I don't think it shall make much of a difference, since both are based on Windows Mobile. Hardly true. Embedded devices are all very different no matter how alike they might seem. There is no guarantee that you'll even get as far as a shell on the embedded device without the exact drivers required for that hardware. And there is nearly no possibility of your getting to use the device for making phone calls without some drivers/proprietary information that the companies just won't release. If you can't hack the kernel and drivers necessary to boot up. Or don't know how to reflash the original OS when the phone is bricked .. it's best to avoid experimenting. Please bear in mind, that if you wreck/brick your phone, you shall probably void your warranty, and might not even be able to repair it. Be careful :) And all your advice above are sure fire ways to brick the phone. I don't think it shall make much of a difference, since both are based on Windows Mobile. You can try installing Openmoko (www.openmoko.org). Their wiki and IRC channel are very helpful. Please bear in mind, that if you wreck/brick your phone, you shall probably void your warranty, and might not even be able to repair it.
