[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
Okey, ran back-to-yesteryears commands in fully installed Maverick Meerkat 2010-08-31 daily alpha-release -- the above... sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg sudo ldconfig It seems that the required codecs of gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad; gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg are successfully installed -- reported by apt-get (translated into En.) as '[codec] is already the latest version'. and '[codec] is set to manual install.' (manual... huh!?) Totem finally ran the above video examples, Totem being as cranky at starting as my old banger of a car: Still HD-stuttering in 48000 Hz audio and as before, not at 44000 Hz audio. I haven't figured out how to direct Apport to a specific bug as this bugID #575389. Take a look at bugID #630836 and #630837. //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
@madbiologist: Well, regarding reply #6, it's 'Yes', when verifying the issue of Ubuntu 10.04 in a full install Ubuntu 10.10 alpha. A 'Undecided' due to no possibility to verify the specific issue using the Live CD, as a Live CD. Regarding Totem, it's like my old car, a last in line Volvo S60 Bi-fuel: A new release is in the making and I'll wait until then. Both looking promising though... Regarding the request in reply #7: So the full Apport in related bugID #630836 isn't sufficient? Okay, will do. Expect log, the coming week-end at the latest. //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
@madbiologist: Well, a bug then. Because both common and multiverse repositories are checked in Synaptics, even after a Synaptics refresh. I apply the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, gstreamer0.10 -plugins-ugly in Synaptics; making sure Totem and gstreamer is up-to- date; refresh Synaptics; check that components of interest are enabled in Synaptics and then start a trial run, where the result is a 'cascading dialog'-situation with main dialog titled 'Installing Multimedia Package - gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg' and a smaller dialog displaying 'No packages installed' with an 'main dialog'-freeze requiring Kill processes. All this, under the notion that I don't have to install the daily alpha Live CD, 2010-08-31. Now, I'm making room for this alpha on a unit and I'm going to prep.-it best I can and then start a trial run. All in all this weekend. I'll keep you posted. //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
@madbiologist: Okey, installed and ran dist: Origin: Ubuntu; Label: Ubuntu; Suite: maverick; Version: 10.10; Codename: maverick; Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2010 5:22:37 UTC; Architectures: i386; Components: main restricted; Description: Ubuntu Maverick 10.10. In short: No change, identical problem in Ubuntu 10.10 as 9.10 and 10.04. What happened between 9.04 and 9.10, regarding gstreamer? On topic: Totem is a no-go at the moment. Asks for already installed gstreamer codecs -- ffmpeg et cetera -- and then freezes. Process kill, only option in Totem. Then installed Miro through Synaptics, works or should I say performs exactly as previously reported: 'CNET Buzz Report HD at dimension 1280 x 720; codec H.264 / AVC; 24 frames per second, bitrate N/A. Using MPEG-4 AAC audio at 44100 Hz, bitrate N/A, works without a hitch, while Geek Brief HD at dimension 1280 x 720; codec H.264 / AVC; 24 frames per second, bitrate N/A. Using MPEG-4 AAC audio *but a higher* 48000 Hz at a bitrate of 119 kbps really, really doesn't.' Off topic -- for my own PM: I still have to install my own xorg.conf to override a Xserver crash, when using an added NVIDIA-card towards a secondary display on a Fujistu Siemens (FSC) computer -- and nope Ubuntu doesn't do well at start-up, changing from default FSC-BIOS settings. Further-more, I understand it, but I don't like it; when Alpha- Ubuntu-10.10 overrides my main grub and then hides menu.lst in a novel grub.conf. Finally, I'm keeping the Ubuntu-alpha running, some interesting novelties in Meerkat. :) //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
Done. I've tried daily-meerkat Live from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/. No go, at the moment, due to no packages found for required h264.mp gstreamer codecs in dist: Origin: Ubuntu; Label: Ubuntu; Suite: maverick; Version: 10.10; Codename: maverick; Date: Tue, 31 Aug 2010 5:22:37 UTC; Architectures: i386; Components: main restricted; Description: Ubuntu Maverick 10.10. That is; no streamer0.10-plugins-ugly successfully found using apt-get or such. Thus, testing not possible. I'll try a later release in a week or two, with your instructions. //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okey, I'll check it, but it's a h264.mp4 video stream so I'll have to twiddle the file or find something comparable at 48000 Hz. Expect answer at the latest this coming week-end. [Bug 575389] Re: Only HD video out of sync with sound
@madbiologist: That is odd and thank's for bothering... Issue: Clearly identified Full HD videos in Ubuntu 8.04, not a problem; 9.04 not a problem; 9.10 not a problem but some oddities - as small image disturbances, at times. Same videos in Ubuntu 10.04: Not working properly, with serious lag and sound and video out of sync. Same CPU, same memory, later OS -- and yes, I reinstalled the sequence of Ubuntu OS above, testing the specific videos. Different tests also run on system components, not a problem, not a warning. Note: I'll try the 'glxinfo | grep render' in a couple of days -- the OS-upgrade path above took the better part of a week-end. Sum-up: Something is wrong here, because running the Full HD-videos in the dual-booted Windows XP, doesn't even flicker and if your suggestion is to upgrade my system, then it sound a lot like the advice of that Apple-figurehead of yours -- I believe a part of the adaptation of Ubuntu is that it support legacy systems, something M$ has dropped all- together. //S -- Only HD video out of sync with sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/575389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 103223] Re: X incorrectly defaults to using disabled Intel onboard graphics card instead of nVidia FX5500 PCI card
@Timo: The problem still exists in both 8.04 LTS, 8.10 and 9.04 on Fujitsu-Siemens (FSC) computers using AMI BIOS. It seems to be a problem where the on-board Intel integrated graphics card paired with a slot-graphics card has Ubuntu, reading the xorg.conf, so confused it freezes at boot-up, LiveCD or not, where the only option is a on/off-button shutdown. This happens when the slot-graphics card is promoted by the user to primary graphics, downgrading the onboard Intel GPU to secondary graphics in the AMI BIOS -- [Peripherals] Graphics: OnBoard=PCI switched to PCI=OnBoard. Note that there is no disable option available of the OnBoard graphics! Ordinary users, wanting to use advanced graphics on FSC-computers, hence their addition of a slot graphics card, are out of luck with now-a-days Ubuntu and have to resort to a more wide-spread OS. Advanced users, understanding hardware adresses, Xorg and Linux has a bit of tinkering and log-reading to do, to get their xorg.conf going -- one little error and your in low graphics mode. I, myself, is doing okey in Ubuntu 9.04, with an old cherished Ubuntu 8.04/Envy-generated xorg.conf --- non-nowadays-EnvyNG. But I'm not fine, still forced to have a secondary display attached to the OnBoard graphics card and the OnBoard=PCI BIOS-setting active. A note: I believe this issue to be a Xorg and Linux-problem. All LiveCD or RescueCD I've tried freezes-up at boot, using this BIOS graphics card priority change.
