Firstly, this is a MySQL bug, but you reported it against OpenSSH.

Secondly, this is a bug in CRUX, but you reported it to Ubuntu. We
can't do anything about bugs in CRUX. See: http://crux.nu/Main/Bugs

What comes smbd should wait for something else than cups to solve *this*

[Bug 716659] Re: Root filesystem goes Read only after installing multipath-tools on Lucid

2011-02-11 Thread Peter Petrakis
A few things, ask the customer to run the command 'multipath -v4'
as root after the package install failure so we can see what's going on.

There's at least one bug in the multipath.conf

1) scsi_id path is wrong
2) the blacklist regex is suspect

1)
Replace all calls to scsi id with:

/lib/udev/scsi_id -g -u -d /dev/%n

2) This regex assumes the sd names are ordered, this is never true.

Why are these sd devices being blacklisted to begin with?

blacklist {
   devnode ^sda[1-7]
   devnode ^sd[f-z]
   devnode ^(ram|raw|loop|fd|md|dm-|sr|scd|st)[0-9]*
   devnode ^hd[a-z]
}

SD driver pre-allocates up to 15 partitions per whole block device,
the first regex only filters out the 1/2 of the possible partitions of
the first probed device.

If I'm to believe this blacklist then we're looking to serve
sda8-15, sdb, c,d,e and that's it.

I don't think this blacklist is viable, try commenting out the first two
devnodes.

Please try each change independently and as a whole, and report.

Looks good, thanks for doing this, Neil.

I'm going to update it just slightly, as this debdiff will need to go
through the security queue, since there's an associated CVE. I'll prep
that upload and the security team will sponsor it into maverick-
security.

I'll get it uploaded to natty now.

The last thing I need you to do is to email your patch to the qemu-devel
mailing list. The maintainers do not accept patches solely attached to
bugs in Launchpad. Their processes require that you email the patch to
the mailing list. Sorry for the run-around. Cheers!

[Bug 716528] Re: kvm 100% when performing apparently IO operations

All right, so this comes down to an incompatibility between maverick's
versions of libvirt and qemu - libvirt is using QED, but qemu-kvm
doesn't yet know about it. The '-drive file=X,if=none device=...'
format, in particular, is QED.

2011-02-11 Thread Dustin Kirkland
Confirmed that the affected code is also in Lucid. Adding a task for
that, and attaching a debdiff for lucid-security too.

[Bug 717243] [NEW] vlan interface won't start with ifup, can be started manually

2011-02-11 Thread Alexey Toptygin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlan

After rebooting my system yesterday, my vlan interface did not come up.
I know that update-manager had been upgrading packages several times
since the last reboot before that, but I don't know which ones were
updated. I have this in /etc/network/interfaces:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0.20

this configuration had been working fine for several months before the
problem started. I see the following in syslog:

Feb 11 10:36:01 alexeyt dhclient: No DHCPOFFERS received.
Feb 11 10:36:01 alexeyt dhclient: No working leases in persistent database -
sleeping.

And indeed, if I do an 'ip link ls' in the time frame that dhclient3 is
trying to get a lease, I see that the interfaces are down:

$ ip link ls
1: lo: LOOPBACK,UP,LOWER_UP mtu 16436 qdisc noqueue state UNKNOWN
link/loopback 00:00:00:00:00:00 brd 00:00:00:00:00:00
2: eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state DOWN qlen 1000
link/ether 00:1e:4f:b3:18:db brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
3: eth0.20@eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,M-DOWN mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN
link/ether 00:1e:4f:b3:18:db brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

However, if I manually do:

sudo ifdown eth0.20
sudo ip link add link eth0 eth0.20 type vlan id 20
sudo ip link set eth0.20 up
sudo dhclient3 eth0.20

Then the interface comes up fine (I'm submitting this bug report through it :-)

[Bug 717298] [NEW] dovecot-postfix upgrade overrides main.cf

2011-02-11 Thread Craig Ingram
Public bug reported:

After upgrading dovecot-postfix, my postfix configuration file
(/etc/postfix/main.cf) had been overwritten without warning. This caused
me to lose several customizations including postgrey and DNS RBLs.

The expected behavior would be the upgrade should warn me that the conf
file was being overwritten and allowed me to keep my existing
configuration.

This may be related to Bug #715056. From the comments in there I was

that helped, but a warning should still be present.

We performed a full Wireshark trace when the authentication failure
happens.

It looks like all successful authentications send packets to the domain
controller and perform an LDAP searchRequest. However, when the failures
happen, we don't see any data being sent to the Windows domain
controllers. Possibly a cache related issue?

From an overall CPU load of 20%, after launching and leaving the VM not
doing anything (In the menu requesting keyboard language for the
installation) it goes up all the way to ~60%, and during installation it
goes till ~70%of CPU load.

This results are about the same as when launching with the command using
when launching with testdrive (it appears to be a little less with
testdrive command.)!

[Bug 716528] Re: kvm 100% when performing apparently IO operations

2011-02-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
I'm sorry, something went wrong in my editing the previous post. The
command I had wanted you to try was:

kvm -m 512 -smp 2 -cdrom /home/roaksoax/.cache/testdrive/iso
/ubuntu_natty-server-i386.iso -drive
file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/natty1.img,if=virtio,cache=writeback,index=0,boot=on

[Bug 694029] Re: [natty] kvm guests become unstable after a while

2011-02-11 Thread Dustin Kirkland
I tried to reproduce this on a similar platform as Jamie, but could not,
at least in my initial testing.

I'm running two Natty desktop live ISOs:
kvm -m 1024 -smp 4 -cdrom
/home/kirkland/.cache/testdrive/iso/ubuntu_natty-desktop-amd64.iso -drive
file=/home/kirkland/.cache/testdrive/img/testdrive-disk-suoUtC.img,if=virtio,cache=writeback,index=0,boot=on
-usb -usbdevice tablet -net nic, model=virtio -net user -soundhw es1370 -vga
cirrus

The backing disk is on an ext4 filesystem (a symlink busts it out of my
encrypted home).

I'm on an x201 with an i7 processor, and Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 wireless.
Kernel is:
Linux x201 2.6.38-3-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 10 00:33:26 UTC 2011 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Thanks for preparing the debdiffs! It looks like karmic is vulnerable
too, so we'll need that as well. I'll update the debdiffs to use proper
DEP-3 and fix up the formatting of the changelogs a bit (CVE- vs CVE:
), and get these building.

Re: want to use dnsmasq to resolve on localhost

2011-02-11 Thread CS Shyam Sundar
Tapas, by default, DNSmasq responds to the entries in /etc/hosts file and
then queries nameservers.

Can you upload the contents of */etc/dnsmasq.conf *to pastebin and share it.

Regards

CS Shyam Sundar http://about.me/cs3

2011/2/11 Tapas Mishra mightydre...@gmail.com

I installed dnsmasq on my server but the query is still not being
 answered from localhost.
 In /var/log/syslog I see following

dnsmasq[1094]: no servers found in /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf, will retry

 Feb 10 16:17:44 dnsmasq[1094]: reading /var/run/dnsmasq/resolv.conf
 Feb 10 16:17:44 dnsmasq[1094]: using nameserver 192.168.1.2#53

which is querying the DNS on Lan which does not have entries for the
Virtual Machines running on top of my server.

In my /etc/resolv.conf I have following when
 nameserver 127.0.0.1
 search somedomain.corporate.org

where as I want in /etc/resolv.conf

 nameserver 127.0.0.1
 nameserver 192.168.1.2
 search somedomain.corporate.org

there are some queries which have to be answered only via localhost. It
 is a reverse proxy situation.

The /etc/hosts file reads as follows

 127.0.0.1 localhost
 192.168.100.14 someserver
 192.168.1.13 domu1.tapas.domain
 192.168.1.14 domu2.tapas.domain
 192.168.1.15 domu3.tapas.domain
 192.168.1.16 domu4.tapas.domain
 # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
 ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
 fe00::0 ip6-localnet
 ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
 ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
 ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

Where 192.168.100.14 is the machine on which all this has to be done.
So what more should I be doing?

2011-02-11 Thread James Page
Minutes from Tuesdays IRC meeting.

Meeting Actions
===

ALL: ISO testing (including as much real hardware as possible)
to smooth the way to A3!
robbiew to ensure notifications of release candidates (and
re-rolls) sent out.
zul - Email ubuntu-devel to gather consensus on whether MySQL
5.5 should be included for Natty.
hggdh JamesPage to check sizing for minimal installation for
QA purposes.

Natty Development
=

General discussion about communication prior to release of Alpha, Beta
and RC ISO images and with regards to when people should be testing ISO
images (aside from day-to-day use) and how visibility of re-rolls are
achieve to ensure time is not wasted testing obsolete ISO images.

Everyone should now be testing ISO images as much as possible on both
virtual and physical hardware to smooth the way to A3.

ACTION: ALL: ISO testing (including as much real hardware as
possible) to smooth the way to A3!

Participation in #ubuntu-release and subscription to
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com for relevant images should help; robbiew agreed
to ensure that notifications to release candidates and re-rolls are sent
out through other channels to ensure awareness.

ACTION: robbiew to ensure notifications of release candidates
(and re-rolls) sent out.

Ubuntu Server Team Events
=

Recent
FOSDEM - Feb 5-6, Brussels - Belgium (DaveWalker, JamesPage
attended)
Upcoming
SCALE9x - Feb 25 - 27, Los Angeles (ClintByrum attending,
DustinKirkland presenting)
UKUUG Spring Conference - 22-24 March, ttx attending, talking
OpenStack (and Ubuntu Server).

MySQL 5.5 in Natty (zul)

General consensus that this would be a good thing todo; however needs
wider circulation in ubuntu-devel for broader impact assessment.

ACTION: zul - Email ubuntu-devel to gather consensus on whether
MySQL 5.5 should be included for Natty.

Weekly Updates Questions for the QA Team

Still behind on UEC testing.

Automated ISO testing now running well with concurrent jobs running on
new hardware supporting the solution - http://hudson.qa.ubuntu-uk.org/.
Minimal installs are exceeding current size objectives.

ACTION: hggdh JamesPage to check sizing for minimal
installation for QA purposes.

Weekly Updates Questions for the Kernel Team
==

General discussion about bug 708920 and bug 709392.

bug 710319 should now be fixed according to commit logs, but this isssue

Re: want to use dnsmasq to resolve on localhost

2011-02-11 Thread C S Shyam Sundar
Your configuration is correct. However, Im unable to understand what you
exactly need.

Remove 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf from the server which has dnsmasq
installed. ( i presume, it is 192.168.1.2 ). Add other dns like 8.8.8.8 to
query other servers from internet.

In all the other nodes ( the vm's ) - add 192.168.1.2 in the
/etc/resolv.conf in the first line.

Im not sure if this solved your problem. If not, please elaborate on what
you exactly want on this configuration.

Here it is I had uncommented a line
 http://pastebin.com/ESuky7dh
the pastebin file which you see is currently in use
 I had uncommened following
 listen-address=127.0.0.1
and used but it had not effect.
So right now my dnsmasq.conf looks like what you see on pastebin.

In all the other nodes ( the vm's ) - add 192.168.1.2 in the
 /etc/resolv.conf in the first line.
Im not sure if this solved your problem. If not, please elaborate on what
you exactly want on this configuration.

Well you are right that line
nameserver 127.0.0.1
was automatically getting deleted from /etc/resolv.conf
I wanted the localhost to respond to DNS queries which Apache was
sending to port 53.
I was not clear as how it will work
So in previously dnsmasq.conf I had uncommented it
listen-address=127.0.0.1
but now I have commented it.As you mentioned.
The error in my case I was having is due to a wrong mapping in /etc/hosts file.
I had mapped 2 IPs to same VM which I after analysing with tcpdump
found where the requests were
going.
I am in a DMZ where the requests do not go out of localhost to get resolved.
Hence I was in trouble as this is a production server. Thanks for your help.

RAID configuration failed during install

2011-02-11 Thread Tor Martin Slåen

Hi everyone,

I guess this problem would affect the entire chain of ubuntu versions, but
I subscribe to this list, so here it goes.

I had some problems getting a server to work today with my RAID
configuration.

I usually install servers with 2xRAID0 on the system disks, one partition
/dev/md0 for swap, and one /dev/md1 for the root filesystem. I create two
partitions on each disk before I configure the RAID. Usually, this works
like a charm, but today this configuration failed. It seemingly created
the raid arrays as it should, but after install and first boot, I got an
errormessage saying that it was not able to mount root partition
(/dev/disk/by-uuid/xxx) and was dropped to a rescue shell. I examined
the RAID partitions, and saw that mdadm tried to assemble the swap array
using /dev/sd[ab], not /dev/sd[ab]1 (notice the '1') which I had
configured it to do. The same goes for the root array.

I tried running through the installer again (after zeroing superblocks and
dd'ing about 400K from /dev/zero to both /dev/sd[ab]). I notised that
after creating the RAID partitions and starting the RAID configuration
tool, it would not recognize /dev/sd[ab][12], but could only recognize
/dev/sd[ab] (the whole disk).

I could not get the installer to create partitions which could be
recognized by the RAID configuration tool, so I had to use TTY2 to
manually partition the disks using fdisk and creating the RAID arrays
using mdadm. When I now ran the Detect disks step in the installer, the
correct RAID arrays came up and I finished the installation. Now, booting
was no problem and the server seems to behave like normal.

My question is; it this a known bug or is it my combination of hardware
which didn't agree with the ubuntu installer?

This was during the installation of Ubuntu 10.04.1 Server amd64.

Re: [ubuntu-cloud] Cloud Setup

How can we setup a private cloud for my organization. Please let me

Ashok, you're in the right place. The standard Ubuntu server install
should work on most common x86 servers, there's a list of certified ones
at http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/search/?search=server

Also, check out the announcement of pre-installed Ubuntu Enterprise
Cloud on Dell's PowerEdge C servers, you can order a fully setup cloud
to get going, then add to it over time as your need for scale increases.

If you run into problems, there is official support from Canonical
(available direct if you set it up yourself, and also available with the
Dell offering). Discussions on the ubuntu-cl...@lists.ubuntu.com mailing
list are not support oriented, they are more focused on where the cloud
infrastructure will go in future and how to embrace all sorts of new
cloud offerings and options.

Re: recovery of virtual machines on KVM

I am having a virtualization setup via KVM on a Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit server.

A recent dbus update cause a crash of my Host OS.It was a post install

Now I have to basically format the host OS.My cause of concern are the
virtual machines which were running on it when the environment was
stable.Which were in separate LVM partitions.

Some thing like

/dev/virtualization/vm1
/dev/virtualization/vm2
/dev/virtualization/vm3
/dev/virtualization/vm4
If some one has experienced recovery of this sort in past let me know
what did they do to get things back. All my Virtual Machines were on
separate partition and in same VolumeGroup this volume group was on
Host OS. Will formatting of HOST os clear the Virtual Machines also in
my situation or just be re installing the host and importing the
Virtual Machines via a tool such as virt-manager I will be able to get
them back.

It depends, if the VG is stored on the same disk and you reinstall you
might indeed destroy the VMs. Please don't proceed until you're sure of
what you're doing
