Log-rotation doesn't work for catalina.out in src:tomcat9 as intended
Hello, A few weeks ago, LP: #1964881/tomcat9 was opened by Evren (also CC'd here), mentioning that Logging/Log rotation does not work for catalina.out as expected. Since this was in sync w/ Debian, we forwarded this there via https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1008668. If you follow the thread, you'll see two observations: a) This is Ubuntu-specific because of the changes introduced in src:rsyslog over a decade ago, which basically doesn't let it run as root, which is where I think the problem(s) started to originate. However, I am kinda stumped that it took more than 13 years to get to this bug. :) b) Markus (an implicit co-maintainer of tomcat* in Debian) said that the approach to fix the same, whilst being Ubuntu-specific, doesn't make sense to him. So since I am not very well-versed with src:tomcat*, I am confused about what we should do here then. What do y'all think? I think I am convinced that if a) is true, then this will indeed be a delta which we'll have to maintain forever (or at least until we re-sync rsyslog :)). What do you think should be the correct path? If there's someone who has more experience with the package, can they take a look? - u -- ubuntu-server mailing list ubuntu-server@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server More info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ServerTeam

Hm. ustriage should be ignoring these (-needs-merge is listed in the list of tags for the report), so if it isn't then something is incomplete with the logic. Did you see both the initial bug filing and the status/assignment updates or just one or the other? If these bugs keep showing in the triage report we may want to doublecheck the code. Triage report (for: 2022-05-04)
Bugs last updated on 2022-05-04 (Wednesday) Date range identified as: "Thursday triage" Found 21 bugs Bugs worth mentioning: --- LP: #1968629 - Incomplete [openvpn] - OpenVPN fails to start/connect Issue due to OpenSSL 3 deprecation of SHA1. Patch on a plate, I triaged this with High priority and tagged server-next. I am slightly worried by the security implications, but the patch landed in upstream master already, so we're going to ship it anyway. See the bug for more details. --- LP: #1971523 - New [libmnl] - Static build does not work for libmnl (-lmnl) Packaging bug introduced in the latest Debian revision. I asked the bug reporter to file in Debian, but this is actionable even without that. Tagged server-todo. --- LP: #1971619 - New [libvirt] - forward mode open is adding libvirt iptables rules This is a candidate regression-update. I didn't try to setup a reproducer, bug provided steps for the bug reporter to find out which version exactly causes the regression. Marked Incomplete. I didn't add it to our work queues but I subscribed the team.
