Request for a mentor

2009-08-18 Thread vikram
Hi everyone,
I just subscribed to this mailing list, I started
programming in C, C++, MATLAB, Java, Python and now I am learning perl.
I have a lot of interest in System Administration and fixing sound
related bugs (this one because I don't know much about it, so I want to
learn) I have been using Ubuntu for about 3 years and I have to say this
is the best but like I said before I didn't know about this place, most
of my work in in fixing wikis and others documentation tasks.

My launchpad page is: https://launchpad.net/~dhillon-v10
My wiki is: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/dhillonv

I use Ubuntu for web programming, computer vision implementations and
also learning more about its structure

I am learning how to traigate and fix bugs and would really like some
help improving and refining my work in fixing bugs. I also want to
contribute more to Ubuntu so please give me this opportunity to learn
more by mentoring me...

Thanks for your helping efforts,
Vikram

Request for a mentor

2009-08-18 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Hi,

My name is Matt Trudel. I am 24 years old and from Canada. I'm a
member of the Ubuntu-Quebec LoCo.

My training is initially that of a programmer, with C++ and Java, but
I was very interested in systems administration and as such I've
worked in that field for the past 5 years. That for one helped me
become very proficient in Perl, and to (recently) take on learning
Python...

I have been using Ubuntu for the best of 4 years now, and before I
have used Gentoo, RedHat and Slackware. I'm proud to say that all my
systems run Linux!

Software I use frequently include NetworkManager, Terminator, Evolution, vpnc...

My launchpad page is: https://launchpad.net/~mathieu-tl
My wiki page is: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mtrudel

I have been working or at least looking at a number of bugs,
especially those related to NetworkManager's VPNC plugin. This is an
area that is especially of interest to me as I deal mainly with
networking and server administration. For example:

https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/intrepid/+source/network-manager-vpnc/+bug/262191

I've also made an improvement to NetworkManager-vpnc in hardy which
ended up being uploaded (thanks!!!):

https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-vpnc/0.6.4svn2422-0ubuntu5

I'm also trying to get some packages uploaded to Debian and thus reach
Ubuntu. My package "concordance" (a project to handle configuring
Logitech universal remotes) has been uploaded in Debian and sync'ed to
Ubuntu a few days ago:

http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/concordance.html
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/concordance

I'm also currently working on another package called "congruity",
which provides a GUI interface to "concordance"; it's been uploaded to
REVU and m.d.n, in hope to make it into Karmic, even though time is
running out...

That said, I'd like the opportunity to work with a mentor in order to
improve my work and get to know the intricacies of NetworkManager and
other projects better, as well as to improve aspects of the Desktop
and Server platforms in general, especially w.r.t user-land network
support and packaging.

Regards,

Mathieu Trudel
