[Bug 1940004] [NEW] xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: WARN Set TR Deq Ptr cmd failed due to incorrect slot or ep state

2021-08-15 Thread M K S
Public bug reported:

Recently my external USB drive enclosure stops working after a bit of IO
activity (copy jobs etc.). This wasn't the case not too long ago. I use
this enclosure as an archive backup and plug it every month or so.

Import to note that this issue is/was being tracked here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=202541 and a few patches have been
suggested. I have a dell XPS 7590 laptop and according to comment
195 patch in comment # 176 fixes the issue.

[Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-09-22 Thread M K
I can describe that on latest Ubutnu 18.04.3 LTS (Linux local 5.0.0-29-generic
#31~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 12 18:29:21 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux) that there is following behavior for suspend (on HP Spectre x360
15").
- For Nvidia GPU Prime profile, the reliability of wake-up from suspend seems
to be improved with recent updates, however there is issue with power draining
and heating of the laptop.
- When using the integrated Intel graphic by selecting it in PRIME profiles,
the computer come out from suspend reliable, however there is the same issue,
that the battery is draining and laptop temperature is becoming high while the
laptop is suspended.

The issue is present also with no peripherals connected, and during
suspend the laptop fans are off, so the temperature of laptop is
becoming quite high.

[Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-05-02 Thread M K
HDMI issue on optimus laptops (e.g. HP Spectre x360 - 15) can be fixed
by disabling modesetting in the following file:

sudo vi /lib/modprobe.d/nvidia-kms.conf
# This file was generated by nvidia-prime
# Set value to 0 to disable modesetting
options nvidia-drm modeset=0

After this prime switching works correctly and HDMI works for NVIDIA
card.

Tested nvidia-driver-430 but the system still does not come reliable
from suspend.

[Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-04-03 Thread M K
Just to update on this. The same seems for HP Spectre x360 - 15, with
nvidia-driver-418 running on Ubuntu 18.04:
- HDMI does not work with Intel card selected using prime select. But suspend,
restore seems working with acpi_osi=`Windows 2009` in grub.
- HDMI does not work also with NVIDIA drivers. And the suspend will freeze
laptop.

I tested also Fedora 29 and the behavior is the following:
- HDMI does not work with Intel card. In suspend the battery seems to be
drained.
- With nvidia-driver-418 (xorg-x11-drv-nvidia) the HDMI works. But the suspend
will freeze laptop.
- There is not an easy way as prime select in Ubuntu to switch between Intel
and NVIDIA card

Also please let me know if there is something how to resolve this. I
guess this is affecting many new laptops with Nvidia card.

[Bug 1803179] Re: System does not reliably come out of suspend

2019-02-19 Thread M K
Additionally it seems for HP Spectre x360 - 15 (with nvidia-driver-415) that
also the battery is drained and the laptop is getting warm in the sleep mode.
By switching to Intel card (PRIME profile Intel) the sleep mode seems to work
well.

Affects also laptop HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0008nc with nvidia-driver-415.
The only workaround which seems to work is to use kernel parameters acpi_osi=!
acpi_osi=\"Windows 2009\", but that disables the touchpad.

[Bug 1816251] Re: [HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0008nc] Battery is drained in the laptop sleep mode and sometimes is shutdown by BIOS overheating protection

2019-02-19 Thread M K
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1803179 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1803179

It seems to be related to nvidia drivers. The previous behavior was
described for nvidia-driver-390. After upgrading to nvidia-driver-415 it
is observed the same behavior as in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1803179. (the
laptop freeze in sleep mode)

The only workaround which works is to use kernel parameters acpi_osi=!
acpi_osi=\"Windows 2009\", but that disables the touchpad.

2019-02-18 Thread M K
apport information

** Description changed:

[HP Spectre x360 - 15-df0008nc] Battery is significantly drained in the
laptop sleep mode. Over the night the fully charged laptop battery will
get empty while kept the laptop in sleep mode. The symptoms are the same
with or without connected USB-C dock.

As a workaround also it is not possible to enable deep sleep.

  Full laptop specification is here:
  https://support.hp.com/za-en/document/c06200426

Enabling deep sleep results into failure:
  $ sudo echo deep > /sys/power/mem_sleep
  bash: /sys/power/mem_sleep: Permission denied.

Additionally also not possible to enable deep sleep by updating grub
  loader.

  # editing /etc/default/grub
  # Adding
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash mem_sleep_default=deep"
  sudo update-grub
  # reboot laptop and still gets s2idle
  $ cat /sys/power/mem_sleep
  [s2idle]

and see if it helps. (You might have to adjust mixer settings as well).

In Ubuntu , to make a live USB just use :
  System Administration Startup Disk Creator

 Works fine here.

Didnt quite understand. Why did it not boot. If the install was ok, it
will boot into a command line. Then you can add all the packages you want.

As a last resort try this: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/minimal.
Arch too will boot into a command line and you need to configure your
 system from there.

Pl post the errors that you are getting so that someone will help.

 Also try this: http://www.archbang.org/

How are you booting - CD or USB.

I think you need a crash course on booting. The problem is not with the OS,
its with how you are booting. How did you write the iso to the CD.

By fail what do you mean, because minimal install will only get you to a
command prompt and not a GUI. Would request you to follow the Mini install
guide given in the link above. You will also need a wired broadband internet
 connection.

I am not sure if a regular OS will work on a Netbook. Would request those
with Netbook experience to pitch in and help.

normally base linux system without gui gives a login prompt after booting
here we can
login as root then we install xorg or anything or add usr but my system not
boots into
new system and it seems like no os installed only a curser blinking in blank
screen
i burned the 12mb mini iso onto a pendrive with unetbootin it works fine
every step in installation went fine but finally after install when rebooted
to newally installed system i
get above told blank screen with a curser.no input works and hdd led freezes
and sysem remains in halt condition

No need to use terminal for this.

Open Synaptic, and click status on the lower left corner, then you will get
choices like All, Installed, etc on the upper left corner. Select all the
packaged in Installed (Auto removable) and Installed(residual config) and
 select remove completely.

 Thats it.

I tryed above method for evolution but synaptic shows lot of packages and
 librarys

and if i removed only the package evolution the desktop shortcut remains and
if i

Then i dont need any office usually.I need an ubuntu with minimal desktop
with usr choice
like pclinuxos zen mini.

Re: [ubuntu-in] Advice to those new to Ubuntu (and its derivatives)

2010-08-17 Thread m k
On Sun, Aug 15, 2010 at 8:40 PM, Ramnarayan.K ramnaraya...@gmail.comwrote:

 Hi

Am posting this with some trepidation since its not about Ubuntu per
se and seeks to provide an alternative to new / first time users who
are having trouble with Plain vanilla Ubuntu but here goes

One of the problems with The Vanilla (meaning default / orginal / un
enhanced / un tweaked) version of Ubuntu is that is does not come with
the bells and whistles and sometimes has even an arm missing. So it
makes it difficult to enjoy and be productive from day 1. After this
vanilla install one has to spend a few hours / days / weeks (depending
on band width access) to get the system up and running to optimal .
[and if it is months - like me then its already time for the next
Ubuntu to be released ;-) ]

Having a big fat internet connection does change the situation, its
then possible to make Ubuntu do what ever you want. However for those
who don't , esp. those who live in poor internet areas or who are not
familiar with using the repos and manipulating them i have a few
 suggestions.

 1. Install the mediubuntu repos
 (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu#Adding%20the%20Repository)
and try and add whatever you need.

 2. Look for and install a derivative of Ubuntu - like Linux Mint
 (http://www.linuxmint.com/) and Ultimate edition
 (http://ultimateedition.info/)

Linux Mint is probably the easiest and the best and the cleanest. It
has a software manager that will do to your bidding in a manner more
efficient than Ubuntu. It won't ask you too many questions - by
default almost all the popular media formats works , for heaven's sake
even flash works easily. Subsequently adding closed source software
like skype, googleearth etc is simply one touch from the Software
Manager (which allow you to search while installation is going on in
the background). The Best is that its Ubuntu all the way, whatever you
could / can do in Ubuntu you can do here, it can use the default
Ubuntu repos and encourages you to do so.

Ultimate Edition is another derivative - its a totally rehashed
version of Ubuntu and packs in everything one wants and then more -
some what like an Ubuntu Knoppix (if you have used knoppix you know
what i mean) the Ultimate DVD is just that Ultimate - one you install
this you will not need the net for very much for a long long while
(huh thats like a dream or what)

Last for those of you who want to build your system and know what goes
in then there is nothing like normal Ubuntu. which of course is itself
a far cry from Debian or Gentoo

The reason behind cheese' delay might be that it takes time to detect
the webcam. You can run 'gstreamer-properties' and set default input

Regarding firewall - By default no servers accepting incoming

If you want a legal opinion, please talk to a lawyer, but
as I understand things, mp3 is not proprietary per se, but
patent-encumbered in countries that allow software patents. In
India, where software patents are not allowed, there is no
 restriction on converting to/from mp3.

Please note that this freedom of converting formats is an
independent issue from whether one has legal access to the content
