Re: [ubuntu-in] Graphic driver issue
Ubuntu (and all other Linux distros) install a bare minimum set of hardware drivers guaranteed to make it work on a range of hardware at first run - advantage of Freedom - it costs nothing to bundle an already available driver on a Linux CD (or DVD, as is becoming more frequent). I replaced an Asus mainboard having Nvidia graphics with a Gigabyte mainboard having Ati graphics - Ubuntu booted up and asked about Ati restricted drivers. Thats it! The vendor was gaping like a fish - on Windows, this would have entailed at least a low resolution login, with lots of new devices found and what not. -- Rohit V. Of-course all the desktop effects are working well but why it installed the ATI graphic drivers instead off Intel graphic drivers. Ubuntu installs various graphics drivers by default to make sure that most of the cards work by default. It is not just Intel and ATI. These drivers are used only when you have the particular card. Yes, I am very sure. Which version of Ubuntu are you talking about? The package for nvidia driver ends with -nv. Onkar -- ubuntu-in mailing list ubuntu-in@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-in
Re: [ubuntu-in] Graphic driver issue
Ubuntu is such a versatile and best of the GNU/Linux OS,such that ,it installs more or less all the graphics card(onboard/discrete)drivers by default.Even though in my case the ATi drivers were not installed automatically, being their presence in synaptic packages repositories. My machine consists of an NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT Graphics card, and the NVIDIA drivers installed automatically without any hassles.I had to tweak my resolution/screen settings as thus.Presently I am using Ubuntu-8.10(INTREPID IBEX)(64-bit).
