Thanks :) I also download a copy of my guide onto the Desktop for people to
refer to. However, some people get confused between what is in the PDF and
what is on the computer's display.

On the same page I have tried to produce a guide to using printers on
Lubuntu but I haven't been able to find a different printer to try it out
on. It is very much an experimental version.

I've been doing that for years now. I use lubuntu because 1) it works well
on old computers and 2) it is easier for Windows XP users to use.

I have produced an illustrated brief guide to Lubuntu Linux that is handed
over to people when they are given a lubuntu PC. It can be downloaded from
the bottom of this page -
https://sites.google.com/site/ianbruntlett/home/free-software and you are

Hi Tux,

Old XP boxes with old hardware will often work best with the
light-weight flavours of Ubuntu, while standard Ubuntu may need more
modern hardware to work well.

- 3D graphics ability
- 3 GiB RAM

So I suggest that you try the different Ubuntu family flavours, and
select a suitable flavour (either generally or individually for each of
your old computer) to test alongside standard Ubuntu,

- Lubuntu with the ultra light weight desktop environment LXDE
- Ubuntu-MATE with the medium light weight desktop environment MATE
- Xubuntu with the medium light weight desktop environment XFCE.

You can test in a virtual machine, for example VirtualBox and tweak the
settings (for example RAM size), but I think testing in real computers
is better, if you can dedicate some old computers for that purpose.

-o-

Please test and report according to the testcases at the testing tracker

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/

and report bugs at Launchpad

https://launchpad.net/

if possible from the computer that fails (otherwise from another
computer) with the command line

apport-bug package-name

where package-name is the program package, which you suspect is buggy.
If you don't know which package to blame, you can ask here or at some
other mailing list or forum, for example the Ubuntu Forums.

Best regards
Nio

On top of that, contributing code to our tools (e.g.

Welcome, Grant! I'm a new-ish tester too, and I've found it's pretty easy
to get started. First, make sure you have a Launchpad account in order to

Welcome John!

I would encourage you to have a look through the following pages;

https://qa.ubuntu.com/getting-involved/
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam
http://www.youtube.com/qualitybecomesyou

Your first step is to join us and say hello and you've done that. Now,
pick out what your interested in and dive in. Use the activities page on
the wiki to help.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Activities

From there, look at dedicating a machine to testing the development
release. You can install and update your machine as saucy is developed,
and you can use it for testing as we track packages throughout the
cycle. We call this cadence testing, and it's happening right now this
week! Check out the links below and try out some tests for the packages
and images listed.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cadence
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Cadence/Saucy/Week1

We can always use some more eyes reporting and confirming bug reports
(as well as breaking things)! As always ask questions at any point via
IRC or this mailing list. You can reach our IRC channel by following the
link below:

http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=ubuntu-quality

BTW John, I've heard of Moldova before :-) It's wonderful to know ubuntu
reaches across so many countries and borders. Thanks for representing
Moldova. We should start getting new folks to post a picture of there
home country -- so many wonderful landscapes to see (assuming your a
landscape nut like me ;-) ).

2013-03-03 Thread Jose Lopez
This is what I usually get when I go to the sight recomended abve, this
also happens at the Lubuntu sites too. End of /MOTD command.
[19:44] == Usermode change: +i
[19:44] -syn- (null)
[19:44] == (Banned)
[19:44] == ERROR: Closing Link: gateway/web/freenode/session (Disconnected
by services)
[19:44] == Disconnected from server: Connection to IRC server lost.
I try to post a screenshot of the desktop, when I try with pidgin.
