None of them is suited much for Indian tax system. Kalkulate is linux
client, it is neither opensource nor free and can't replace Tally.

GNUcash is general finance management system, which is little confusing
and it is either not a replacement to Tally.
If you want to confirm it, please try someones Tally and see what the
feature it has,.

I am also a tally user.
I have gone through the search of Open source FA
package based on double entry system but i am not
convinced.

However, I have managed to run tally using wine.
if you really cant stay away from tally then you can
install tally with wine

When I was discussing someone over the adoption of Open-Source against
Microsoft's closed sources and proprietary solutions, I stuck at one
thing. The other guy asked if there is some alternative to Tally? As I
don't know, i thought I should consult the newsgroup and also searched
Internet. With search I could not find anything.
If there isn't an alternative to tally, we will have to think over
forming a group and starting a project like Tally.
