[Bug 1880282] [NEW] [HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-df0xxx, Realtek ALC285, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2020-05-23 Thread Valdis Strautins
Public bug reported:

Hi, I did try to upgrade kernel 5.6 and also 5.7.
So it did fix the problem with Nvidia driver and now Xorg driver is working.
But my computer doesn't give any sound.
It recognizes the device and also even shows sound works, but I don't get any
sound.
If I use Nvidia drivers, the sound does work, but on Xorg driver it isn't -
https://i.imgur.com/LmmXRad.png

I did also check alsamixer and pulse control, did set up the sound, but any
changes
https://i.imgur.com/EHRsxj6.png

If I add any headphones or others speakers, sound work.

Well, it is hard.
Because when it will freeze, then I will reboot, and about 95% it freezes again

So I will need to reboot again and the result could be the same.

I guess when intel graphics is enabled then the second screen is not detected.

I could leave performance mode.
But if I set up performance mode, the computer gets hot and battery discharging

[Bug 1876489] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2020-05-02 Thread Valdis Strautins
Public bug reported:

I am dealing with freezing issues. When I did install Linux from a USB
stick, it did freeze in the installation process, so I did the run
installation in safe mode (taught changing drivers will help).

After Linux is installed, So when I boot up ubuntu, it sometimes(70%)
freezes after login, and also it sometimes freezes while I am using it.
Sometimes I even can't get to log in before it stacks. Then I need to do
a hard reset. Also sound sometimes is not working.

I did try to change Nvidia drivers. First I did use 440 drivers. Problem
with Nvidia 440 driver second monitor not detected. I did try change to
xorg opensource driver it shows black screen after boot - Stops on
vendor logo. At the moment I am using Nvidia 435 driver it is working,
but freezes a lot.

I did try to add nomodeset in grub file -
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset". Then built-in
desktop freezes before login with hp logo, bet when I add a second
display, Linux work on a second display.

Also, in Nvidia settings when I set to performance mode, if I put a
power saver, it uses integrated graphics(Intel HD 630), and the second
monitor is not detected then.

I did have ubuntu 19.04 and did work ok on this laptop, but I would like
to use 20.04. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am booting dual boot with windows.

Alos battery life is very bad, 3x times worse than windows.
I am using TLP, but it doest seem to help a lot.

Re: [Fwd: Taking A Break from Ubuntu]

2010-05-17 Thread Valdis
...
I depend on the Desktop Zoom and color inversion capabilities of
Compiz Fusion because of my visual disability. The problem is NOT
getting the Nvidia drivers installed. Its getting a desktop
resolution of higher than 640x480. My monitor is non-standard. Its a
Sun Microsystem CRT with dual inputs, one is a huge plug for a Sun
workstation, and the other is for standard VGA. Prior to Ubuntu 7.10,
where you selected your screen resolution there was a tab where you
could scroll through a list of hardware manufacturers and select your
specific model Monitor. If it wasn't listed you could at least select
one of the Default options. I usually selected Generic 1024x768
Monitor from the list, and I was good to go. This feature was
removed. I issued bug reports about it, made complaints, and not a
GODDAMN thing has been done to address the problem
...

IMHO forcing monitor to low resolution to show bigger fonts is outdated/wrong
solution, because it causes weird aliasing artifacts.

Much better is to change dots per inch for the monitor, i.e. leave monitor
native resolution, but go to system-preferences-appearance-fonts-details and set
dots per inch for about 200 or even more.

Re: No accessibility In Lucid Netbook Edition!

2010-04-24 Thread Valdis
As I know from my friends, they aren't paranoids and don't use login/password at
all. Go System-Administration-Login screen and set log in as... user
automatically.

Probably the most reliable way is to reinstall Ubuntu on this USB again and set
autologin for it.

[Bug 312707] [NEW] chips driver not loaded for 69030 chipset

2008-12-31 Thread Valdis Rigdon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-chips

Ubuntu 8.10, using xserver-xorg-video-chips 1:1.2.0-1build2 driver.

Without an xorg.conf specifying chips as the driver, the vesa driver
is loaded. Unfortunately, I'm unable to get 1280x1024 resolution with
that driver.

When the chips driver is specified, X will not start.

This forum posting (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57223)
indicates that it may be a problem with libpciaccess changes for 1.2.
