I have contributed to a few sections of the Server guide and would be happy to
continue. But since this is not my dayjob, having to re-ramp up the XML editing
knowledge, find some "workable" XML editor, remember the intricacies of the
edition process simply often too time consuming to participate.

I don't have any favorite and I don't think that writing things that will later
be handled by tech writers either. But it ought to be simpler to create
documents than fighting with XML.

Imagine having to reimport when most of the merge work has been done. We can
still use the old repo as remote & cherry-pick but wouldn't it be possible to
only import the new delta ?

I'm not familiar enough with usd-import to know if only bringing in the delta is
possible.

What if ...

2016-06-14 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

I just had this situation with the corosync package. In that case, it is not as
urgent since it will most probably end up in a sync request but yet.

The upstream debian maintainer is rather active, so he has released two new
versions of the corosync package since the import and creation of the git repo
occured.

Is there a specific procedure to include the new releases from debian in the
existing repo ? Should I just use git-dsc-import of the new source packages over
the existing debian/sid tag ?

TIA,

kind regards,

I tend to agree with Peter here. And if a move to Markdown is the target, then
why not migrate the Markdown result to the lp:git repository in the process ?

Keep the bzr branch XML formatted doc as the reference of where we are, and the
lp:git Markdown migrated doc as where we want to go. Keep bzr modifications to a
minimum so the delta remains small and by the time we have a complete Markdown
version of the document, we will have migrated to lp:git.

I suppose that using some XML -> Markdown translator could facilitate the
effort.

I do admit that editing XML is a definitive barrier to contribute to me :-/

I think that the reference for installing Openstack 'manually' should remain the
Openstack.org document :

"Openstack Installation Guide for Ubuntu 12.04 (LTS)"

http://docs.openstack.org/havana/install-guide/install/apt/content/

Juju specific instructions may better fit in the Server Guide, though I've heard
mention of an Openstack specific juju guide during vUDS. But if Juju's
instructions end up in the server guide, we must make sure that they remain
valid through the life of the LTS

Kind regards,

Re: errors.ubuntu.com: support for Server?

2013-05-23 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hi,

Le 16/05/2013 09:10, Robie Basak a écrit :
> Some implmentation ideas:

One item that came up during the discussions of the kdump-tools
blueprint[1] was the eventual possibility to send the error reports
triggered by kernel crashes to an intermediate "in house" server that
would act as a proxy/filter/gateway/{insert your favorite term here}
before sending it to daisy.ubuntu.com

This would be particularly useful in data center where servers do not
have direct visibility to the Internet. It would also be an interesting
source of information to review for sysadmins who want to know
where/what is failing in their infrastructure.

Configured as a proxy, it would proxy the events and keep a local copy
of the reports before sending to daisy.ubuntu.com. Configured as a
gateway, sysadmins could elect to send the reports, sanitize the data
before sending or investigate the issue themselves. This would also be
an incentive to them to build their own apport tools for their own
in-house software if they want to.

This is just brainsorming, but many of us in the discussion thought that
having an intermediate server before sending things out could be useful.

HTH,
