[Bug 851024] [NEW] When login into Unity 3d, no panels are visible except for what appears to be a maximized nautilus

2011-09-15 Thread Tribaal
Public bug reported:

The nautilus window itself is not visible, but its title bar is visible
(including a fully functional menu). The close/maximize/minimize buttons
are not displayed. This behavior started about 5h ago, I can
unfortunately cannot remember what came in the last update I applied.
Logging in with the same user on the same machine had unity work
perfectly before.

Using previously defined shortcuts works (to launch a terminal for
instance).

Creating another user on the same machine allows me to log in using
Unity3d without a problem (I assume therefore that it's not a hardware
or driver issue).

Deleting ~/.config and resetting unity (unity --reset) solves the
problem inconsistently (sometimes), but a logout / login produces the
same issue.

Re: [Ubuntu-ch] Ubuntu booth at FrOSCamp

2010-05-21 Thread Tribaal
Hi Dirk, All,

Since I just moved in the Zürich region, I will be delighted to attend/help
:)

By the way, if you live in the ZH region, please don't hesitate to let me
know if there are regional activities organized, I'm not really up to speed
with this part of Switzerland yet ;)

Also, I'm currently following intensive German classes: if anybody in the
area wants to practice French or English just let me know, we can arrange a
tandem (timeboxed conversation sessions, half German half French/English).

Cheers,

- Trib'

 To: ubuntu...@lists.ubuntu.com

 Hi everyone!

As Steve Langasek announced, Lucid archive is frozen for Beta 2.
As usual we'll be asking everyone on the QA team to participate in
the image testing to ensure we have good test coverage.

The procedures for testing ISO images and reporting results are explained on

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/ISO/Procedures

To zsync your images, you can use the *dl-ubuntu-test-iso* script, which
is part of the *ubuntu-qa-tools* package.

Test results will be tracked on

    http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/

We will coordinate testing in #ubuntu-testing on freenode. Please, go
there often to see what others are testing or what needs to be tested.

Thank you very much for your help and happy testing!

 Ara.

[Ubuntu-ch] Ubuntu sticker(s) anyone?

2010-01-30 Thread Tribaal
Hi all!

Could anybody meet me in Zurich or Geneva tomorrow in order to give/sell me
one of the famous ubuntu stickers that came with ship it CDs?

The reason for this is that all mine are dead (they don't stick anymore for
some reason), and I will leave on Monday to Africa to attempt the ascension
of mt kilimanjaro.

If I make it to the top I would like to put an ubuntu sticker on the board,
like the tradition is.

Thanks a lot folks!

Re: [Ubuntu-ch] Fwd: Ubuntu-ch Digest, Vol 42, Issue 14

2010-01-27 Thread Tribaal
Hi list!

Well it seems a bit redundant with the LoCo forum we have at
ubuntuforums.org:
http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=319

It never really caught up with us, I think because most people here are more
used to mailing lists and because we didn't want to split the community too
much (since we're small).
Feel free to use it however, it's a good tool, and most importantly is
indexed and backed up properly ;)

(WaVeR and I are admins there)

Regarding the install party in Geneva, I'll be very interested to
contribute. I live in Geneva and have finally finished my studies, so I'm
back around here :)

All my best,

 Hi Bogdan,

You have to log on first (up to the right).

Then, as it's a wiki, you can easily modify the table.
 Look how it's done.

Re: [Ubuntu-ch] OpenExpo Bern 2009 and Jaunty Jackalope Release Party planning

2009-01-14 Thread Tribaal

Hi all!

Cool to see already some items up on the schedule! Seems like every year
the planning starts earlier (thanks to you, Myriam)!

I will try to attend OpenExpo this time (I missed the last one), however
as you all know I'm having a tough time with the German language. I am
working on that however.
So if you feel an English / French speaking Ubuntero can be of some
help, I'll pre-book the date (need to make sure work+school scedules
don't conflict).

Regarding the release party, I'm also full of good will and am more than
willing to lend a hand :)

Straight to the hot topic: should we schedule two release parties this
year as well? One in the German-speaking part and one in the
French-speaking one?
:)

Hope you all had a happy new year and a good rest!

- - Trib'

Myriam Schweingruber wrote:
 Hi all,

 Happy New Year everybody!

Let's hope everybody has refueled their batteries as there is a lot of
work waiting for us this year again :)

 1. OpenExpo

I registered a booth for the OpenExpo fair in Bern. It will be held on
 1. + 2. April 2009 in the BEA expo halls and I would love to have some
company at the booth during these two days. I set up a page for this
 event: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SwissTeam/OpenExpo/Bern09, so please
join the party and tell me ASAP if you will be amongst the booth
people. FYI, Canonical Marketing Director Andrew Rodaway will be at
OpenExpo with a talk, so it's also a great occasion to get in touch
with people from the firm behind Ubuntu :)
If you still hesitate, the catering during this fair is well worth a
trip to Bern on these dates :)

 2. Jaunty Jackalope Release Party

The next K/X/Ubuntu release 9.04, codename Jaunty Jackalope, is
planned for release on 23. April 2009. So of course there is another
party to throw! Please, all interested, join us on IRC on

 * Monday, 26. January 2009, in #ubuntu-ch on IRC*

I already set up a wiki page for the planning, please have a look and
make your suggestions. Please be realistic in your propositions and
for those with a lot of ideas: keep in mind that ideas are always
welcome, but we would also have people who realise these ideas, and
this is hardly possible with volunteers.

 We need suggestions for:

 * Dates: 2-3 weeks after release has proven to be a good choice

 * Location(s): everybody who comes up with a location suggestion is
asked to kindly provide some additional work in further organisation,
i.e. if you want to suggest a party in one particular place, make sure
you are able to attend and help with the organisation too, else it's
simply a loss of time, as we simply can't be everywhere at the same
time, and those great, enthusiastic, but unfortunately also very few
people who have been organising parties till now know what we are
 talking about...

 * Posters: I will ask our artist from last time if she could provide
us again with a great poster and flyer design, but these posters and
flyers have to be printed and spread, so volunteers will be needed for
 that.

 * Sponsors: if you have an idea about companies we could ask, hot
connections in FOSS companies or work in such a marvelous place, step
forward and help us with getting some monnies needed for catering,
printing, location, etc. We do not need much, but these three points
are essential. Of course they will have their place set on the posters
and flyers and of course the wiki page of the party.

 * Manpower: the more we are the merrier! This also means less work for
the individuals as we can share tasks and of course we can have even
 more fun :)

Looking forward to see you on Monday 26th!

 Greetings

 Myriam

[Bug 65230] Re: startup messages continue on screen after first login prompt appears

2008-02-20 Thread Tribaal
Like Dustin said, you can always switch to tty2 to fix stuff to make bad days
more bearable...
And tty1 can be pretty for thoses of us who package appliances.

Best of both worlds?

[Bug 65230] Re: startup messages continue on screen after first login prompt appears

2008-02-19 Thread Tribaal
Could you please attach the output of cat /etc/event.d/tty1?
There should be no reason why it wouldn't work after applying my patch :(

Did you try making the changes by hand instead of using my patch?

[Bug 189344] Re: Problems with GNOME's Keyboard Layout in Hardy

2008-02-07 Thread Tribaal
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 187969 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187969

Same problem with my Switzerland/French layout... Keeps reverting to the
default USA layout, even after removing it totally from the layout
selection panel.

[Bug 65230] Re: startup messages continue on screen after first login prompt appears

2008-01-16 Thread Tribaal
I think the most appropriate solution is to delay tt1 only.
This way the boot messages will be displayed in a proper fashion:
- Boot messages
- (All daemons started)
- Show the login prompt

Login via ssh is not affected in any way, and most probably this is how system
admins will login to a headless server, so the cosmetic change will only be a
change for the better.
In my particular case (I'm building virtual appliances), the cosmetic change
makes all the difference in the world in the eyes of my clients (having a tidy
login prompt looks more professional).

I believe the change should be what Dario Berzano suggested:

In /etc/event.d/tty1:
Replace
start on runlevel 2
with
start on stopped rc2

I think it actually SOLVES the bug, not just works around it: it's the proper
way to make sure an upsart daemon starts on the end of rc2.
I really hope this will make it into hardy.

This seems to affect the (still alpha) version of Hardy.
The fix you propose still works though.

[Bug 141326] Re: Poor Image-Quality

2007-09-23 Thread Tribaal
I cannot stress enough that there seems to be a consensus in the user community
against this particular wallpaper.
Maybe the choice should be reconsidered?

[Bug 51398] egroupware on Dapper LAMP install fails

2006-06-30 Thread Tribaal
Public bug reported:

The latest repository version of egroupware doesn't work out of the box with
an Ubuntu 6.06 LAMP server install.
Package dependencies should include php5 instead of php4, since I believe it's
the source of the problem (php4 doesn't see the server's mySQL5 database).

Perhaps a different set of packages could be produced to include php5 as
a dependency? Like a egroupware-core-php5 / egroupware-core-php4 set of
packages?

Steps to reproduce:
- Install Ubuntu LAMP server (with the special install a LAMP server from the
server install disk)
- [sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade] (So that everything is up
to date, including the kernel)
- Install egroupware from universe repositories ([sudo apt-get install
egroupware]).
- Installation proposes many dependency packages, including php4.
- Installing everything suggested will not work.

[Bug 17216] Re: Hard drive spindown should be configurable

2006-06-24 Thread Tribaal
For users with unbearable surfing experience, try the following workaround:
Switch your /tmp folder to being RAM only, so that will prevent firefox to read
from the disk every time you click on something to see if the file it wants to
access is cached or not...

Basically to do so just add the following to /etc/fstab:
none/tmp/ tmpfs noatime 0 0

You mignt want or need to add size=size in MbM on top of noatime, if
you wish to limit the space in RAM your folder will take (should be big
enouh to hold your firefox cache, at least, if you wish to minimize your
disk access while surfing).

Hope this helps a few.
