2012-03-19 Thread Sune Keller
I've just tried switching to Gnome Shell on the same machine and with
the same user, and there I cannot reproduce it. When I switch back to
Unity, I can only reproduce it when I choose a theme, e.g. Ambiance, in
Appearance settings. This makes me think it is related to the window
decorator.

So what happens behind the lines when I switch to Gnome Shell, choose a

[Bug 267420] Re: gvfsd-archive crashed with SIGSEGV in __archive_check_magic()

2012-03-17 Thread Sune Keller
I can confirm that gvfsd-archive no longer chrashes with libarchive12
3.0.3-6ubuntu1 in Ubuntu precise/12.04.

$ apt-cache policy libarchive12
libarchive12:
  Installed: 3.0.3-6ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.0.3-6ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.0.3-6ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The archive stays mounted and I can stil browse it (i.e. in Nautilus it
shows under places and I can navigate its folder structure), but
_obviously_ the files cannot be found when trying to read them e.g. when
trying to copy a file or reading it in gedit. Unmounting the archive
afterwards also goes just fine.

I'm wondering, though, if from a user experience point of view it
wouldn't be smarter to either not allow deleting a mounted archive, or
to umount it when it is deleted.

tl;dr: Fixed.

2011-05-25 Thread Sune Keller
I have managed to reproduce this error again.

It seems to happen only when resuming from suspend, not on login. It
really does take a long time for my wifi card to reinitialize, so it
might be something with a timeout, as the error message indicates.
Whether or not you handle that in one way or another is a different
matter.

[Bug 779060] [NEW] Déjà Dup does not wait for network connection before attempting to back up to SSH location

2011-05-07 Thread Sune Keller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deja-dup

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

2) $ apt-cache policy deja-dup
deja-dup:

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expected Déjà Dup to perform its daily backup to my specified SSH
location.

4) Déjà Dup started the backup procedure before my network connection was up
(slow reinitialization of wifi when resuming from suspend). This resulted in
the following message:
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or
the network connection was broken.
This usually occurs when resuming from suspend at what time my wifi connection
usually takes 10-20 seconds to reinitialize.

[Bug 734737] [NEW] aptitude removes packages conflicting with requested package even if it was not downloaded

2011-03-14 Thread Sune Keller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aptitude

I had been testing connman and indicator-network but found that they did
not yet support WPA-Enterprise. Therefore I thought I could install
network-manager and network-manager-gnome. Forgetting that I was not
online, I ran sudo aptitude install network-manager-gnome, was asked
if I wanted to solve the conflict by removing the conflicting packages
(connman and indicator-network), answered yes and ended up with neither
of the packages installed. This happened because aptitude proceeded with
removing connman and indicator-network even though the packages to
replace it were not fetched.

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

2) $ apt-cache policy aptitude
aptitude:
  Installed: 0.6.3-3.2ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 0.6.3-3.2ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expected the packages to be either downloaded or the whole
transaction to be rolled back.

4) The transaction continued, and the conflicting packages (in this case
connman and indicator-network) were removed, although the packages which
were to replace them (network-manager and network-manager-gnome) had not
been downloaded. That way I was left without an internet connection
(except that the cache still contained connman and indicator-network so
I could install them again and fix the problem in another way).

[Bug 546650] Re: Unable to click items below notifications

2010-03-28 Thread Sune Keller
No point in making it clickable as many notifications don't have a
default action to be executed when clicked. Besides, the specification
of notify-osd, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/NotifyOSD#Interaction, explicitly
states that Other than that hover effect, bubbles should not directly
respond to input devices in any way.

Considering that notify-osd is already integrated in Ubuntu according to
that specification, there is no point in further discussing alternatives
in a bug report about a regression in living up to the specification.

[Bug 392153] Re: when Empathy is opened from Message Indicator, it appears below current window

2010-02-02 Thread Sune Keller
Does 2.29.3-1ubuntu1 also fix this problem: When raising the window, it
does indeed appear above other windows as expected, but it does not grab
focus -- which means that pressing Ctrl-Q to quit Empathy quits
whichever program is running in the background, e.g. Evolution with the
e-mail I was just reading?

[Bug 412783] Re: [IBM 2672M4G] suspend/resume failure when resuming after enabling KMS

2009-09-28 Thread Sune Keller
The problem persists. I was previously (i.e. in jaunty and for a while
in testing karmic) perfectly able to suspend and resume without
problems.

Could it have to do with the line:
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager suspend suspend: Welcome to
PulseAudio! Use help for usage information.
  success.

listed in the SleepLog.txt file?

It seems to pass through all the hooks with success, yet the hardware is
not turned off and resuming is not possible; the suspend led stays on,
no reaction to neither lid open, Fn button or power button (except
keeping it pressed 5 seconds for a brutal halt).

Is there anyone who can recreate this?

2009-04-16 Thread Sune Keller
The issue still occurs, it happens on every resume from suspend.
It's worth noting that my built-in LCD display comes back to life as usual, and
that I normally need the radeon-off quirk (which uses a tool called
radeontool) to get my built-in display to be turned _off_ at suspend.

[Bug 357371] [NEW] HTML images cannot be scaled to more than 100 px (if that measure is chosen).

2009-04-07 Thread Sune Keller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

2) apt-cache policy evolution
evolution:
  Installed: 2.26.0-0ubuntu2

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.24.3-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com intrepid-updates/main Packages

3) I expected to be able to scale an inserted image to a custom width
(or height) in pixels larger than 100, say 640.

4) Instead, the number inputs allow only numbers in the interval
[0;100], and any attempt to type in a larger number fails by it being
capped to 100.

I guess this will be marked as wish list, but it's a feature that
appears to be there and isn't - rather confusing.

[Bug 345659] Re: Failure to resume from suspend with HP LP2475w monitor set as only display attached to a ThinkPad X32

2009-03-30 Thread Sune Keller
Here is the information gathered, one piece at a time:

Did the machine break while going to sleep or waking up?
When waking up. The machine, a Thinkpad X32, took the usual time to suspend and
ended in a suspended state where the hard disk, fan and other power consuming
devices were off.

Is it reproducible?
Yes, though it seems to occur more often when the machine has been suspended
for a longer time (hours). Suspend was always performed using the menu option
in the fast-user-switch-applet.

Did it work before?
Suspend has worked before with the same machine, but this problem is rather
persistent.
$ cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 2.6.28-11.38-generic

Do you end up with flashing caps-lock or similar?
No, no panic.

I suspect it might very well be related to my graphics card, since it is not a
very powerful one, and the screen resolution it is asked to output (1920x1200)
is a little more than the maximum resolution of the built-in 12 LCD screen
(1024x768).

[Bug 346345] [NEW] Timestamp for pidgin indications does not respect locale

2009-03-21 Thread Sune Keller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-applet

1) $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

2) $ apt-cache policy indicator-applet
indicator-applet:
  Installed: 0.1.3-0ubuntu1

  Version table:
 *** 0.1.3-0ubuntu1 0

3) I expected the time stamp next to the indication of a new IM in
pidgin to be in my chosen locale (24h clock), i.e. 14:33

4) The time stamp was in 12h clock format, i.e. 2:33

In Pidgin, timestamps are shown in regular 24h format, like you would
get from running date +%H:%M:%S in your preferred terminal. The same
goes for timestamps in all other applications, and this is why I believe
the fault is with indicator-applet. Please change package if this
actually affects pidgin, not indicator-applet.

[Bug 289599] Re: usb-creator does not work with usb/ide disk enclosure

2009-01-28 Thread Sune Keller
I can confirm this on jaunty. Patching usb-creator makes it add my usb/ide
enclosure disk to the list of possible install destinations.
storage.removable is likewise false for my device.

lsusb gives:
Bus 004 Device 004: ID 067b:3507 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL3507 ATAPI6
Bridge

[Bug 134238] Re: Please re-enable build of s2ram binary

2008-09-10 Thread Sune Keller
The following is the case on my IBM ThinkPad X32 running Intrepid Ibex
on September 10th:

I couldn't suspend with pm-suspend but it worked with pm-suspend-hybrid and
pm-hibernate. Also, the suspend option had gone missing from my Gnome Power
Manager menu.
pm-is-supported --suspend failed while --hibernate and --suspend-hybrid
succeeded.
After some investigation I found that the reason was that
/usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions chose to try and use uswsusp methods in general
(s2disk, s2both, s2ram) for the various suspend functions because of the
presence of s2disk:

# Try userspace software suspend
if [ -c /dev/snapshot ] command_exists s2disk ; then
SLEEP_MODULE=uswsusp
fi

Now s2ram doesn't come with uswsusp any longer, so later on the command will
not succeed and the check needs to be altered.

Removing uswsusp fixed this problem for me, because
/usr/lib/pm-utils/pm-functions chose the default kernel method for suspend
instead now that s2disk didn't exist any longer, and now it works fine for me.
Gnome Power Manager still doesn't show the suspend command in its menu, but
that might show up after a reboot.
uname -a yields Linux skx 2.6.27-2-generic #1 SMP Thu Aug 28 17:20:02 UTC 2008
i686 GNU/Linux for what it's worth.

Even with the quirks set correctly, if /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/20video isn't
updated to react on it.
