Administrator - I barely had a black screen anymore
!

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 210153 ***

I had seen that Bug - but the fact here is that the Windows and Linux
Version differe. I though the Internal Engine of OpenOffice was the same
- and not linked to OS/System libraries. Bug 210153 referred to that
behaviour on different versions. we have here the same version affected
on different plattforms.

In that case - the documents can not be used on any system - which is actually
the force of OpenOffice right now - and the reason I use it.
Giving you the file is of no use ... Won't make a difference :D IMHO.

I can confirm this bug. My workaround is to have the max bandwidth
limited to 10MBit. This works.

an upgraded 200GB Harddisk running a Kubuntu 8.04 (Update from Kubuntu 7.10

[Bug 53856] Re: ClamAV-Daemon Out of date

2007-03-20 Thread Smurphy
But - what do we do about that then ?
Secutiry is definitly a concern on production systems - and as I remember -
dapper is also used for 6.06.1 LTS - which tells Long time support. This also
means - that all systems out there building up on that version will have
restricted security if the Admins are not able to fix that ...

IMHO - even if we do have an issue because of a changed API - this
doesn't give us an excuse to concern on a package - that is really
security focused. In that case we should really consider adapting all
packages linked to clamav...

Why do we have the dependency checkings in debian packages for anyway ?
To make sure dependencies are matched correctly...

I really opt for updated packages...

Anyone has a diff between both API's ? Would be interesting to see what
changed...
Maybe it's backwards compatible ...

The ubuntu feisty kernel does not boot the system with the error I did

So - yes this is a Bug - and this should be supported.
I have just added as a hint - that the Official Linux-Kernel 2.6.20.3 - as I
have recompiled it - did actually boot the system without blocking the S-ATA

[Bug 93478] Outdate Clamav Engine in Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS

2007-03-18 Thread Smurphy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: clamav

Hi Folks,

coming from the security side - I know how Important it is to update the Engine
in security products.
The issue is - that viruses tend to change the algorythm's they use to attack
systems. These force the anti-virus-software writers to update their Engines to
detect some of the bad code - which can not directly be detected by Signatures.
So - IMHO - it is definitly a Bug to not update the Engine of clamav in the
ubuntu LTS (Which is a Long-time support distribution).
I do not fall into Panic - don't worry - however if the Linux community wants
to stay on the safe side - we have to update these packages - and make sure
these are provided to all Ubuntu LTS users
I do update my Systems manually (Except this test-system) - but others don't !
Thx for keeping the updates done to the Camav Engine updated under Ubuntu LTS...
