Dans l'art. 3. This is the (Dutch-language) message I sended to: mila.dr...@fedict.be regarding the minister's initiative tousenligne.be / iedereenonline.be : snip - dutch Geachte, Ik vind het initiatief van de minister om meer mensen op het internet te krijgen zeer positief. Waarom enkel iets slechts, gesloten en betalend promoten ? met geld van ons allen by the way ? Hoogachtend, /snip - dutch Now we shall see. Did my best, anyway! All EU governments will get into bed with Microsoft as well, and this spells out BILLIONS of euro's getting into Microsoft's cash register. [Ubuntu-be] the news of the day: DUTCH IBM zet Ubuntu in tegen Windows 7 /DUTCH
[wishlist] brltty
Hi all, Hi developers and/or maintainers/coworkers, After having commented the right (3) lines in /etc/init.d/brltty as indicated at http://live.gnome.org/Orca/Braille my Ubntu Gutsy Gibbon *finally* booted-up without overriding my personalized /etc/brltty.conf But now I have three proposals for the Ubuntu-Accessibility team/brltty maintainer(s): 1* first, make us a nice Christmas surprise: do debug it and publish a new package with the hal/brltty bug fixed ! 2* btw, publish a recent version since 3.7.2 seems to be quite old enough... 3* last but not least, I presume autodetection is something important, but why not making the default text-table then dependent of the /etc/default/locale ? OK there are more locales and lang support under Linux than Braille tables, but that's absolutely not a problem since countries_linguistic parts like de_de or nl_nl or nl_be probably historically prefer a certain braille table as default, here de, just like for example fr_fr or fr_mc or fr_be or fr_ca prefer the fr table. Isn't this an idea ? Finally you must know that a non-US blind user like me reads yp|ubuntu56 instead of [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ when brltty's us table is default: it's not a problem for five minutes but unusable for a long working day... And we shouldn't talk then about numbers... I know this is a comlicated problem, but this is a suggestion + an urgent wishlist: feel free to discuss about it. Ubuntu starts-up correctly but I encountered a BIG annoying problem with my Alva Satellite 544: the display is recognized but I doesn't like the us table and I wasn't able to find the efficient method to prevent hal to redetect the Alva or to override my /etc/brltty.conf: even if I mv /etc/udev/rules.d/85-brltty.rules or block /lib/brltty/brltty.sh or provide the same text-table de to both /etc/brltty.conf + /etc/brltty.conf.orig, it *still* continues to start with us table and to override /etc/brltty.conf Please it would be very nice to resolve this very big bug and publish asap a new brltty package update: I'm becoming crazy! If someone can tell me step by step what to do (since my English is not famous) I will try to do that, but please resolve the problem, it's awful and I can't help other peoplee as long as I can't help resolving my own problem. [Ubuntu-be] Ubuntu à vélo ? opération « Friday Bikeday »
Hello all, Maybe this concerns Brussels, but I'd like to explain my idea anyway, feel FREE to transpose ! ! ! Brussels has recently started the action/operation Friday Bikeday; my idea/question is: what about participating with the goal of increasing the promotion/visualization of the Ubuntu community ? My slogan is: Friday Ubuntu Bikers Day ! Any citizen, administration, enterprise may participate. Why not Ubunteros ? Aren't there any Ubuntu bikers in this city ? I presume yes there are. How To ? well, simply by participating but + getting Ubuntu T-shirts, Sweeters, etc who can be watched more and more in the city at friday ? :-) As you understand, this is only a visualization operation, not a commercial nor political one. But you do probably know how does advertising works: visualizing a topic = to exist, and existing can grow up to knowledge, and knowledge to adheration. /snip FR Y P -- ubuntu-be mailing list / mailto:ubuntu-be@lists.ubuntu.com You can find list info and your subscription configuration options at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-be

After he asks me about Linux and Linux distros, a (computer-literate) collegue has tried ubuntu and was a bit lost about accessing his disks (he wanted to open some files for testing purposes). Maybe icons on the desktop à la Knoppix, at least during the live session, would be an improvement. When *first* clicking on them, a popup dialog box could clearly inform about the overwriting concern. And if there is a reliable way to figure out which partition is C:, D:,... (I guess there is), including such a mention in the icon name would be quite useful for Average Joe. Your opinion ? Not a good idea; why? : - if the swap is hda or sda1, where does you give the first hd part the name C:\ ? - the nomenclatura of hda/sda is not the major problem, the admin/detection of it and their correct implementation in teh boot lines in menu.lst, that's a major goal. - When concepts are totally different, IMHO ex-W$ people should do efforts to understand why it is so different, as if thei should understand that your Linux o s can be installed/splitted in many patts where the orde isn't important, but the partition type and fs: Linux people must invest in the goal to make ex-W$ people understand what the differences/advantages of Linux (/Ubuntu) are, not to try to turn our different approach/concept of things to W$ imitations. - One last example to argumentate about this: if you got 2 hds, under W$ hda/sda = C: and hdb/sdb = D: so ex-W$ will never understand why the positons of C D E etc still move depending on each individual computer: so definitely no, IMHO there's nothing wrong with our hda/da conception of naming.
