[Bug 110992] Re: ipmi modules need to manually inserted and device created
Ok... so further investigation: Fresh Natty install on an IBM server with BMC using the latest ISOs as of 8 March. Looking in /lib/modules/2.6.38-5-generic/kernel/drivers/char/ipmi/ shows that the drivers are present. No IPMI packages are installed: First I install ipmitool: ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ipmitool Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Suggested packages: openipmi The following NEW packages will be installed: ipmitool 0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 13 not upgraded. Need to get 418 kB of archives. After this operation, 1,118 kB of additional disk space will be used. Get:1 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/universe ipmitool amd64 1.8.11-2ubuntu3 [418 kB] Fetched 418 kB in 0s (431 kB/s) ySelecting previously deselected package ipmitool. Setting up ipmitool (1.8.11-2ubuntu3) ... ipmievd: using pidfile /var/run/ipmievd.pid0 Could not open device at /dev/ipmi0 or /dev/ipmi/0 or /dev/ipmidev/0: No such file or directory Unable to open interface invoke-rc.d: initscript ipmievd, action "start" failed. Unable to start ipmievd during installation. Trying to disable. Also note that installing ipmitool does not install any other packages at all. These errors happened because /dev/ipmi0 is not created... that requires ipmi_devmntf to be loaded. One would think that since I just installed ipmitool, which includes ipmievd to pass BMC messages on to syslog, that as soon as I reboot, the modules would be loaded, /dev/ipmi0 would be created and everthing would be copacetic. So after installing ipmitool and verifying that ipmievd was not running, /dev/ipmi0 was not there, and the modules were not loaded, I rebooted the server to see what would happen. ipmi modules are NOT loaded, ipmievd is not started, and /dev/ipmi0 is not created, thus, nothing. Now I install the openipmi package (which is NOT pulled in by installing ipmitool): ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install openipmi Reading package lists... [Bug 730259] Re: tomcat6-instance-create does not behave properly on setting a value less than 1024 for the control port
Hi there, Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better. Given that it is a known fact that non-root services cannot run in port higher than 1024, and not being a real issue and rather a usability bug, I believe that this bug report doesn't really affect the functioning of tomcat. Furthermore, as this is a known fact, maybe the logs have displayed the error message you were seeking for. However, It can still be possible to run tomcat in "higher ports". This information can be found at [1]. For this reason, I'm marking this bug as incomplete as it doesn't really affect the functionality of tomcat. [Bug 731324] Re: apt-get purge exim4 doesn't delete Debian-exim4 account
Hi there, Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better. I can confirm that in fact when purging the package the user is not removed, however this has been done for a reason which is explained in Debian bug #270681 ([1]), and as per changelog entry: "Do not remove the Debian-exim user in "exim4-config.postrm purge". Package dependencies are only effective for packages in status installed, but it is clearly not sane to remove the user until all exim4-packages are purged. e.g. this can completely break logrotate (Closes: #270681)." I, however, am leaving this bug report open as maybe a better fix for this can be achieved. Hello Christian, thank you for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better. It would appear that you have configured squid to use a user that does not exist. By default, squid will run as 'proxy' with group 'proxy', but if you have set cache_effective_user or cache_effective_group to something else (squid:squid seems to be what you selected above), then it will try to modify the permissions to match that. [Bug 729288] Re: squid failed to restart after update to squid 2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu12.2
I've been unable to reproduce this, but there are a ton of duplicates so there is no doubt that there is something wrong with the lucid updates. I actually think this is directly related to bug #736348 . By calling 'restart' directly, we are not re-loading the new job file. So until the system is rebooted, squid will still be run with 'expect fork' and without -N. I am suspicious that this is just exposing *more* issues with the way that squid forks, since the bug we were originally trying to fix involves how squid handles SIGHUP, its conceivable that it handles SIGTERM in a way that is incompatible w/ upstart's expect fork as well. I'm not ready to mark this as a duplicate of that bug, but I think it may be. I'm hoping somebody can provide us with some more information regarding the state of their system *before* the upgrade, that may suggest what state causes the restart to fail. In the mean time, it makes sense to get that fix into natty for testing, especially as people start to try natty out as it approaches beta. It also seems at least one person has hit upstart bug #406397 , which also suggests further that this is caused by mixing expect fork with daemons that don't fork in the way upstart suggests. Unfortunately that is a particularly nasty bug whose only workaround is to make a program that forks until the pid that has gone missing can be recreated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to squid in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/729288 Title: squid failed to restart after update to squid 2.7.STABLE7-1ubuntu12.2 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
