[Bug 894671] Re: update-manager freezes after initialization
The problem is not fixed. I can check for updates just fine, but I still cannot install any of them from Update Manager (see bug 898807, which was marked as a duplicate of this). The window continues to fade out and become unresponsive for a few minutes after the Install Updates button is clicked, and when it comes back nothing has been updated. christopher@XyzPrecise:~$ dpkg -s update-manager | grep Version Version: 1:0.155.1 christopher@XyzPrecise:~$ dpkg -s update-manager-core | grep Version Version: 1:0.155.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894671 Title: update-manager freezes after initialization To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/894671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm not a developer, but I still get the feeling this bug and bug 897984 with the Ubuntu Software Center might share the same root cause since they display similar behavior: both start up and are able to see updated software just fine, but neither can actually make any changes, instead waiting for a few minutes and not doing anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/894671 Title: update-manager freezes after initialization To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/894671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 898807] [NEW] Clicking Install Updates button causes Update Manager window to gray out and become unresponsive; updates do not get installed

I have just followed a suggestion here on my question about saving the output of vbeinfo by trying hwinfo: http://askubuntu.com/q/83085/18612 I'm not sure if the output gives any additional information that could be useful; it looks similar to but is not the same as what vbeinfo returns. I just made my changed version that way because: 1) I had no idea of what I was doing mostly (main reason), yet I just wanted to fix it 2) I like how the top of the sidebar integrates seamlessly with the bottom of the titlebar 3) To me, there's no problem between the sidebar and the toolbar, and I think it gives it a nice almost-3D effect. [Bug 851526] Re: 3D no longer works after latest updates
Hi Scott, I have not been running Unity 3D for the past week or so (switched over to GNOME Shell on my desktop), but when I last used it everything seemed fine performance-wise except the lenses being just slightly slow and the Alt+Tab window switcher performing so slowly as to be almost painful to use. [Bug 880465] [NEW] Duplicate Skype (skype:i386) entries shown
Public bug reported: When I search for Skype in the Ubuntu Software Center, it finds two Skype (skype:i386) entries right next to each other, with no discernable difference between them. They behave like one entry; in the attached screenshot, I only clicked the Install button for the first entry, and both of them showed identical progress bars; now when I reopen the Software Center, it still shows both entries and they're both marked as installed. [Bug 879065] [NEW] Banshee crashes often while playing music
Public bug reported: Using banshee 2.2.0-1ubuntu2 on Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit. Banshee crashes often while I'm playing music from my hard drive, usually after a few minutes. There does not seem to be any pattern leading up to the crashes other than they happen enough to get very annoying (i.e., just about every time I run Banshee for longer than a minute or two). To reproduce, simply let Banshee play some music for a little while, and wait until a crash occurs. [Bug 877002] [NEW] Applications Lens (and apps in the Dash) not immediately available after login
Public bug reported: When I login to Ubuntu 11.10 on my Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop, the Applications Lens is not immediately available after login for about 10 seconds or so. Also, during this time applications cannot be started through a general search in the Dash until this lens starts. [Bug 850895] Re: [nouveaufb] Plymouth refuses to show on boot, only at shutdown (mountall error messages)
I was about to say that using GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash plymouth:debug=file:/var/log /plymouth-debug.log GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 works too, without the plymouth:force-drm bit on the end. I just saw your last comment and I will be trying that out next. Unfortunately, I no longer have the cruddy Nintendo DSi camera I used to get that picture of my monitor error the first time around, and neither I nor my roommate have any cameras handy. In fact, I actually asked a question on AskUbuntu just a while earlier on how to save the vbeinfo output (http://askubuntu.com/questions/67236/is-there-a-way-to-save-the- output-of-vbeinfo). I'll see what I can do in the meantime; if the output's not too long I may just end up writing it down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/850895 Title: [nouveaufb] Plymouth refuses to show on boot, only at shutdown (mountall error messages) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/850895/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay, never mind on the camera bit. I just realized that I do have a camera: my laptop webcam. [Bug 850895] Re: [nouveaufb] Plymouth refuses to show on boot, only at shutdown (mountall error messages)
I just tried the 1280x1024 resolution. It looks better resolution-wise, but it's no longer centered onscreen, and instead is slightly off to the left, leaving a black bar at the right edge. Running vbeinfo in that resolution left no artifacts, but was still off- center. It did produce the full output legibly, but I couldn't really get a good enough picture with my laptop that would also be readable. Instead, I typed up the beginning that was chopped off earlier into the attached .txt, containing everything up to entry 0x106 (the first readable entry in the earlier provided picture). So the vbeinfo output is now complete. I'll stop for now (it's going on 4am here and I need sleep). [Bug 850895] Re: [nouveaufb] Plymouth refuses to show on boot, only at shutdown (mountall error messages)
Okay, I've altered the following lines in my /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash plymouth:debug=file:/var/log /plymouth-debug.log plymouth:force-drm GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 (I only use one monitor in my setup, btw, so I figured that option would be safe to add.) And lo and behold, it works! This is the first time I've seen my grub menu and Plymouth during boot in quite a long time, albeit in a low resolution. It's even centered onscreen, too! I guess this means I can finally boot my Natty partition again (although Oneiric's quite nice and I plan on sticking with that). Please let me know if there's anything else you want me to do yet to help get this bug actually fixed.
