did not know this fglrx problem till i installed it :-)

Have been having niggling problems with graphics -
Compiz did work , even befor fglrx now it does not
Cairo Dock worked for a few days and they it just shut up and only
shows white stars instead of any nice icons
Google earth : it worked earlier now it crashes
While booting up i getting a modern art screen for a couple of seconds
Sometimes there are static lines that run up the screen - right side

So was thinking maybe if i had a better driver things would get ok -
hence the fglrx route

am running 2.6.28-13-generic, Ubuntu 9.04 on a t 60 lenovo laptop. and
graphics has never been great.

Are you sure you need fglrx driver for x1300. You should really trust
'Hardware Drivers' application these days when dealing with drivers.

tried that ,

seems i have to do this
Turn back to the default dirver of ati card of ubuntu 9.04 after
frozed by the proprietary driver .

Form forum.ubuntu.org.cn Jun 27, 2009 5:36pm GMT
step1 Reboot;
step2 Choose "Recovery Mode" at grub menu;
step3 sudo apt-get autoremove xorg-driver-fglr, and choose "yes";
step4 Reboot again; Choose "Recovery Mode",Choose "xfix ...";
step5 After "xfix ..." Resume Normal Boot
(from
http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/News/Proprietary-Driver-for-Ubuntu-9.04-Fglrx-for-X-Server-1.6)

so hopefully if this works will see you in some time

Just scroll down in single user mode, last option is recover graphics some
thing like that, which will set the /etc/X11/xorg.conf to defaults.
I am sure most graphics problems will be recovered.

[ubuntu-in] Disaster with 9.04, graphics display not working or recovering

2009-08-12 Thread Ramnarayan.K
Hi

Am running 9.04 Ubuntu on a T60 with an ATI x1300 Graphics card

Have been facing some minor trouble with the card / graphics so
decided to see if updating to the ati card driver fglrx i think would
help

so using synaptic i installed fglrx (i cannot remember the exact
package name) and along with it some more associated packages. It
asked for a machine restart and after this i get a messed up modern
art screen and no response from the keys except a forced power off.

Have tried to use the recover mode from the boot options and i can
access the root terminal but am not sure what i should do to recover
the system

Meaning what to uninstall ??

any ideas ?? will be grateful
