Re: New Ubuntu Server Guide Live
Hi all Sorry this is quite a delayed update, but the publishing issue for the server guide was fixed by IS on 29th April, and has been building daily ever since. You can always find the latest version of the PDF with the link https://assets.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-server-guide. The guide now includes text at the very bottom saying e.g. "PDF generated on 2020-05-07 03:53:16", so you can see how fresh the content is. Let me know if you find any more issues with this. There was an issue with a big spew of the URL stuff on the navigation page from the discourse source. That was late last night (pages 4-6): https://assets.ubuntu.com/v1/59989c24-ubuntu-server-guide.pdf But I see the entire navigation page is gone this morning, which makes sense as the table of contents tab can be used. ... Hi all Yes I'm afraid our script broke because of a change in the Discourse API a while ago, but now it turns out there were a couple of issues on top of that too. A couple of months ago IS put a new content-cache in front of our sites and it further broke the script in two ways. We will be adding a date to the PDF so you can see when it was generated, so you could notice that it wasn't updating every day and let us know. The last blocker should be the resolution of this RT, which will hopefully happen today: https://portal.admin.canonical.com/C125530/ I'll let you know when the job is working again, at which point the PDF should hopefully be published daily again. We talked about fixing that as well as adding a "generated at " into the PDF to spot such issues more easily. Maybe that is why Josh updated the link? There might be something missing on the virt-tools page. Other than the majority of pages around it it was created by me (a split from other virt* pages). I have added the tags to the page and links from the introduction to finally confirm it was rendered into HTML. But I never checked the PDF, maybe there is some other tweak yet unknown to me needed to properly render it into PDF as well. O.K. thanks for explaining. For my part of it, the reason I like virt-install is because it is a command line tool, and therefore good for a server, with no GUI. I only use Ubuntu linux for servers. In the context of being the libvirt page it was overflowing and hard to find actual libvirt centric information. First of all I have to admit that I do not like virt-inst too much (but that is my personal problem I guess). virt-install is only in universe but people tend to rely on it (too much), causes continuous problems (silly/odd bug reports often come from this area), and tends to get people not realizing the much more consumable cloud images. But nevertheless what you are missing isn't gone forever anyway. I have a set of further todos here to go further in this cycles doc update, that will probably: - split out virtinst/virt-clone to an extra page (as it is an alternative to uvtool / multipass that have extra pages as well) - There I plan to bring back that content that you are missing atm - Split virt-manager / virt-viewer to their own page as well (then it might have space for some screenshots) - For the libvirt page itself there are other topics that much more make sense there (not sure how much of them I'll get covered) - apparmor integration in libvirt and customizing it - huge page usage through libvirt - some extra content on passthrough - ...
