Re: [Recruiting Group] Raise Awarenesses - Google+ Hangout Session
I can't attend due to timezones and age. Make sure you try to use terminal as little as possible, it scares people. Also, could you make a launchpad team for this? I was feeling sick and bad and was unable to recharge my batteries (until now). I was totally without any energy to do anything and when I felt a bit better, I got busy with other stuff. Anyway, I have never forgotten about our plan so here we go. I am planning to have a Google+ Hangout Session, just like the vUDS so those of us who stepped in and showed their interested to join and participate could possible join this session and I am aware of that some can not make it but the idea is not to have a meeting between us, the idea is to show what is testing and how it is easy and does not bite. Visual Effects play major roles. From own experience, people interact MORE with videos and images than words. If you agree, decide the time that is suitable for most of you and let me know. If you think this is bad idea, I will do it myself :) but, I hate to sit and speak to myself so at least, I need one :) I'm planning to make it as an interview. Q and A. So, if there is someone NEW to testing and have no idea what testing is, etc ... that session so answer some if not most of his/her Q :) What do you think? P.S. I am willing to do something similar for my team (Ubuntu GNOME) because at our monthly meeting, we have decided to bring more contributors to our community (not only testers, but everything) so I will use each and every possible way to recruit some :) -- Remember: All of us are smarter than any one of us. Hi Jun Ma, I am glad that I found one of UbuntuKylin people and had the chance to chat to :) Thank you for joining and showing your interest :) In this case, this is what we have so far: Ali (me) to be the driver for this project (unless someone has a serious problem with that :P) I will take care of: Handling the communications between the members of the recruiting group Find more testers for Ubuntu GNOME (what I usually do, daily) Help Lubuntu Team until the position of QA Lead either get Phill back or maybe someone else (I do wish and like to see Phill get back to where he belongs) I am already admin for Ubuntu Quality Facebook (Page and Group) and Google+ (Page and Community) so that will be good to attract more users to join and test. Jackson: To find more testers for Xubuntu Team Howard To take care of: Co-driver for the recruiting group Find more testers for Ubuntu Studio Fine more testers for Edubuntu ?? Jun Ma To find more testers for UbuntuKylin Ted To find more testers for Myth and Ubuntu Studio (??) So far, if everyone agrees and confirms, the above names will work closely to find more testers for their teams and the community in general. Now, who will take if for: Ubuntu Kubuntu I think both Ubuntu and Kubuntu have enough testers but I can't speak on their behalf, and the more, the better but let's understand one simple fact that we found this group to help those communities which have shortage with testers. I do suggest to focus our efforts for those in need at the beginning. 3-5 active testers is really bad. We need to assist those communities. Our team are now calling for more volunteers to contribute for UbuntuKylin Beta1 by holding a Finding bugs community activity. This is our attempt to find a more effective model for flavor testing. But the language difference may be the first problem we have to face. So I think multi-language is essential for regular local testers :P I thought you guys don't need more? :P You have the highest population on earth :D But sure, the more, the better :) And yes, the language issue is important indeed. For example, I typically access a virtual console on the VM (or hw test machine) by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F2 and then due to the difficulty of displaying a browser window in the command line environment, I then ssh in from another machine with the -X parameter and run 'ubuntu-bug ubiquity' (as a typical example) from there. Finally I then complete the bug report in the browser on a different machine, ensuring I get the most accurate information available to attach for the developers. Are there any other ways that anyone knows of or consistently uses themselves?? I seem to remember (admittedly, I may of dreamt this here!) a simple way of using the usual Ctrl + Alt + T to access a gnome terminal whilst the install window was working in the background, I could even get a browser window... was I just dreaming???... Odd times I end up with a broken system and it's often easier to reinstall from the latest daily build. Doing testing this way means that I am testing on a live system which I am using for all my normal work. Is there an 'official' source of information that anyone is aware of, that lists the new features and changes fro each daily build, so that it is easier to investigate these more effectively? I currently find myself gathering much information about features introduced or proposed new features, from summary news sites (such as 'OMG!Ubuntu' etc..) and figured that there must be a more informative way? I appreciate this is more out of interest really, from a testing point of view then if the test case still passes... then it still passes, but was a wondering thought last night. Any information, much appreciated. Finally, I would like to say well done to Nicholas and Phill for the successful Ubuntu Classroom sessions they ran last night, I found them very helpful and personally learnt a few things from both.
