[Bug 703811] Re: kvm guest's cpu usage with virtio storage driver goes up to 100% because of flush process

2011-03-01 Thread Roman R
I dont have any raids configured at my laptop but had on my production server
and the reason, the reason why i've installed kvm on laptop was that i was
thinking that its raid problem :)
and to reproduce (for me) only i've got to do is fresh ubuntu installation with
kvm.
i dont know, may be its up to my hardware specs and some of kvm / libvirt code
part. but the patch u've provided seems to solve the problem. so there must be
something in the changelog

[Bug 711534] Re: euca-upload-bundle fails when connecting to Eucalyptus and a path in bucket is specified

2011-03-01 Thread Neil Soman
The command specified in the bug report doesn't work with AWS S3 unless
the user has actually created the bucket somehow. I just tested this.

For instance, if you use the option "-b mybucket/abcd/efgh" S3 will
correctly interpret this request (PUT to mybucket/abcd/efgh) as an empty
put to the bucket "mybucket" with the keyname "abcd/efgh." Which is
correct behavior.

The user must have already have a bucket, "mybucket." Otherwise the key
"abcd/efgh" cannot be created because the bucket does not exist. Before
the key can be created, the bucket needs to be created with a PUT to
"mybucket"

"/"s are not allowed in the bucket name. The "/" is interpreted as part
of the key. The bucket must exist for that key to be created.

So the bug report is partly right and partly wrong.

The real bug is that Walrus should be returning a 404 and not a 400 when
someone tries to access "mybucket/abcd/efgh" if the bucket does not
exist.

The command will not work on S3 or against Walrus if the bucket (the
part of the string before the first "/") was never created, but the
right error to send back is a 404 (no such bucket) and not a 400 (bad
request).

This is fixed in revno 1257 in lp:eucalyptus.

Hope all this makes sense,
neil

[Bug 727478] Re: mysql upgrade hang at 'installing new version of config file /etc/init/mysql.conf' during upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04

2011-03-01 Thread Jamie Strandboge
So, during the upgrade, mysql does get 'stuck' on:
Setting up mysql-client-5.1 (5.1.54-1ubuntu4) ...
Setting up mysql-server-5.1 (5.1.54-1ubuntu4) ...
Installing new version of config file /etc/init/mysql.conf ...

The upstart job keeps running the pre-start script every 30 seconds, but no
change to the profile makes this go away. In fact, the profile should be good
enough as is:
$ sudo apparmor_parser -p /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld |grep network
  network inet stream,
  network inet6 stream,
  network inet dgram,
  network inet6 dgram,
  network tcp,

This seems like a maverick kernel vs natty apparmor userspace issue.

[Bug 590201] Re: OpenSolaris (previously working) no longer boots: kernel panics early

2011-03-01 Thread Ed Hynan
OK Serge, I've tried that kernel and it didn't help except
maybe with a dmesg line that looks new (I might have
just missed it).

1) With my long kvm invocation, I got the OSol kernel
panic output shown in the .png attachment to an
earlier message; but, also this line dmesg:

  [ 210.924821] kvm: 2594: cpu0 unhandled rdmsr: 0xc0011023

2) With the short commandline you posted a few days ago
the OSol kernel doesn't panic but attempts a BSDish dump, and
no dump device is configured so it just stops. I will attach a
.png of the visible last lines of that. In this case the dmesg
line is not "unhandled rdmsr", but instead:

[ 580.689021] kvm: emulating exchange as write

Something looks interesting: in 1) kvm says "unhandled rdmsr",
and in 2) the kernel call trace shows a few symbols with
'wrmsr' (see attached .png). Error regarding a model specific
register? I don't have experience at this low level so I am
only hoping there's a clue here.

-Ed

[Bug 727435] Re: Unable to access USB devices from WinXP under KVM/libvirt

2011-03-01 Thread Alex Stark
The USB device that I plugged in (1b1c:0ab1) is a Corsair Voyager memory
stick. Similar problems (the lack of permission to access the device)
were encountered with a Sennheiser USB headset (1395:3556).

Command line used:

kvm -usbdevice host:1b1c:0ab1

Hi Ed,

that may actually be good news. Could you try the kernel from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/714335/comments/30
on your AMD lucid host and see if that fixes the opensolaris boots?

Please do open bugs for those against the kernel and display drivers
for those, if you haven't already.

[Bug 590201] Re: OpenSolaris (previously working) no longer boots: kernel panics early

2011-03-01 Thread Ed Hynan
Serge,

The problem must be related to the hardware. The machine I have the bug
on is a laptop w/ AMD Turion cpu, ATI/AMD chips (RS690, SB600). As you
said it works for you on an Intel laptop, I've managed to try the same VM
image on a HP laptop w/ Intel Core quad, Ubuntu 10.04 fully updated, and
it is working.

Note that the AMD machine still has a Ubuntu 9.04 _not_ updated, and kvm
runs the OpenSolaris VM with that, just not with 10.04 or 10.10; moreover,
VirtualBoxOSE will run the _same_ VM image under 10.04 and 10.10.
So, the problem must be between the hardware and some kernel and/or kvm
that appeared with or shortly after the 10.04 release.

Note also that that since 10.10 there are other problems, such as that display
brightness or pm suspend do not work if booted on main power, but _do_ work
if booted on battery. The kernel has regressed for that hardware.

>> I suspect, however, that this is another bug manifesting itself only
>> on AMD.

I should have tried on Intel sooner. Still, it isn't strictly a hardware
problem -
the older software worked.

- Ed

I am attaching a build script that uses a partitions file to demonstrate
the issue. When you run this script, the traceback that I listed doesn't
occur (not sure why). However, the built machine does still complain
about /dev/sda2, and you can verify that it does not have swap.

[Bug 584229] Re: missing named filter/service patterns

2011-03-01 Thread Steve Beattie
Ah, and it looks like the "success resolving after reducing the
advertised EDNS UDP packet size" pattern got fixed in "success resolving
after reducing the advertised EDNS UDP packet size" pattern in
http://logwatch.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/logwatch/scripts/services/named?r1=1&r2=3
.

[Bug 584229] Re: missing named filter/service patterns

2011-03-01 Thread Steve Beattie
It looks like, with the exception of the added "success resolving after
reducing the advertised EDNS UDP packet size" pattern, these issues got
fixed upstream differently in
http://logwatch.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/logwatch/scripts/services/named?r1=11&r2=15
; however, those fixes have not propagated back down through the debian
package.

[Bug 579892] Re: libvirt should not use the MAC address assigned to tap devices/vnet interfaces by the TAP/TUN driver

2011-03-01 Thread Marcelo Fernandez
@Serge,

Yes, I've using that suggestion (pre-up ) in the
/etc/network/interfaces file of the KVM Host, and the "interface freeze"
problem disappeared since I added that line, a month ago.

I'd recommend to use it and check if it works for you too.

Regards,
Marcelo

[Bug 726927] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-03-01 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi There,

Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better.

For what I can see in the logs, it failed due to the following:

Config error: expected an equals, got: {
: line 88, col 9 of file /etc/bacula/bacula-dir.conf

This leads us to believe that there was an error in the configuration
file. Please verify that the configuration file is correct and try to
resinstall bacula or use the following:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

Also, if possible please provide the bacula-dir.conf file or the lines
specified by the error, which will allows us to determine in further
detail the cause of the issue.

For now, I'm marking this bug report as Incomplete until further
information is provided.

2011-03-01 Thread Andres Rodriguez
HI Sergio,

Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better.

For what I can see in the logs, it seems that MySQL was not started or
it failed to start cause bacula to be unable to connect to mysql. This is
show by:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2).

Could you please verify first if MySQL is up and running, and you can
connect to the database manually. Once you do try to remove and
reinstall bacula, or the following to try to reconfigure it:

sudo dpkg --configure -a.

If the above doesn't work, please remove and reinstall bacula.

I'm marking this bug as Incomplete until more information is provided.

Best regards,

[Bug 531912] Re: /etc/init.d/ssh seems to work, but actually upstart is used.

2011-03-01 Thread ingo
> At least the fix for this bit of Upstart badness is easy enough, just
remove /etc/init/ssh and start sshd with the script in init.d. Perhaps
it's not as architecturally elegant as Upstart ...

Perhaps Ubuntu maintainers are not aware of the importance of sshd in
general? sshd is vital on remote machines/servers which are running
without screen and keyboard. ssh is the (almost) only access and that
has to be reliable! It has to be up as the first daemon as soon as
networking is configured and has to be the last service to be stopped on
shut down - and it has to restart itself in case of unforseen
interruptions.

Moving such a service to upstart at the moment is lightheaded and
disqualifies Ubuntu for servers.

2011-03-01 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi David,

Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better.

Now, for what I can see in DpkgTerminalLog, the issue appears to be with
MySQL. The log shows the following:

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password:
YES).
unable to connect to mysql server.

Which leads me to believe that you don't have MySQL installed, it has
not started, or simply you input the incorrect password when requested.
Could you please confirm that:

 - MySQL has been installed.
 - MySQL is running and password has been set correctly and you can log into
the database with it.
 - That you Input the correct password for bacula. To retry I believe that the
following command should work:

sudo dpkg --configure -a

You could also provide an step-by-step to be able to reproduce this
issue correctly if possible.

I'm marking this bug as Incomplete until more information is provided.

[Bug 579892] Re: libvirt should not use the MAC address assigned to tap devices/vnet interfaces by the TAP/TUN driver

2011-03-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Marcelo,

regarding comment #11: it sure sounds like a good workaround. Have you
been using it, and can you verify that it works for you?

** Description changed:

On Ubuntu 10.04 I have problems using libvirt with a bridge because the
TUN devices get random mac addresses and thus, change the bridge device
mac address, which takes the lower mac addres of all devices attached to
the bridge. The main and most critical problem is that, sometimes, we
lose network connectivity for several seconds (usually 10-20 seconds) on
the libvirt host and all its guests when a guest is powered off.

Searching for similar problems I found my problem described at
  https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=571991

- Impact: Random loss of network connectivity on guest power on/off.
+ =
+ SRU Justification:

- Fix: This bug was fixed upstream and in maverick, using the same patch
- (modulo porting0 which is added by the debdiff attached here. It
- forces libvirt to ensure that the bridge mac address is lower than
- that of any of its devices.

[Bug 722815] Re: apparmor prevents ntp from reading gpsd

2011-03-01 Thread Lefteris
A quick hack (not recommended though as it most likely gives ntpd access
to shm and opens up a security hole) is to edit
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/ntpd and use:

@{NTPD_DEVICE}="/proc/sysvipc/shm"

[Bug 716659] Re: Root filesystem goes "Read only" after installing multipath-tools on Lucid

2011-03-01 Thread Peter Petrakis
>From examining the output and can see why the blacklist was
defined in this manner, and how to correct it.

Also, since the luns are reporting themselves as DGC, specifying
a configuration for SYMMETRIX just won't work. Clarion and
Symmetrix are completely different animals from what I gather.

Attached is a new multipath.conf (rename it correctly before
moving to etc) that contains what I believe to be the configuration
they're trying to achieve. Unfortunately, this is array is so configurable,
all this effort could be a waste if it's not setup correctly.

Should this config not work, try deleting the 'devices' section
entirely and reboot. Multipath carries a configuration for DGC
already that might work.

# echo 'show config' | multipathd -k
...
device {
vendor DGC
product .*
product_blacklist LUNZ
path_grouping_policy group_by_prio
path_checker emc_clariion
features 1 queue_if_no_path
hardware_handler 1 emc
prio_callout /sbin/mpath_prio_emc /dev/%n
failback immediate
no_path_retry 60
}

Failing that I would suggest that the customer make the array work with
powerpath first, so we know the HW is configured correctly, and then
we can try again with multipath.

[Bug 590201] Re: OpenSolaris (previously working) no longer boots: kernel panics early

2011-03-01 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Ed,

opensolaris is booting fine for me in an uptodate maverick system on
an intel laptop. Can you please give the precise steps you followed
in your test on 10.10? URL for iso's, and any non-default steps you
took in the installer?

I suspect, however, that this is another bug manifesting itself only
on AMD.

[Bug 725312] Re: package dovecot-common 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-03-01 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi!

Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu Server better.

Unfortunately I'm unable to reproduce the issue you are experiencing.
Could you please try the following:

Once that is finished, try the following, which will try to configure any
unconfigured packages:
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Try to install any missing packages:
sudo apt-get -f install

Now I also notice one thing in DpkgTerminalLog that might be the cause
of error:

1. hostname: Name or service not known

Please verify that the hostname utility is installed and the hostname of
your machine is correctly set.

If you can provide exact instructions on how to reproduce the bug it
will be more helpful for us to determine the issue.

For now I'm marking this bug as incomplete.

Thank you!
