[Bug 716659] Re: Root filesystem goes Read only after installing multipath-tools on Lucid
A few things, ask the customer to run the command 'multipath -v4' as root after the package install failure so we can see what's going on. There's at least one bug in the multipath.conf 1) scsi_id path is wrong 2) the blacklist regex is suspect 1) Replace all calls to scsi id with: /lib/udev/scsi_id -g -u -d /dev/%n 2) This regex assumes the sd names are ordered, this is never true. Why are these sd devices being blacklisted to begin with? blacklist { devnode ^sda[1-7] devnode ^sd[f-z] devnode ^(ram|raw|loop|fd|md|dm-|sr|scd|st)[0-9]* devnode ^hd[a-z] } SD driver pre-allocates up to 15 partitions per whole block device, the first regex only filters out the 1/2 of the possible partitions of the first probed device. If I'm to believe this blacklist then we're looking to serve sda8-15, sdb, c,d,e and that's it. I don't think this blacklist is viable, try commenting out the first two devnodes. Please try each change independently and as a whole, and report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to multipath-tools in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/716659 Title: Root filesystem goes Read only after installing multipath-tools on Lucid -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thanks for preparing the debdiffs! It looks like karmic is vulnerable too, so we'll need that as well. Ubuntu Server Team Meeting Minutes: 08/02/2011
Minutes from Tuesdays IRC meeting. Meeting Actions === ALL: ISO testing (including as much real hardware as possible) to smooth the way to A3! robbiew to ensure notifications of release candidates (and re-rolls) sent out. zul - Email ubuntu-devel to gather consensus on whether MySQL 5.5 should be included for Natty. hggdh JamesPage to check sizing for minimal installation for QA purposes. Natty Development = General discussion about communication prior to release of Alpha, Beta and RC ISO images and with regards to when people should be testing ISO images (aside from day-to-day use) and how visibility of re-rolls are achieve to ensure time is not wasted testing obsolete ISO images. Everyone should now be testing ISO images as much as possible on both virtual and physical hardware to smooth the way to A3. ACTION: ALL: ISO testing (including as much real hardware as possible) to smooth the way to A3! Participation in #ubuntu-release and subscription to http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com for relevant images should help; robbiew agreed to ensure that notifications to release candidates and re-rolls are sent out through other channels to ensure awareness. ACTION: robbiew to ensure notifications of release candidates (and re-rolls) sent out. Ubuntu Server Team Events = Recent FOSDEM - Feb 5-6, Brussels - Belgium (DaveWalker, JamesPage attended) Upcoming SCALE9x - Feb 25 - 27, Los Angeles (ClintByrum attending, DustinKirkland presenting) UKUUG Spring Conference - 22-24 March, ttx attending, talking OpenStack (and Ubuntu Server). MySQL 5.5 in Natty (zul) General consensus that this would be a good thing todo; however needs wider circulation in ubuntu-devel for broader impact assessment. ACTION: zul - Email ubuntu-devel to gather consensus on whether MySQL 5.5 should be included for Natty. Weekly Updates Questions for the QA Team == Still behind on UEC testing. Automated ISO testing now running well with concurrent jobs running on new hardware supporting the solution - http://hudson.qa.ubuntu-uk.org/. Minimal installs are exceeding current size objectives. ACTION: hggdh JamesPage to check sizing for minimal installation for QA purposes. Weekly Updates Questions for the Kernel Team == General discussion about bug 708920 and bug 709392. bug 710319 should now be fixed according to commit logs, but this isssue is still being reported. smb and smoser agreed to take this offline. Agree on next meeting date and time === Next meeting will be on Tuesday, February 15th at 16:00 UTC in #ubuntu-meeting. Re: want to use dnsmasq to resolve on localhost
Your configuration is correct. However, Im unable to understand what you exactly need. Remove 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf from the server which has dnsmasq installed. ( i presume, it is 192.168.1.2 ). Add other dns like 8.8.8.8 to query other servers from internet. In all the other nodes ( the vm's ) - add 192.168.1.2 in the /etc/resolv.conf in the first line. Im not sure if this solved your problem. If not, please elaborate on what you exactly want on this configuration. If not, please elaborate on what you exactly want on this configuration. Well you are right that line nameserver 127.0.0.1 was automatically getting deleted from /etc/resolv.conf I wanted the localhost to respond to DNS queries which Apache was sending to port 53. I was not clear as how it will work So in previously dnsmasq.conf I had uncommented it listen-address=127.0.0.1 but now I have commented it.As you mentioned. The error in my case I was having is due to a wrong mapping in /etc/hosts file. I had mapped 2 IPs to same VM which I after analysing with tcpdump found where the requests were going. I am in a DMZ where the requests do not go out of localhost to get resolved. Hence I was in trouble as this is a production server. Thanks for your help. -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam
RAID configuration failed during install
Hi everyone, I guess this problem would affect the entire chain of ubuntu versions, but I subscribe to this list, so here it goes. I had some problems getting a server to work today with my RAID configuration. I usually install servers with 2xRAID0 on the system disks, one partition /dev/md0 for swap, and one /dev/md1 for the root filesystem. I create two partitions on each disk before I configure the RAID. Usually, this works like a charm, but today this configuration failed. It seemingly created the raid arrays as it should, but after install and first boot, I got an errormessage saying that it was not able to mount root partition (/dev/disk/by-uuid/xxx) and was dropped to a rescue shell. I examined the RAID partitions, and saw that mdadm tried to assemble the swap array using /dev/sd[ab], not /dev/sd[ab]1 (notice the '1') which I had configured it to do. The same goes for the root array. I tried running through the installer again (after zeroing superblocks and dd'ing about 400K from /dev/zero to both /dev/sd[ab]). I notised that after creating the RAID partitions and starting the RAID configuration tool, it would not recognize /dev/sd[ab][12], but could only recognize /dev/sd[ab] (the whole disk). I could not get the installer to create partitions which could be recognized by the RAID configuration tool, so I had to use TTY2 to manually partition the disks using fdisk and creating the RAID arrays using mdadm. When I now ran the Detect disks step in the installer, the correct RAID arrays came up and I finished the installation. Now, booting was no problem and the server seems to behave like normal. My question is; it this a known bug or is it my combination of hardware which didn't agree with the ubuntu installer? This was during the installation of Ubuntu 10.04.1 Server amd64. -- Regards, Tor Martin Slåen -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam
