[Bug 312491] Re: Out-of-disk-space is not reported to the user when installing/updating packages fails

2009-11-24 Thread _sebastian_
I've reported one of the duplicated. On upgrading the installer told me
I had insufficient free space. Once I've provided more space via a
folder mount the installer went along. Then later during the package
installation I received the reported bug #289775

[Bug 486632] [NEW] etckeeper should ignore temp files

2009-11-22 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: etckeeper

Binary package hint: etckeeper

I did a manual 'sudo bzr add *' and wanted to commit changes.
The add command added quite a few files which where not tracked before.

I suggest that etckeeper should by default come with a bzrignore file
and __ignore__

 cups/printers.conf.O
 cups/printers.conf.O
 mtab
 blkid.tab (a link to /dev/.blkid.tab/)
 fstab~ (all *~)
 bash.bashrc.dpkg-old ca-certificates.conf.dpkg-old (all *.dpkg-old)
 ld.so.cache

these files are just adding problems and bloat

[Bug 460889] [NEW] package openclipart-png 0.18+dfsg-8 failed to install/upgrade:

2009-10-26 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openclipart

maybe a dupe of #311656 but my issue happened on upgrading to karmic RC

I don't know what happened, but the whole upgrade process went wrong.

In the end I had lots of these messages:

This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
process 30582: arguments to dbus_move_error() were incorrect, assertion (dest)
== NULL || !dbus_error_is_set ((dest)) failed in file dbus-errors.c line 278.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.

then when I killed
3:2009/10/26 00-28-25:(null)(30582):chipcardd.c: 1236: Closing GWEN
3:2009/10/26 00-28-25:(null)(30581):chipcardd.c: 1236: Closing GWEN

the installer stoped and I was lost midst the installation.

So I guess the whole system is unclean upgraded

[Bug 429219] [NEW] .gtk-bookmarks deleted/purged on full partition

2009-09-14 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi all,
I had this bug a few times already.

Every time my home partition is full my nautilus bookmarks vanish into
nothing.

Apparently the .gtk-bookmarks is written but as there is no space left
on the drive the file remains empty.

This happens even if I only use nautilus or call up a bookmark. Not only
when I add a new bookmark.

I think the file should only be read if there is no pending change to
the file.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2009-08-05 Thread _sebastian_
Although late I want to pin my name to the list of users who think that
resizing windows by grabbing the (any) boarder does turn out the be
impractical.
With a 1680x1050 native resolution in my notebook I had this problem since
feisty.

I second that the resize handle should be independent of the visual
boarder

[Bug 121090] Re: Evolution fails to download some gmail emails

2009-06-24 Thread _sebastian_
Hi there,
having or had the same problem.
I've backed up all my evolution under Intrepid and once I imported it back in
Jaunty I had this stange problem of not receiving all mail!.

I checked my mailbox sizes but all are below 1 Gig so there should be no size
restrictions.
It was quite strange as many mails with large attachment did get though but
little ones not.

After reading the comments I checked my Junk folder and disables the
BOGOFILTER Junk plugin. What the heck happened to you plugin? Why do I
have to sort them all now?

Well now I will go through the mails and see I've Evolution downloaded
all or only some. After all this was not a really evolutionary
development from Intrepid to Jaunty :-)

[Bug 360667] Re: [8.10, Evolution] Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2009-04-20 Thread _sebastian_
Ups, its been a few days since I reported this one.
By now I have to say that all is back to normal.

Here is what I did: Immediately after startup I switched to the trash.
Empty the trash and close evolution. Start Evolution again and
immediately switch to trash, then to the inbox.

After that it worked again.

Should I still do what you suggested?

[Bug 360667] [NEW] [8.10, Evolution] Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync

2009-04-13 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

As requested in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/27014/comments/94
I report this as a new bug.

I can't tell when it happened or what was different. From what I know I
did a lot of moving and cleaning (del trash) around the time it
happened.

On startup I get two error messages
Error while Fetching Mail. Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync
and
Error while Synchronising Inbox. Summary and folder mismatch, even after a
sync

I tried find ~.evolution/ -name *.ev-summary -print0 | xargs -0 rm -rf
which did not help.
Switching to the trash on startup fixed the problem for one start only.

What else do I need to provide?

[Bug 284309] Re: [Xubuntu][Intrepid] wrong resolution with ATI Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02)

2009-02-26 Thread _sebastian_
I had another test on a different old Dell notebook where I had the same
screen issues (no higher res by autodetect) with Xubuntu.

This time the fix/trick did not work, or it did not yield the desired
result. I added the line to xorg.conf but after restarting X the screen
went berserk. It looked like on CRTs when the resolution is not
supported.

Could it be that the frequencies where not supported by the display? how
can I find out?

2008-11-07 Thread _sebastian_
amazing - my output from the commands looks 100% the same - seems like
the computers are really the same spec.

I had a look at the wiki pages. Firstly I needed to install 'read-edid'
and 'xresprobe'

Looking at the ddcprobe output I figured I don't need to add a mode

Next I wanted to change the mode with 'sudo xrandr --output VGA --mode
1024x786' but as I was not sure if it is VGA or VGA-0 I tried a few.
Nothing changed and I could not switch to higher res with altctrl+
either.

How to I find the right output?
Should I still attach the output of the commands?

So here for the ones having similar issues...

[Bug 284309] [NEW] [Xubuntu][Intrepid] wrong resolution with ATI Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02)

2008-10-16 Thread _sebastian_
Public bug reported:

since hardy and now in intrepid beta I can't get a higher resolution
than 800x600 to work on my xubuntu system.

the machine is a old Dell Inspiron 4000 with a ATI Technologies Inc Rage
Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02) graphics card according to lspci.

When still on hardy I tried to change the resolution in various ways

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
sudo displayconfig-gtk
sudo X -configure

I tried to add VGA=791 but nothing worked so far.

From what I found out this particular graphics card is supported by the
open source driver so I think it is a detection problem

deleting my photos.db is not a real solution for me as I will loose all
tagging etc.

$ sqlite ~/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db
Unable to open database /home/seb/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db: file is encrypted
or is not a database

$ sudo /etc/init.d/dbus start
 * system message bus already started; not starting.

$ sudo apt-cache show f-spot | grep -i version
Version: 0.4.3.1-0ubuntu1
Version: 0.4.2-1ubuntu3

$ sudo apt-cache show sqlite | grep -i version
Version: 2.8.17-4build1

anything else I can do to help?

is https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/f-spot/+bug/185752 a dupe?

[Bug 237285] Re: gksudo nautilus segfault error

2008-07-25 Thread _sebastian_
hi all,

I would like to help with this bug, please tell me how!

I use sbackup to make backups of my home partition. sbackup runs as root
and saves all the folders and files as root.

Until now I did

~$ gksudo nautilus

to start nautilus and than use the CD/DVD burning thing to burn the
folders.

Now when I try to run nautilus as shown above nothing happens.

~$ gksudo nautilus
[1] 8256
:~$ Initializing nautilus-share extension

[1]+ Donegksudo nautilus
~$ sudo nautilus
seahorse nautilus module initialized
Initializing nautilus-share extension
Segmentation fault

the following lines appear in syslog, messages and kern.log

Jul 26 14:59:44 my kernel: [75281.170933] nautilus[8912]: segfault at

[Bug 207588] Re: pictures in tab disappear

2008-04-09 Thread _sebastian_
right, I downloaded the latest live image (http://cdimages.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/20080408/ at that time) and gave it a whirl.

no additional plug ins (all default live session plugins, 9 off) or add
ons (ubuntu mods only) loaded, clean live session.

the effect seems to have changed
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/4938247/Screenshot-System%20Monitor.png does not
load at all now, the tab icon goes orange for some seconds than dark grey, no
image is loaded. reload does not bring it up... is it deleted?

When I load this one
http://feeblemind.tuxfamily.org/galerie/final/ubuntu-wallpaper/ubuntu-1280x1024.png
the bug/symptom seems to be similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/182038

the png on http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080111-kde-4-0-rough-
but-ready-for-action.html does not load at all.

What else can I do to help?

Hi Pedro, I haven't had time to test again nor did I download a new

btw I was using the live CD and have a NVIDIA card so I propably used

I found a comment in another bug which might be worth checking out

[Bug 61235] Re: USB mass storage stops working after a while

2007-11-22 Thread _sebastian_
hi all,
I added a truecrypt ext3 partition to my recently-purchased Seagate FreeAgent
Go 160GB external disk. The driver was ntfs pre-formatted and auto mount worked
with no probs. unmounting was not really possible as the drive was remounted a
few seconds after unmounting (klick, no console).

So I searched arround and found this bug. To help out I followed this
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices) guide to give some
logs who might help.

my system is 7.04, running 2.6.20-16 kernel and 99.9% updated
