Absolutely bugfix only, and even then we didn't choose to backport
several less critical bugs.

Thanks. 1.2.1 is the last of the 1.2.x series, the next version will
be 1.3 which will ship after Trusty so is not relevant.

[Bug 1284793] Re: [FFE] Merge qemu 2.0

2014-03-06 Thread Gizmo Chicken
Hi Serge,

I downloaded ALL of the test debs at
http://people.canonical.com/~serge/qemu-20140306-1/ and then installed
ALL of them using the "sudo dpkg -i *.deb" command. That's what you had
in mind, right?

Anyway, the good news is that the provided test version of Qemu 2.0.
seems to have fixed the problem that I previously reported with VFIO.
That is, my VM now seems to be properly running under KVM with VGA
passthrough using the VFIO option. Of course, I haven't thoroughly
tested for other issues, but VFIO does seem to be working.

Will you be updating ppa:ubuntu-virt/candidate to include this fix any
time soon? I'd much prefer installing subsequent updates using the
ppa.

Regards,
GizmoChicken

I see. I've just pushed the customized patch to the archive. We can
switch to the original patchset though. But, I'd also like to see what
ends up hitting upstream.

[Bug 1285363] Re: qemu-aarch64-static segfaults

2014-03-06 Thread Peter Maydell
Doing this only for aarch64 targets seems like a bad idea to me -- this
isn't an aarch64 specific issue. QEMU needs SIGSEGV to go to its own
handler (so we can unprotect pages we've marked as read-only in order to
catch guest writes to them so we can throw away invalidated translated
code), and that's true for all targets. It probably just happens more
often on the aarch64 target than others you've tested because aarch64
has a signal-return trampoline on the stack frame, so we'll often see
that page get translated and thrown away again. (Other targets with a
trampoline include sparc, cris, openrisc and ppc.)

PS: the comment "this is not required for qemu to work" just means that
QEMU will work fine whether we tell the guest a lie about what's going
on with SIGSEGV in one way (saying "it's blocked") or the other (saying
"it's not blocked").

[Bug 1185261] Re: MaaS nodes being enlisted with multiple network cards fail to commission

2014-03-06 Thread Daniel Jones
I have ran into issues regarding this. To give some background a large
majority of my server NICs are connected to VLAN specific ports on my
switches. If MAAS chooses to use a NIC that is configured to use a
different VLAN than the MAAS controller there will be no traffic
obviously. You should be able to choose which NIC you want to be used as
a primary and even specify static IP information if desired after a node
has enlisted. Even if this "static" IP is just a static assignment via
DHCP.

[Bug 1287224] Re: MAAS random generated hostnames are not pronounceable

2014-03-06 Thread Julian Edwards
I am with Dave on this. We aim to have 100s of thousands of machines in
MAAS's realm at some point; pronounceable names have never been brought
up before and I can't see what advantage it brings to cloud-like
resources.

If someone is *desperate* for a pronounceable name in MAAS, there is
nothing stopping them from editing the node in maas which produces a new
CNAME.

My thoughts on offensiveness are that it's such a minefield it's better
to stay far far away. People are too thin skinned and moan about the
slightest thing.

[Bug 1235231] Re: plymouth loses output to /dev/console (such as ci-info: messages)

2014-03-06 Thread Scott Moser
Using a build from current lp:ubuntu/plymouth that has steve's fix for
bug 1160079 inside it, I no longer am losing data written to the
console!

I've tested this in a trusty kvm local image.
disk-patched.img had the new debs installed
disk-unpatched.img did not.
both images had https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=89759 run on
them (so the logging init-wrapper was in place).

[Bug 1288841] [NEW] l3-agent (dis)associate floatingip only after restart

2014-03-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi

We use openstack havana from the saucy repositories

After an update the neutron-l3-agent did not (dis)associate floatingips.
Only after restart the service the changes are applied.

The package-version is:
neutron-l3-agent 1:2013.2.1-0ubuntu1

The neutron server sends the request to the queue:

[Bug 1287224] Re: MAAS random generated hostnames are not pronounceable

2014-03-06 Thread Dave Walker
Whilst this seems like a reasonably good idea for small deployments and
demo, it doesn't really add value to the larger picture of hyperscale
IMO. It steers towards treating the machines as pets, rather than
cattle.

It's harder to kill a node named cutekitten, than sa47ghs. Try it. :) ..
nodes should be easily expendable.

With the primary interface for deployed nodes being juju it distracts
away from the juju model of "$ juju ssh 3", where juju should be
abstracting away the hostname. This encourages direct access.

There doesn't necessarily need to be a 1:1 mapping between machine name
to hostname. If there is value in having friendly names for a node,
this could be via alias or CNAME - with a functional representation..
such as dbserver1.example.org. This can also be moved between nodes, if
the workload migrates.

What would have my interest is physical placement node names.. such as
CountryCampusOfficeRackShelf (ie uklnbluefin1a).. THEN things get
interesting.. but solving that, means you've solved the MAAS<-->physical
identification conundrum. :)

What happens when the initial pool is exhausted? Should decommissioned
friendly hostnames be recycled? Excluding the 7 vulgar words already
discussed, would you be willing to accept responsibility for insuring
that other inappropriate words are not used? Note, that formal
genitilia names, God+Jesus+Mohamed+Buddha etc (which I could see people
finding offensive being attached to a hostname) and other inappropriate
words such as 'nigger' are present in the system dictionary. Filtering
70K words seems pretty risky to me.

No cloud that I am aware of currently provisions dictionary words to
cloud instances, and this isn't for lazy reasons IMO.

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't have any machine I can try this on myself to

building test packages with that commit reverted, and will post

[Bug 1287224] Re: MAAS random generated hostnames are not pronounceable

2014-03-06 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
@Gavin,

+1 on removing profanity.

This bug is not as much about creating "memorable" machine names.

It's just about creating machine names that one can pronounce.

It's really hard and ugly to say, "Hey Gavin, can you SSH into sdfknz?"
Versus, "Hey Gavin, can you check port 80 on sidewalls?"

It's just as nasty to talk about
ec2-204-236-254-96.compute-1.amazonaws.com or 06913234-d127-46bb-85eb-
13d8fa8d0022.openstack.

We can do better in MAAS!

73K words should be plenty enough in my mind. However, we should safely
handle overage. There are a few simply options here. After exhausting
all of those words, just start combining them, like $word1-$word2.
73K*73K is about 5 billion. Or just go random or enumerate after that.

+1 on creating a curated list of words from some good wordlists.
Something with a couple of thousand words would be fine. I'm happy to
pull this together, as long as we generally agree with the goals and the
goodness of it :-)

[Bug 1288823] [NEW] Trusty bind9 RRL

2014-03-06 Thread Steve Risteter
Public bug reported:

It would be nice if the bind9 package for trusty included the --enable-
rrl option to mitigate DNS amplification attacks and other DOS style
attacks. ISC has already included this in the upstream code and the
--enable-rrl option needs to be added to the configure statement.

https://kb.isc.org/article/AA-01000/0/A-Quick-Introduction-to-Response-
Rate-Limiting.html

adding the following to /etc/bind/named.conf.options results in an error

rate-limit {
responses-per-second 5;
log-only yes;
};

Mar 6 07:28:56 ubuntu named[23914]: loading configuration from

[Bug 1287964] Re: MAAS incorrectly detects / sets-up BMC information on Dell PowerEdge servers

2014-03-06 Thread Jason Hobbs
I read freeipmi's code to see what the workaround does - it's very
innocuous. It boils down to IPMI sessions being opened with the
privilege level required for the command being used, rather than the
maximum privilege level available for the user/ciphers available. For
ipmipower, freeipmi uses the OPERATOR privilege level, which matches the
IPMI spec's privilege level for the chassis control commands, which are
used to to do on/off operations.

So, this workaround shouldn't have any impact on a system that don't
require it, unless the system breaks IPMI compliance by requiring a
privilege level higher than OPERATOR for power commands.

[Bug 1284376] Re: Go 1.2.1 will be released in early March

2014-03-06 Thread Robie Basak
> As this is past feature freeze, what are the options for getting these
fixes into Trusty?

Is this a bugfix-only release, or will it introduce new features?

If only bugfixes, then being beyond feature freeze is not a problem. If
features, then we need a feature freeze exception from the release team.

>From the upstream thread:

> (Does that mean the version of Go in 14.04 will be the same forever?
If our future releases are backward compatible, can't they be included?
What's the policy?)

Short answer: after release, backported high impact bugfixes only, no
new features. Do upstream maintain a stable branch with a bugfix-only
policy? If so, then a standing exception to stay up-to-date against that
branch is possible, subject to quality requirements.

Full policy, rationale, procedure etc:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

I see that 1.2.1 appears released, and from a quick look it seems that it's
bugfix only. Can somebody please confirm? If this is right then we can just do
it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

You said that this is on a fresh Ubuntu install, which is promising
since it suggests that it should be easier than normal to reproduce.
However, I was unable to reproduce this bug on a fresh Saucy i386 cloud
instance by just installing php5-readline.

I can't figure out what is going on without steps to reproduce, so I'm
marking this bug as Incomplete. Please could you see if you can figure
out the exact steps needed to make this bug recur? Once done, please
change the bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1286515] Re: package apache2-prefork-dev 2.2.22-1ubuntu1.4 failed to install/upgrade: Abhängigkeitsprobleme - verbleibt unkonfiguriert

2014-03-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu.

Specifically, it looks like you have a configuration in /etc/apache2
/mods-enabled which the maintainer script does not understand, and thus
is unable to automatically complete the upgrade.

You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug rather than a problem specific to
your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1287726] Re: Wrong evaluation whether json is valid or not

2014-03-06 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Looks like this is upstream bug https://github.com/remicollet/pecl-
json-c/issues/9, and it is suggested that the problem needs to be fixed
in libjson-c which is at https://github.com/json-c/json-c

This bug will probably not make any progress in Ubuntu until it is fixed
upstream. Any volunteers should seek to fix this upstream for all
distributions at once.

[Bug 1284127] Re: juju 1.17.2 client doesn't like juju 1.17.3 .jenv files

2014-03-06 Thread John A Meinel
The specific bug doesn't have to do with streams or any such thing. As
Andrew mentioned, it is just that we changed the default values for an
item in the environment configuration, and 1.17.2 didn't like the
content being the empty string.

The way to "fix" that is to not use 1.17.2. So I think we're ok.

[Bug 1284127] Re: juju 1.17.2 client doesn't like juju 1.17.3 .jenv files

2014-03-06 Thread John A Meinel
Marked "Won't Fix" because it is technically a bug in 1.17.2's
interpretation of a newer config, 1.16 didn't have that field so it
isn't a stable release compatibility problem.
