That's a "Moo Point", because you Sir, obviously have no experience being

[1] Learn mailing list etiquettes please. You are quoting an entire mail
or half the thread to give a 2 line reply and we have to run through
twice or thrice the length of the screen to know what you have replied.
Understand what quoting is and make effective use of it in future.
[2] It doesn't look like an online discussion on IRC. We mostly prefer
to drop in, put our thoughts and keep moving, while someone takes the
responsibility of aggregating and publishing a MoM, places a final draft
in the wiki which gets fixed after final comments from all the members.
[3] Thank god it's on a holiday and am out!(I do not have internet at
home and hence attending anything on a Holiday after working hours is
not possible for me) ;) Good luck.

Here it goes..
Agenda topic is ' An Overview of Linux scene in India With Special reference
to Ubuntu '
and it is aimed at creating an idea pool to help students and newbies
contribute actively towards ubuntu.. As I said above going about this topic
as I thought would involve the following:

three wiki pages are required
(1). indicating the number of speakers and the topic they are speaking..(for
example: Future of Ubuntu India, contributing to ubuntu for dummies and so
on)
(2).indicating the time slot for each speaker..
(3). As said above, indicating the status of the idea i.e whether its in
discussion/deferred/approved with a brief description of that idea.. and if
the idea is approved it will come up on our current projects page with the
name of the assignee..

And the date I thought was 26th January 2008, Saturday evening at 18:00 IST
as it is a holiday and will be convenient to most of them I presume...

Any comments welcome..

ofcourse kingsly that works out when you have a small number of members in
the team.. Consider for ex: You are a division head of a company and 700
people are working under you.. Its just like saying write your ideas in a
sheet of paper and keep it on your table; we'll collect it and look into
it..And when the collection of sheets come the boss must be a real KALAKAR

quite a big number.. Secondly why I thought I would register up a
sprint/meeting on LP with the probable dates so that attendees/people who
are interested can register themselves for the meeting is the people who are
interested around the world can join.. In short:
If anyone wants to speak on any topic in the above mentioned agenda then
they would register themselves as speakers of a particular topic (say for

What according to you makes IRC the ideal platform ? As opposed to say..
calling for ideas on the mailing list itself ?

Advantages:
- People can participate at times comfortable to them.
- They can say what they want and move on .. unlike on IRC where
they'll have to wait for a chance to speak.

[1] Are you asking us to sit on a IRC discussion and make of list of
things to do be done? If yes, what kind of things. If not, then?

exactly.. I am requesting for an IRC discussion and build up a list of
things to be done.. from the discussion we can have an idea pool created and
then look forward to implement those plans/ideas subject to approval of the
loco team members.. For this we need a separate wiki page for the idea pool
so created mentioning its status i.e whether its in discussion/drafting or
approved or deferred/dropped.. And if the idea is implemented it will
appear on our current projects page with the name of the assignee.. That
would be my point of view...So for this to happen I thought I would
register up a sprint/meeting on LP with the probable dates so that
attendees/people who are interested can register themselves for the
meeting..and I chose IRC because I thought the best way to get everyone on a
single platform is an IRC.

Onkar.. I know that some of you guys like aanjhan, parthan, karthik, soumyadip
et al.are doing great work.. Its specifically aimed at newbies to help them
start contributing.. I know that you guys are contributing under peer
pressure at work and thats great.. I have also seen you giving answers in
the forums/answer tracker thats great.. But its specifically aimed at
students because we as students will not have any pressure or such sort of
thing.. So I thought of this idea to make an open discussion on the IRC and
have an idea pool created so as to larger chunk of the newbies/students can
contribute actively

P.S. For students: This is a generalised statement.. If anyone's
contributing to ubuntu as a student, thats great.. and please dont make this
a topic for flaming...:)

As far as I am concerned, I am trying to fix some java related
packages for past month in universe repository. And that activity is
going well since I am a java programmer.

Do you have anything specific in mind? I would like to hear some of your ideas.
Because there is nothing other - than bug reporting/triaging, patches,
packaging, documentation, translation to Indian languages - that I can
do at this moment. So if you have anything else to say please do.

I have been using Ubuntu for quite some time but have not actually
contributed anything to the project. I , for one, would like to be part of
such discussions and eventually be a contributing member. I think this will
bring forth many wannaba developers as well as mentors.

[ubuntu-in] [ubuntu indian promoters] Hello all...

2008-01-17 Thread Bhavani Shankar R
hello
I have got a new idea...
Why not schedule up an IRC Meet and discuss about the present linux scene in
India with special ref to ubuntu? and have an idea pool created so as to
have a larger chunk of the team contributing to ubuntu and moving forward
ubuntu in india? any takers?/responses/critics/comments/suggestions If i
get a positive response.. then i ll register a sprint on LP and put it up on
the mailing list so that attendees can register themselves..

P.S. Its a part of the marketing team I set up..
