[Bug 1072899] Re: vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable

2012-10-30 Thread Thomas Hood
Yes, it looks as if the problem is that NM is forgetting the second
nameserver address.

Can you reproduce this malfunction with the Quantal version of network-
manager?

** Package changed: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) => network-manager (Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable
+ Using NM and dnsmasq, although two nameserver addresses are provided for my
VPN, host lookups fail if the first server is not reachable

This would seem to indicate a network-manager problem, rather than one
with dnsmasq.

I believe that you might be able to replicate this bug by setting up a
vpn in "Automatic (VPN) addresses only" mode and specifying two DNS
server addresses (one valid and one not). See attached image for
example.

[Bug 1071910] Re: lxc stop will hang forever

2012-10-30 Thread Tim
Thanks for your suggestion Serge,

I believe I just solved the issue, except for the part I was seeing with
lvremove which appears to have some relation to:
udevd[7497]: timeout: killing 'watershed sh -c '/sbin/lvm vgscan; /sbin/lvm
vgchange -a y'' [11645]
udevd[7497]: 'watershed sh -c '/sbin/lvm vgscan; /sbin/lvm vgchange -a y''
[11645] terminated by signal 9 (Killed)

I solved the lxc hanging issue by upgrading to kernel 3.5.7 from 3.5.0 -
I tested over 120 iterations without issue, but I'll try your suggestion
and re-open this bug if my testing was insufficient

[Bug 1073287] [NEW] tgt-admin fails to read configuration

Public bug reported:

Hello,

It seems that configuration fails to read files inside the
/var/lib/maas/ephemeral/tgt.conf.d/ directory.

I was looking around and seems it's a globbing problem of the python

I updated config to include the exact *.conf files and with this change
everything works.
I installed the MAAS server from the quantal distribution.

[Bug 1071910] Re: lxc stop will hang forever

2012-10-30 Thread Tim
** Description changed:

  Background:
This is issue occurs during an automated process and occurs with a 1/20
chance per iteration
I have one lxc-container on the machine
It is backed with an lvm2 snapshot
Running on ubuntu 12.10 on ec2 small instance - upgraded from 12.04 fresh
instance
This is a new issue that has occurred after migrating my code from 11.10

  Process:
  create snapshot "lvcreate"
  mount snapshot "mount"
  lxc-start
  do actions in container
  lxc-stop
  unmount snapshot "umount"
  remove snapshot "lvremove"
  -repeat

The issue can occur at either lxc-stop or lvremove.

  when it occurs with lxc-stop:
ps -A reveals that lxc-start is still running along with kdmflush, kjournald,
and init that appears to be the init process for the container
kdmflush, kjournald, init or it's sub-processes cannot be killed with "kill
-9 pid" but lxc-start can

when it occurs with lvremove it occurs after lvremove is called again after
failing the first time with stderr:
Using logical volume(s) on command line
- Archiving volume group "vmg1" metadata (seqno 272).

lvremove spawns the lvm process and neither can be killed with "kill -9
pid" which indicates to me that they are waiting for something from the
kernel, and I am guessing this happens because of the same reason why
lxc-stop also hangs, and the containers processes can not be killed.

- This is all I can report for now, but I'll try getting some log info
- from lxc next Friday, let me know if you have any suggestions in the
- meantime.
+ Here is an excerpt from the syslog - lxc-stop hangs because of this
+ kernel error, and the error doesn't always occur on the cat command, it
+ can happen on others as well.

[Bug 1073159] Re: Please backport tomcat7 7.0.30-0ubuntu1 (main) from raring

2012-10-30 Thread Logan Rosen
** Summary changed:

- tomcat7 7.0.30 (or newer) should be backported to precise
+ Please backport tomcat7 7.0.30-0ubuntu1 (main) from raring

** Description changed:

+ Please backport tomcat7 7.0.30-0ubuntu1 (main) from raring to precise.
+
+ Reason for the backport:
+
Currently tomcat7 on precise is 7.0.26
  quantal an roaring providing 7.0.30

In my opinion it would be good to have the most current tomcat7 version also
in precise-backports.
The goal should be providing the latest tomcat7 stable release also via
backports in the LTS release of ubuntu.

The number of fixes is still impressing :-)

+
+ Testing:
+
+ Mark off items in the checklist [X] as you test them, but please leave the
checklist so that backporters can quickly evaluate the state of testing.

of tomcat7. For reverse-build-dependencies (-Indep), please test that the

Just for clarity, could you describe how you upgraded?
The ami reported here is 'ebs/ubuntu-maverick-10.10-i386-server-20101225'
Meanting to upgrade to 12.04, you would have first had to upgrade to 11.04
then 11.10, then 12.04.

I needed to have a clean file-system for the container that had a different set
of software available than the host OS.

Tomcat7 is a java application with isolated dependencies. So there shouldn't be
any real changes needed to adopt the quantal/roaring packages to precise.

[Bug 1073159] [NEW] tomcat7 7.0.30 (or newer) should be backported to precise

2012-10-30 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
Public bug reported:

Currently tomcat7 on precise is 7.0.26
quantal an roaring providing 7.0.30

In my opinion it would be good to have the most current tomcat7 version also in
precise-backports.
The goal should be providing the latest tomcat7 stable release also via
backports in the LTS release of ubuntu.

The number of fixes is still impressing :-)

[Bug 1072085] Re: attempt to execute non-executable temporary file during package installation

2012-10-30 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I am unable to reproduce this problem on a fresh and updated 12.04 cloud
instance. Based on the error message, it looks like this problem came
out of debconf rather than from the exim4 package. Since it seems likely
to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If this is indeed a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
and then change the bug status back to New.

Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:

+ and take advantage of the fast copy-on-right cloning of block devices
+ supported in Ceph Bobtail. He is able to deploy this using Juju and MaaS
+ on hardware on Ubuntu 12.04 using the Grizzly Cloud Archive.
+
+ Ben wants to deploy an Ubuntu archive mirror in his new public cloud.
+ He's able todo this using Juju with Ceph and the RADOS gateway charms
+ using the existing tooling he uses for managing his archive mirror in
+ Amazon ec2.
+
+ Tanya wants to use the upstart integration for Ceph with XFS as the
+ underlying filesystem. She is able todo this using the packages in
+ Ubuntu 13.04.
+
+ James want to ensure the quality of the Ceph packages in the Ubuntu
+ archive at all times; as the packages include DEP-8 tests these are used
+ to gate uploads into the main development archive.
+
+ Toby wants to use an LTS release of Ceph with Openstack Folsom on Ubuntu
+ 12.04. The cloud archive provides him with the required packages.
+
+ Out of scope:
+
+ Ceph RADOS Gateway integration with Openstack Keystone to replace Swift.
+
  Risks:
+
+ Insufficent hardware resources to perform multi-node testing of Ceph on
hardware.
+ Upgrade path to Ceph with upstart breaks badly.
+ Openstack integration with Ceph breaks during Grizzly development.

  Test Plans:

Ceph as a backend for Openstack in the Openstack CI Lab providing per-
commit testing of Openstack with Ceph.

DEP-8 automated testing of Ceph providing gated entry of Ceph packages

+
+ Multi-node testing of Ceph on a regular basis using Juju charms.

  Release Note:

Ubuntu 13.04 include the latest Ceph LTS release, 0.5x.x 'Bobtail'.
This release includes support for fast copy-on-write cloning of Ceph
RADOS block devices and performance and stability improvements in Ceph
OSD. The packaging also include upstart configurations for Ceph which

[Bug 1073082] [NEW] Login always warns about fsck, but doesn't actually fsck on reboot

2012-10-30 Thread Marti
Public bug reported:

After upgrading my Amazon VM to Ubuntu 12.04, every time I log in I get the
following warning:
*** /dev/xvda1 will be checked for errors at next reboot ***

Normally this warning should go away when rebooting with the "reboot"
command -- the FS should be checked at next startup as explained by the
warning. But this doesn't seem to happen when I reboot my VM.

[Bug 1073077] [NEW] zsh complains about locale_warn on launch

2012-10-30 Thread Marti
Public bug reported:

After upgrading my Amazon machine to Ubuntu 12.04, every time I run zsh I get
the following output:
locale_warn:13: * not found

Apparenlty this is caused by the file /etc/profile.d/Z99-cloud-locale-
test.sh in the cloud-init package. zsh always outputs an error when a
glob like * fails to match any files.

[Bug 1072899] Re: vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable

2012-10-30 Thread Thomas Hood
> I would have expected the DNS lookup to fall back to the second server
when it failed to receive a reply from the first server instead of just
giving up.

What is the output of "cat /etc/resolv.conf"?

What happens if you do "ping glenn.kl.imgtec.org"?
