Monday Bug Triage Report

2022-10-11 Thread Lena Voytek
Bugs last updated between 2022-10-07 (Friday) and 2022-10-09 (Sunday)
inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 12 bugs

There were two notable bugs:

LP: #1988589 - mysql-8.0 - Impossible to change
the server port
Asked user if anything else was running on port 3307 since I was able to
successfully change the port whenever I tested the config.

LP: #1992105 - cyrus-sasl2 - missing httpform
plugin for saslauthd
User followed up with my response from Friday and provided a strong use
case for having httpform as an auth mechanism. I'll try and work with
Debian to get the change added there too.

3 bugs were found not touched in 60 days:

LP: #1915095 - clamav - clamscan modifies atime
during scheduled scans
Seems fine as is, last update was marking Impish as wont-fix with
everything else being low priority waiting on upstream fix.

LP: #1581864 - nginx - nginx.service: Failed to
read PID from file /run/nginx.pid:…
Fine as is in backlog. Fix released in all releases except bionic

LP: #1979313 - containerd - kubeadm doesn't work
with containerd version of apt install
Also fine in backlog. Low priority fix in Focal with simple workaround.

No bugs were found untouched in 180 days

Thanks, I agree it should stay in the backlog. I had another look at the
bug and in my opinion the only way to triage it is setting up a
reproducer using ESXi. Apparently it is possible to run ESXi in Qemu
with nested virtualization enabled, so a first attempt could be done
this way.

IIRC, conf.d/ is for the client library which is shared by everything.
mysql.conf.d/ is MySQL-specific. It's to handle better divergence
between MySQL and MariaDB. The directories are explicitly included so
you can follow along from /etc/mysql/my.cnf and update-alternatives.

Monday bug triage

There was some good back and forth between the reporter, Lucas, and
Paride but setup to repro the bug apparently was not trivial. The user
responded to the request for info so I don't think it should have
expired, but until someone has time to set up the necessary environment
I think it probably should just stay open in the backlog. However, I've
added it to server-team-discuss in case Lucas and/or Paride want to take
another look, and/or if it should be promoted to server-todo.

Does mysql require both /etc/mysql/conf.d/ and /etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/?
The packaging seems to suggest this is so, but is that redundant?
I suspect this bug is caused when /etc/mysql/conf.d/ is deleted, however
I'm not 100% sure. I've left this with a Q for the reporter and set to
Incomplete, but Lena may find this to already be actionable.

more of a feature TODO but worth engaging with them about. I've asked
for more info on the latter.

This is actually a dupe of 1983860, from the same reporter. They
provided some additional info on that bug, which proves it is indeed a
config file typo. Guessing they accidentally deleted something when
configuring things, but asked for confirmation.

I think your triage analysis is correct, and I wonder if there might be
a packaging issue, however reporters statement that they plan to
uninstall dovecot seems odd; maybe they already didn't have a proper
setup before the upgrade? I've asked for some additional clarification.
I'm suspecting there's not much to do here (other than perhaps a tweak
to the apport hook if it doesn't provide a way to skip reporting bugs.)

> marked for discussion

Also LP: #1987338 just came in and seems same issue.

2.4.52-1ubuntu4.1 is a security CVE update that published last June.
It's odd seeing 3 of essentially the same bug (apparently?) I notice in
the bug report some complaints about too many symlinks, which I don't
recall is a typical error; don't have a theory on how that could cause
this though.

Looking at the DpkgTerminalLog.txt files, I see:

  Configurando javascript-common (11+nmu1) ...
Package apache2 is not configured yet. Will defer actions by package
javascript-common.
  ...
Instalando una nueva versión del fichero de configuración
/etc/logrotate.d/apache2 ...
info: Executing deferred 'a2enconf javascript-common' for package
javascript-common
ERROR: Conf javascript-common does not exist!

So the issue isn't that javascript-common isn't installed, but that
apache2 is trying to enable it when it hasn't completed configuration
yet.

That behavior sequence sounds familiar, see LP: #1874730 and LP: #1980620

I wouldn't rule out that maybe the different bugs have different root
causes, they just result in a configuration breakage in general, and
javascript-common's enablement is just the first opportunity for the
breakage to reveal itself.

Anyway, +1 to the suggestion to raise this in this week's housekeeping
meeting ala server-triage-discuss. We can brainstorm more then.

Done, but all uploaders should note that it is not necessary to wait for
an upload queue rejection before a replacement upload can be made. There
was no need to wait.

This is a security regression I think, so should be tagged
regression-update.

We do have migration code for common configuration parameter changes
that we use for release upgrades. Maybe that could be done in an SRU
here, or even in a security regression update?

Either way it seems premature to mark Won't Fix without discussion for
what seems like a valid security regression bug.

Monday Bug Triage

2022-07-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Only a handful of bugs this time, all but one of which are either in
process or already handled. Only one requiring attention was:

LP: #1908638 mounts to polydirs not working

This is fixed in Debian and the fix has sync'd in. The issue affects
focal and jammy, but it's a low priority issue so doesn't sound like SRU
material. However, just in case I added the two bug tasks (as low
priority) and identified the fix that would need backported.

There is also one untouched bug, which now has an upstream fix:

LP: #1952531 samba: Access Time of File is set to far future

This is said to be fixed upstream, and in Debian with 4.16.0+dfsg-1
which is merged for kinetic. It presumably affects focal and jammy but
don't know if it's SRU-able. I've tagged it server-team-discuss for
Wednesday to see if it needs added to server-todo.

Monday bug triage report (2022-06-10 to 2022-06-12)

A couple of comments below:

## https://pad.lv/1969247 - *(Invalid) [mysql-8.0] -
fallocate with FALLOC_FL_ZERO_RANGE produces zero-size file…

The was fixed in zfs-linux in jammy-proposed and already verified, however,
this is stuck in proposed because another fix was uploaded with it and it
was not
verified so far (added a comment about that). Not sure if we can/want to do
something here.

## https://pad.lv/1978302 - (New)[dpdk] -

This seems reasonable to me, so I subscribed Christian to take a look since
he is also the Debian maintainer.

No bug stalled in our queue for 60 nor 180 days. No bugs added to our work

Monday bug triage

2022-06-03 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Bugs last updated between 2022-05-27 (Friday) and
  2022-05-29 (Sunday) inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 39 bugs

Sorry that this Monday triaged slipped through. But anyway, whilst
most of them are in good hands, the few worth mentioning are:

  LP: #1887490 - *(Fix Released) [libvirt] - [FFe/SRU]
  Add/Backport EPYC-v3 and EPYC-Rome CPU model

Regression reported (likely!) and so pinged Christian to TAL.

LP: #1966610 - (Expired) [smartmontools] - smartctl assert
  failure: free(): invalid pointer

This was expired because the reporter did not set the status
of the bug back to New after getting back to us and it also
seemed to have slipped through from our side. But having this
caught, I set this to New again and asked Lena to TAL, given
her prior work on the bug.

  LP: #1975897 - (New) [clamav] - package clamav-milter
  0.103.6+dfsg-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 failed …

Marked this one as Incomplete and asked for more information
from the reporter as it couldn't be reproduced.

  LP: #1976110 - (New) [tmux] - `tmux -d -x ... -y ...` does
  not respect sizing

Valid bug. The reporter has done a nice work. Assigned this to
myself to fix and backport this to Jammy whenever time allows.
Also, tagged it appropriately.

Monday Bug Triage Report

2022-05-23 Thread Bryce Harrington

Bugs last updated between 2022-05-20 (Friday) and 2022-05-22 (Sunday) inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 32 bugs

Most of those were metadata updates, really just two of note:

LP: #1974262 - (New) [xen]- Ubuntu 20.04 Xen Dom0 Cannot Boot
- Known issue (e.g. LP: #1854575, #1956166) but user is suggesting a
packaging change to workaround the issue. Since xen is universe, I
recommended forwarding the idea to Debian.

LP: #1975399 - (New) [squid]  - FATAL FwdState::noteDestinationsEnd exception:
opening()
- Request to backport a set of patches to fix random crashes. I think for
SRUability we are going to at least need steps defined to reproduce
crash and/or validate the fix, so asked reporter to help define those.

not touched in 60 days
Found 6 bugs

LP: #1959896 - +(New) [frr] - Resolve strncmp warnings
- There is an upstream fix, that switches from strncmp to strcmp.
(I wonder if strncmp might be safer than strcmp despite the warning?)
This should be resolved with upcoming merge, so I've mentioned it on
  the merge card's bug report.

LP: #1964141 - +(Triaged) [libp11]- Wrong certificate
returned if multiple certs have same labe…
- We were waiting on an upstream fix, which there is now: Four commits
changing +162/-27 lines that landed last Dec.
Tagged server-todo for someone to consider doing the patch backports.

LP: #1872145 - +(Triaged) [openssh] - explicit key offered
after all agent keys, auth can fail be…
- Still no further activity upstream, and just a wishlist on our end.
So I think this can continue to remain in the backlog for now.

LP: #1703821 - +(New) [apparmor] - Dovecot and Apparmor
complains at operation file_inherit
also:- +(Triaged) [dovecot]
- Low priority bitesize backport for bionic.
Can continue to live in backlog for now.

LP: #1930393 - +(Triaged) [clamav]- any local user can shut
clamd down via control socket
- Continues to await progress upstream; not much else we can do on it.
Can continue to live in backlog for now.

LP: #1948357 - (Triaged)[openssh] - sshd have no USER_LOGOUT
audit event
- Already was considered on server-todo but didn't look SRUable.
Can continue to live in backlog for now.

LP: #1883469 - (Triaged)[sssd] - idmap_sss: improve man
page
- Only affects bionic and is docs-only; not SRUable alone.
Can continue to live in backlog for now.

LP: #1883577 - (Triaged)[lm-sensors]- column layout in sensors
is broken for voltages of 1000.00…
- Entirely just cosmetic, not something we'd fix.
Was left open for community/reporter to forward.
No response, so gone ahead and marked wontfix.

LP: #1934997 - (Triaged)[sssd] - Authentication fails
after upgrading sssd to 2.2.3-3ubuntu0…
- Was blocked on upstream, but there's a fix landed now, which sounds
like it will be included in 2.7.
I've mentioned this on the merge card's bug report to look at along
  with the merge.

Friday + Monday Bug Triage Report

2022-05-16 Thread Lena Voytek
Bugs last updated between 2022-05-12 (Thursday) and 2022-05-15 (Sunday)
inclusive
Found 35 bugs

The notable bugs were:

LP: #1957104 - openssh - updating openssh-server
fails, because port 22 is in use by systemd
Asked the user for clarification on if the bug has been fixed for them.

LP: #1971509 - qemu - qemu/kvm win10 client cannot
upgrade to win11
Continued to offer possible solutions to the user's secure boot issue.

LP: #1971932 - rsync - error in rsync protocol data
stream
Attempted to reproduce the issue by transferring a large file over ssh on
localhost but it did not fail. Asked the user if they can transfer their
file over localhost

LP: #1973137 - openldap - ldap_do_free_request:
Assertion `lr->lr_refcnt == 1' failed
Asked the user if the error appears consistently. Not sure how to go about
reproducing this one though.

LP: #1973217 - openssh - package openssh-server
1:8.2p1-4ubuntu0.5 failed to install...
Asked the user if they were able to update afterward since they said it may
be an issue with having multiple update-manager instances running.

LP: #1973224 - mysql-8.0 - package mysql-server-8.0
8.0.29-0ubuntu0.22.04.2 failed to install...
This ended up being a duplicate of the current issue I'm working on.
However, this does confirm that it can show up in Jammy too.

LP: #1973308 - mysql-8.0 - mariadb install causes
mysql install to fail with ibdata1 locked
This issue seems to be due to mariadb being installed, blocking off the
lock file needed by mysql. I let the user know that they can't have both
installed.

Fair enough. I did not check the bugs with the 'packaging' tag, thanks for

In that case, I think we can use the 'packaging' tag, and we should update
the wiki page with a better description :)

It's possible that definition was not adequate in describing how the tag
has been used in practice. Take a look at the bugs with the 'packaging'
tag:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bugs?field.tag=packaging

There seem to be a number of bugs about reconsidering delta, and
especially the wishlist bugs look like they involve upstream related
considerations. Certainly look like the types of bugs we'd want to at
least know about, when merging a package. The 'packaging' tag is listed
under "Generic bug tags" so I imagine it was intended to be reasonably
broad in scope already. So packaging mistake may just have been a bit
too narrow in defining the tag, and I doubt there would be an issue if
we also used it for similar needs.

'packaging' also has the benefit of being relatively easy to remember. :-)

I liked the proposed approach Bryce. What I am not sure about is using the
existent 'packaging' tag, from the page you linked "The bug is likely to be
a packaging mistake", some of those bugs are not necessarily a packaging
mistake but a reminder to revisit an upstream bug or reconsider part of the
delta we carry.

There's not, however this request has come up a couple times before, so
rule of three suggests we do need a way to track these.

Previously I've just stuck them in my personal todo list to mention in
bug reports, and I can do that in this case too. (I'm probably going to
take the merge for multipath-tools this cycle anyway.)

But to solve this more generally:

The tooling already knows how to look for bugs with tags, so what if
during the regular triage process we tag such bugs with an agreed on
tag. Then when the merge board is generated, the tools would query any
such tagged bugs still open for the given package and itemize them in
the bug report description.

Looking at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Tags, there is already a
'packaging' bug tag, defined as a packaging related problem (as opposed
to 'needs-packaging' which marks packaging of software not yet
packaged).

Presumably any bug marked 'packaging' against one of our packages
probably *should* be considered during merge anyway, so if we used it
for this purpose it doesn't seem like we'd be misusing or overloading
it.

WDYT?

I've checked, it is not reproducible as-is.
I have added a backtrace and a few questions to the bug.
s1lp5 has a jammy VM "j2" which can be used to debug and/or recreate
once we know more.

Monday bug triage report (2022-04-22 -> 2022-04-24)

Bugs last updated between 2022-04-22 (Friday) and 2022-04-24 (Sunday)

Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 10 bugs

The number of bugs was lower than I was expecting because of the Jammy
release. Comments below:

# https://pad.lv/1970076 - (New)[openssh] - User
process fault: interruption code 0011 ilc:3 on SSH cli…

This is a bug in a virtualized environment in s390x, I was not able to
reproduce it yet. It'd be helpful if Christian could take a quick look to
see if it rings a bell to him.

# https://pad.lv/1961633 - +(Triaged) [multipath-tools] - Consider
dropping d/p/kpartx-Improve-finding-loopback-devic…

This bug is in our backlog and has not been touched in 60 days. I think we
should consider this when merging multipath-tool during the KK cycle.
Bryce, is there any way to get this linked to the merge bug that your
tooling will create?

LP: #1968200 - (New) [squid] - squid (GnuTLS flavour) links

Hm, seems valid but pinged (and subscribed) Sergio on

Monday Bug Triage

2022-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Bugs last updated between 2022-04-01 (Friday) and 2022-04-03 (Sunday) inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 16 bugs

All were handled already by squad members, except one:

LP: #1967528 - (New)[autofs]- package autofs
5.1.6-2ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade: …
  - This is weird; looks like an X app crashed in the middle of autofs'
update. Suspect reporter was trying to review changes. Asked for
clarification from reporter. Probably an upgrader bug rather than
autofs.

There were also four old/untouched bugs. One appears to now be
resolved, two were low priority, last one is:

LP: #1951903 - +(Triaged) [libvirt] - package
libvirt-daemon-system 4.0.0-1ubuntu8.19 failed to i…
  - Just med priority and reporter indicates he worked around it
already, so doesn't look like it requires attention, but sounds like
Christian considered following up so am bringing it up again in
case he wants to re-look.

Monday Bug Triage Report

2022-03-28 Thread Lena Voytek
Bugs last updated between 2022-03-25 (Friday) and 2022-03-27 (Sunday)
inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 7 bugs

Of these bugs, most were status updates and just needed to be subscribed to
ubuntu-server.
Two new bugs did show up though:

LP: #1966591 - New [openssh] - ssh-keygen -R changes known_hosts file
permissions (mode)
I confirmed this one is an issue on focal and bionic. It is fixed in impish
and jammy though so the fix should be straightforward. Added to server-todo.

LP: #1966610 - New [smartmontools] - smartctl assert failure: free():
invalid pointer
I was unable to reproduce this one after running the command against my
nvme drives 20 times. I asked if the reporter had any additional info and
if they could provide a crash file to debug.

4 bugs were found that were not touched in 60 days

LP: #1696800 - (New) [python-s3transf…] - S3 upload of empty files fails
Since this is fixed in Jammy I asked if there are still plans for
backporting

LP: #1912750 - (Triaged) [samba] - samba-tool domain provision crash with
password hash userPassword schemes" parameter
Checked the commit history of samba in focal, impish, and jammy and it
seems that this is fixed. I didn't have a quick way to reproduce though so
I left a comment.

LP: #1916562 - (Triaged) [sssd] - libnss-sss removes config when not being
purged
Re-triaged and confirmed this is still an issue in focal, impish, and jammy

LP: #1955588 - (Triaged) [samba] - Panic or segfault in Samba
Left as is, no additional info was provided by the user but it is still
worth being subscribed to

No bugs were found untouched in the last 180 days.

I've thrown a few comments onto the bug to make the steps from here more clear.
In addition I have asked Bryce to lend me a helping hand for
open-vm-tools in general.

Monday bug triage report

2022-03-07 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated between 2022-03-04 (Friday) and 2022-03-06 (Sunday)

Some comments below:

# https://pad.lv/1963720 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - package
mysql-server-8.0 8.0.28-0ubuntu0.20.04.3 failed to …

This seems to be a duplicate of LP #1960454, and I marked it as so. Lena,
if you could confirm this is right it would be great :)

# https://pad.lv/1963796 - (New)[amavisd-new] - Missing
information in 40-policy_banks

It seems to be a valid bug, one of the config files we ship only in Ubuntu
seems to be incomplete, missing a code snippet. This is something we should
pay attention to in the next merge. I marked it as Triaged, set the
importance to Medium and subscribed ubuntu-server.

# https://pad.lv/1963831 - (New)[open-vm-tools] -
Open-vm-tools 12.0.0 has been released

There is a new upstream release and the vmware folks asked for an update.
IIRC Christian is the one that has been doing that, not sure if he wants to
hand this over to someone else.

Yep, I'll write to them. However, I don't see why this should be a
problem. Either way, I'll follow up on the bug! \o/

Since I'm generally involved with Debian Security, I, for a fact, know
that this has been fixed in the latest upload, which got sync'd in on
13th January via 0.103.5+dfsg-1. I've updated the bug and marked it as
Fix Released to indicate the same.

Bugs last updated between 2022-01-14 (Friday) and 2022-01-16 (Sunday)
inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 15 bugs

## https://pad.lv/1798089 - (Invalid)[clamav]-
libclamunrar needs updated to 0.103.x to match clamav

This is a request to update libclamunrar which is a multiverse package, not
exactly a package we take care of. But Utkarsh mentioned he knows the
Debian maintainer and will ask him for an update.

## https://pad.lv/1957996 - (New)[clamav]-
CVE-2022-20698 ClamAV update

I subscribed the Security team to take a look at this CVE.

## https://pad.lv/1831441 - *(Triaged) [samba] - Please

This is a request for packaging a new service which is not available also
in Debian. I recommended to file a bug in Debian and see what samba
maintainers will say. I do not believe this is worth to have packaged
only in Ubuntu, but I am not a samba expert, correct me if I am wrong.

## https://pad.lv/1955347 - (Incomplete) [rsync] - rsync
works bad with encfs now

It looks to me like a potential regression after the last SRU. I asked the
user to try to rollback the version and check if the problem is fixed.

Monday bug triage

2021-12-06 Thread Bryce Harrington
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 19 bugs
As usual, most needed no action, just a couple worth mention:

LP: #1953216 - (New)[exim4] - PROXY feature not compiled in
* They're requesting enabling "SUPPORT_PROXY=yes" in the Makefile.  I
requested they report this to Debian, since Debian will be better
positioned to decide if/how to handle this.

LP: #1953128 - (New)[postgresql-14] - GCC ICE: in
create_fix_barrier, at config/arm/arm.c:17891
* Sponsorship request from Simon Chopin, patch-on-plate situation
* Subbed and added to server-next so we can look into this soonish.

LP: #1953218 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - package mysql-server-8.0
8.0.27-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade
* The server was repeatedly crashing with a segfault that appears to
match an unfixed upstream bug. Linked the bug & updated title.

LP: #1953243 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - package mysql-server-8.0
8.0.27-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade
* apt lock issue (two apt processes?) probably not mysql-related
* Apport hook should be modified to not report on apt locking failures

Just one worth mention:

LP: #1912390 - (New)[net-snmp] - [Patch] TLS/DTLS:
inconsistent allowed_uses behaviour when in debug mode / not in debug mode
* Fix already included in new net-snmp we already plan to merge, but
unclear if this would be an SRU candidate as well.

Bugs last updated between 2021-09-17 (Friday) and 2021-09-19 (Sunday)

Some of them worth mentioning:

https://pad.lv/1944005 - (New)[multipath-tools] - System Lockup
during failover
-> The bug reporter is saying that multipath failover is not working on
Focal, I was not able to spot any issue in the logs and asked for more
information to then try to set up a virtual environment to reproduce it.

https://pad.lv/1944008 - (New)[php8.0] - php-fpm
doesn't include huge-code-pages feature support
-> This is a feature request, since we do not carry any delta, I asked the
bug reporter to file the bug in Debian. Set it as triaged and marked as a
wishlist.

https://pad.lv/1944037 - (New)[liburing] - Latest
packaged version is a year old with a lot of bug fixes missing
-> A newer version of liburing is requested, I told the user we should be
updating it next cycle due to the current freeze for the Impish release
(this is an upstream major version bump).

Added update comments to the two bugs below to keep them showing up in our

Monday bug triage

2021-09-06 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Bugs last updated between 2021-09-03 (Friday) and
  2021-09-05 (Sunday) inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 23 bugs

Got a high number of bugs mostly because everything got
fixed with glibc migrating. Only worth mentioning bugs are:

  LP: #1939353 - (New) [postfix] - FTBFS 3.5.6-1build1 with
  gcc-11

Commented for Miriam to TAL to squeeze this in along with
prepping a fix for LP: #1885403.

LP: #1940957 - (New) [dpdk] - DPDK ports get disabled after
Open vSwitch restart with Intel XXV710(i40e) and 25G AOC
  cables

Even though I know Christian is on top of this with Nobuto,
I subscribed him to the bug.

LP: #1942658 - (New) [mysql-8.0] - package
  mysql-server-8.0 8.0.26-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed
  to install/upgrade: [...]

Good ol' bug. Marked it as incomplete and asked for more
information.

---
Bugs tagged 'server-next' and not touched in 60 days

  LP: #1785383 - (Triaged) [dnsmasq] - missing EDNS0 record

We still need to TAL at the Bionic task for dnsmasq. So I
commented there to make sure the bug doesn't get expired.

---
Bugs in backlog and not touched in 180 days
Found 3 bugs

LP: #1677398 - (Triaged) [libvirt] - Apparmor prevents
using storage pools and hostdev networks

and

LP: #1916313 - (Confirmed) [qemu] - memory allocate issue
  of windows vm

Christian, can you please TAL at these two above?^^ TIA!

  LP: #1851232 - (Triaged) [open-iscsi] - Laptop does not
  suspend when using open-iscsi

Still needs to be looked at. Commented so the bug doesn't
expire.

Monday bug triage report

2021-08-02 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Bugs last updated between 2021-07-30 (Friday) and 2021-08-01 (Sunday)
inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 26 bugs

Today I got many bug reports but most of them came up to triage as a result
of another triage done by community members, so nothing to do :) There were
also some mysql-8.0 bugs but none of them seems like a real bug in the
package.

---
Bugs tagged 'server-next' and not touched in 60 days
Found 1 bugs
https://pad.lv/1899611 - (Fix Committed) [apache2]- Purpose
unclear of unknown file /etc/apache2/apache2.conf.in
-> Removed the server-next tag from this bug, it impacted Xenial and Xenial
has transitioned to ESM. Moreover, the severity of the bug seems quite low
(an extra file installed but not used).

---
Bugs in backlog and not touched in 180 days
Found 2 bugs
https://pad.lv/1865904 - (Confirmed) [tomcat8]- Needs updated
to Tomcat 8.5.51 for GhostCat bug fixes
-> The bug reporter wanted to upgrade the version to fix a CVE but the
security team explained some complications in that and it would need a
newer version of apache. It seems that we will not fix this.

https://pad.lv/1913729 - (Triaged)[sg3-utils] -
/usr/bin/rescan-scsi-bus.sh: line 245: test: -le: unary operator expected
-> Added a comment asking if someone is willing to prepare an upload to fix
it. The severity of the bug is low but Christian already identified a patch
to it. Since this does not cause any functional issue I did
 not add the server-next tag.

Monday bug triage

2021-07-19 Thread Utkarsh Gupta
Bugs last updated between 2021-07-16 (Friday) and
 2021-07-18 (Sunday) inclusive
Date range identified as: "Monday triage"
Found 22 bugs

This was a fun bug triage, done with Miriam (and she even
spotted the actual problem in one of the bugs which I
overlooked. So yay! \o/)

Most of the bugs are under control or are being actively
tracked. The only bugs worth mentioning are:

1. LP: #1934529 - (Incomplete) [postfix] - Postfix
   package install always fails

The reporter had a broken system and that is why they
couldn't install postfix. Was previously marked as
"Incomplete" but after verifying, I marked it as
"Invalid" because this wasn't really a bug in the package.

2. LP: #1936696 - (New) [mysql-8.0] - package
   mysql-server-8.0 8.0.25-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to
   install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package
   post-installation script subprocess returned error
   exit status 127

Miriam nicely noticed that this bug was a result of
the user trying to use mariadb (from third-party sources
and mysql-server from apt). We advised the reporter to
not do that and purge mariadb if they want to use
mysql, instead. Marked it as Invalid.

3. LP: #1936702 - (New) [ubuntu-advantage-tools] -
   patch_status_json.py crashed with KeyError in
   patch_status_json_schema_0_1(): 'configStatus'

Lucas M. (from the other part of our squad) mentioned that
they know about this and he's going to reply to the bug.
So did nothing.

4. LP: #1936744 - (New) [apache2] - Network adapter
   disappeared.Disconnected from internet.

This looks like a local configuration issue so
marked it as Incomplete and asked for more information.
Simultaneously, provided Unix Stackexchange thread
if they want to look further (and might help).

5. LP: #1936761 - (New) [clamav] - package clamav-base
   0.103.2+dfsg-0ubuntu0.20.04.2 failed to install/upgrade:
   installed clamav-base package post-installation script
subprocess returned error exit status 1

Couldn't reproduce. Very likely a local issue. Marked it as
Incomplete and asked for more information.

Monday bug triage

2021-05-25 Thread Bryce Harrington
Quite a few bugs this time, and a large chunk were mysql so I spent some
extra time there (more below):

LP: #1798089 - (New)[clamav] - ClamAV do not processes
CL_TYPE_RAR cdb custom signature format
  * Actually, "libclamunrar needs updated to 0.103.x to match clamav"
  * libclamunrar is in multiverse though, due to proprietary licensing.
I retargeted the bug, and let reporters know this should rather be
tackled in Debian.

LP: #1898928 - (Incomplete) [ubuntu-advantage-tools] - package
ubuntu-advantage-tools 19.6~ubuntu14.04.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess
installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
  * Users installed other distros on top of Ubuntu (Trisquel and Linux
Mint) and lost their /etc/os-release
  * Marked bug WONTFIX and directed them to their respective distro
maintainers.

LP: #1926265 - *(Confirmed) [openldap] - slapd enter in infinite loop
on sched_yield syscall
  * Bug commenter confirmed reverting a patch fixes the issue
  * Not sure it is SRUable since the revert may regress a bug fix.
So maybe needs a better fix developed?

LP: #1929270 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - package libmysqlclient-dev
(not installed) failed to install/upgrade: libmariadb-dev:amd64
1:10.3.29+maria~bionic paketinde de bulunan
'/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libmysqlservices.a' dosyasının üzerine yazılmaya
çalışılıyor
  * User filed a bunch of bugs against mysql-8
  * They attempted installing both mysql and mariadb, and each version
of php since 5.6 via PPA. Feels like they're setting up a server
via cargo culted directions.
  * Recommend they not co-install mysql and mariadb, and closed all the
bugs as invalid.

LP: #1929319 - (New)[mysql-8.0] - package mysql-server-8.0
8.0.25-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0
package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1
  * Looks like dupe of the above bug (timeout shutting down during
upgrade)
  * However the log also shows a unique error message relating to locale
settings that would be better to focus this bug report on.

In addition, I went through another half dozen recently reported mysql
upgrade bugs, suspecting there might be more bugs showing shutdown
failures coupled with long shutdown times. Sure enough there are a
number of these. In each case, previous shutdown/restart sequences took
only a matter of a few seconds, but the restart when the error happened
required over a minute. Poking around in the /etc/init.d/mysql shutdown
code makes me suspect it has a timeout set to something less than a
minute (10 sec?) and then treats it as an error. This might explain a
lot of the failures we see that seem to be complaining about existing
mysql services on other ports and so on. This hypothesis should be
straightforward to test, and if it pans out the solution could be to
simply loosen the respective timeout to a larger number (maybe 5 min?)

Not all the mysql bugs were this same issue, there also continue to be
bug reports relating to co-installed mysql+mariadb. Here is a way I
found helpful to examine what the user was doing leading up to the
error:

$ grep "Requested-By: " -B1 DpkgHistoryLog.txt  | grep Commandline

In examining a couple of these mariadb bugs this way, I get the sense
that the users may be installing mariadb semi-unintentionally by
cut-and-paste sysadminning and may be using online guides pertaining
more to Debian.

I can certainly try to guide the user there, but I just did the initial
triage of the bug :-). You (or anyone else who happens to be triaging
when this bug pops up again) are totally welcome to further comment on
it, FWIW! (Especially because it doesn't seem like a bug that should be
fixed in Ubuntu, so it likely won't be marked as server-next).

Thanks!

To be clear, this one was fixed in the new release and for the SRU
waits for the reporter to verify in his test environment.
There isn't much "we" can do about it, but maybe someone on this list
has a matching environment and can help verifying this?
I'm dropping server-next as it isn't waiting for us.

The upstream repo seems not very active, has a debian/* dir but not
even a ITP bug for it AFAICS.

Monday bug triage

2020-11-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
21 bugs for this Monday triage. About half were new bugs or needed
attention in some way (mostly questions for clarifications). Of those,
only these are worth particular mention:

* LP: #1905048: (samba hirsute) Request for merge to unblock migration
  - seb128 and doko are prompting for samba merge to unblock python3.9
transition.

* LP: #1905000: (realmd (samba?)) wrong krb5.keytab (missing subdomain)
  - This is a bit over my head, but looks like either an advanced
realm/samba/winbind configuration or maybe a less well supported a
corner case. In any case, the report feels terse on details, and
googling failed to educate me adequately, so I've asked for more
explaination / pointers.

* LP: #1905109: (php-defaults : bionic) SameSite None not supported
  - Asked user for some clarification.
  - Guessing there's a patch needing backported

* LP: #1890332: (libseccomp : focal) apt update fails on gpg sig
  - Probably just a local system irregularity, pointed him at community
support. However I think this might be hiding a legit underlying
issue, so left as Incomplete. If true, there's a couple upstream
patches to maybe look into.

* LP: #1855318: (autofs)  autofs looks for .xdg-volume-info, autorun.inf
  - A commenter points out it's more likely a bug in gvfs, which makes
sense given the context. I've reassigned to that project.

* LP: #1905030: (freeradius) freeradius-mysql failed to install/upgrade
  - No error msg collected, asked for journalctl details
  - Noticed kernel faults in dmesg, might be something deeper...

* LP: #1857584: (mysql-8.0, focal) port 33060 listening by default
  - Identified this only affects focal
  - Agree with Robie this needs better justification to warrant SRU

This is already fixed in the packaging development branch. It might be
worth fixing in stable releases, but that needs checking and separate
justification since it will by definition regress users to change it. I
commented in the bug.

Note that you can reproduce this kind of thing without having to
actually install anything by using chdist(1) like this (once set up):
"chdist apt-get bionic -s install nodejs npm libmysqlclient-dev".

This is a known issue in the major version of Node shipped in Bionic.
It's a consequence of some unfortunate upstream ABI choices. I
commented, linked bugs, and marked the duplicate.

Monday bug triage - 11/17 & 4/20

2020-11-17 Thread Bryce Harrington
I covered Monday triage for Sergio this week.
I also covered an old Monday triage card for Andreas, from April, which
had two still-untriaged bugs.

Bugs worth a mention:
-
LP: #1855318 - (Expired)[autofs] - autofs tries to find
.xdg-volume-info and autorun.inf

  - Reopened due to a bit more info.
  - Really I think this needs sent upstream.

LP: #1857584 - (Confirmed) [mysql-8.0] - MySQL X protocol port 33060
listening on network by default

  - Is marked as security issue
  - Sounds like may just need adjustment to default config file
  - Marked server-next for further investigation

LP: #1904235 - (New)[targetcli-fb] - targetctl hanging

  - Seems to trigger by a zfs device losing network
  - We'll need more info to reproduce the conditions; I've requested
  - Set as Incomplete

LP: #1904089 - (New)[cherrypy3] -
python3-cherrypy3_8.9.1-6_all seems to require a non-existent dependency

  - User locally installed latest cherrypy3 from upstream, and found
that Ubuntu doesn't provide its required dependencies.
  - Invalid & suggested not to mix and match.

LP: #1873608 - (New)[mysql-5.7] - libmysqlclient-dev prevents
npm/nodejs

  - Some sort of obscure Conflicts / Breaks situation maybe?
  - Requested logs and cut-and-paste of output; set to Incomplete

No need to sub me as I'm already subbed to all NGINX bugs, just poke me.

Regarding the bug, though, this is Won't Fix.  The compile time prefixes
are set by Debian, and NGINX Upstream does something similar with their
prebuilt packages.  All the prefixes the bug poster indicated are
erroring on can be overridden with the proper nginx.conf options - so
the original poster needs to dig into the nginx documentation and with
their CUSTOMIZED nginx.conf override the prefixes with the proper
configuration arguments.  That applies to almost all nginx options that
have a precoded, compile-time prefix path.  Easily overridden with the
proper configuration arguments.

So, I finished the triage on that bug - it's been Won't Fix'd by me
because we're not going to remove those compile time prefix options.  To
remove them would introduce breakages to things that aren't set by
default, and I can't begin to determine the scope of the breakage.  It'd
also add another substantial divergence from Debian, and since NGINX
upstream does similar configuration prefix setting at compile time in
their repositories, it's not going to be 'removed' when the person in
question can just override those prefixes with custom configuration
arguments in their (sparse) nginx.conf.

Monday bug triage duty - 12th October 2020

2020-10-12 Thread Christian Ehrhardt
I was looking at 23 bugs that got touched the last three days.
As usual most were due to updates to bugs being worked on, this time I also
had five waiting for feedback but expiring :-/

Worth mentioning were:

1846947 samba profiling
We have waited for use-cases and finally got those, now this is up to a
discussion with debian - subscribed the team, but still prio:wishlist

1896740 bind
This was a crash that needed a user testing - it is now actionable again.
I'll take a look as I have provided the PPA a while ago.

1899180 libvirt
autopkgtest degradation in bionic that I need to look into.
Subscribed and tagged server-next

1899363 samba
Incomplete due to a lack of details, but it is about an +esm upgrade
and to some extent I wonder how we are supposed (are we) to help on these?

1899164 nginx
A rather detailed report about build time options, I subscribed the team.
But lacking the background details I also subscribed teward (who knows much
better) and asked him to comment.

Just to make a note, this is on my radar to be updated in Gorilla.  SRU
for this needs analyzed to see if there's any 'new features' that need
additional scrutiny.

This said, I'm working on some major packaging shifts to make the
configuration more pluggable and to split out some bits into separate
configuration files (similar to how Dovecot splits out core
configuration bits).  This will effectively make us extremely diverged
from Debian, but I haven't seen much movement on their front lately.
I'm going to open a separate discussion on those proposed changes and
updates to the nginx packaging and layout of conf.d inclusions later.
I'm not ready to share my prototype yet, but I had preliminarily
discussed this with Seth Arnold and he thought it was a good idea to
make things more 'pluggable' from a config perspective and to split some
config bits out into conf.d inclusions.
