[Bug 1291321] [NEW] migration fails between 12.04 Precise and 14.04 Trusty

2014-03-12 Thread Valentijn Sessink
Public bug reported:

We're trying to live migrate machine fhdhvalentijn to a server named ranja.
This used to work perfectly when both systems ran 12.04 Precise. After
upgrading the target machine (ranja) to Trusty, migration fails; sometimes,
migration results in shutting down the VM.
Command: virsh migrate --live --copy-storage-all --verbose vhdhvalentijn
qemu+ssh://ranja/system
Expected: live migration
Result: error: operation failed: migration job: unexpectedly failed

Logfile on server Ranja says:
Length mismatch: vga.vram: 100 in != 80
qemu: warning: error while loading state for instance 0x0 of device 'ram'
load of migration failed
2014-03-12 11:05:30.325+: shutting down

Logfile on server Duikboot (the host) sometimes suddenly says:
2014-03-12 11:18:25.645+: shutting down and then the VM is no
longer running.

I also tried to start the migration from 14.04 (virsh -c
qemu+ssh://duikboot/system migrate --live --copy-storage-all ...), and
also tried to leave out --live (and tried various options like
migrating with virt-manager). Also tried to migrate a virgin machine
(i.e. a newly created machine with default options) - to no avail.

I did not try to migrate directly with qemu - as I have no experience
with that.

[Bug 1290819] Re: Update the 7.x trunk for 12.04LTS

2014-03-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

tomcat7 is in universe in 12.04, so is community supported only. If
somebody prepares a suitable update, the security team will review and
sponsor it. Otherwise, no update is planned. See bug 1115053 for the
last time this was done.

It is fine to use this bug to track the need for this update.

[Bug 1291369] [NEW] dnsmasq can't send OFFERS missing capabilities but doesn't check

2014-03-12 Thread fish
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I'm running dnsmasq in a (docker) container. If I tried to start dnsmasq
without arguments and it failed with:

dnsmasq: setting capabilities failed: Operation not permitted

Guess this is expected because the container has limited privileges. The
odd thing is, if I start it with --no-daemon it starts just fine, it
receives the DISCOVERs and says it's sending the OFFERS. The log shows:

dnsmasq-dhcp: DHCPDISCOVER(eth1) a4:ba:db:0a:3f:ef
dnsmasq-dhcp: DHCPOFFER(eth1) 192.168.101.183 a4:ba:db:0a:3f:ef

But according to tcpdump it's trying to send this as unicast which isn't
possible (I only see arp requests to resolve 192.168.101.183). This is
a strace when answering the request:
https://gist.github.com/discordianfish/687f4cb5756c9cf3d841

No idea whether this is just a obscure bug or dnsmasq trying to be
smart. So guess in the end it needs just better error handling/checks
for capabilities.

[Bug 1290413] Re: postfix-to-mailman.py does not recognize lists that end in a control extension

2014-03-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

The postfix-to-mailman.py script appears to come from packaging, rather
than the upstream Mailman project. The packaging for mailman in Ubuntu
is in sync with Debian at the moment, so this patch would best be
forwarded there.

I also note that your patch appears to be against an old version of this
script, and your patch doesn't currently apply to the current version.
So some modification may be necessary.

Please could you update your patch and forward it to the Debian bug
tracking system?

[Bug 1290347] Re: package postfix 2.10.2-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script was killed by signal (Broken pipe)

2014-03-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If this is indeed a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug rather than a problem specific to
your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1290334] Re: augtool does not properly parse /etc/cups/*.conf

2014-03-12 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

Since this is the intended behaviour, I don't think it qualifies as a
bug in the augeas package in Ubuntu. Augeas upstream would be a better
venue for discussing this sort of change - particularly since changing
the tree would break everyone else relying on the existing behaviour.

Since this is not a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Invalid in
Ubuntu, but feel free to raise the issue elsewhere, or even to continue
to discuss it here.

[Bug 1291378] [NEW] test_CVE_2012_2944 autopkgtest is racy

2014-03-12 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

As you can see in the build history of https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job
/trusty-adt-nut/? the test_CVE_2012_2944 test is rather flaky:

==

I often have to retry the package test two or three times before it
succeeds, particularly when the test machines are busy. So either the
test isn't right, or the security issue that it's supposed to fix isn't
really fixed?

[Bug 954620] Re: SSH StrictModes does not work correctly

2014-03-12 Thread Rodney Beede
Debian has a Debian specific patch (user-group-modes.patch) that changes
the behavior compared to the upstream version of OpenSSH.

If a user ssh file or directory has a group write bit set and that group
has no other members besides the user then sshd now allows the use of
the ssh file or directory.

I've confirmed this behavior in Ubuntu 12.04.

Upstream the change was not accepted for security reasons and that other
distros may not have per-user groups like Debian.

[Bug 1290413] Re: postfix-to-mailman.py does not recognize lists that end in a control extension

2014-03-12 Thread Helge
The patch applies cleanly on the latest mailman for Lucid,
mailman_2.1.13-1ubuntu0.2.
Yes, I know... I am running an old distro.

It seems this has been fixed in Debian Wheezy, currently mailman_2.1.15.
Same applies for the latest package in Precise.

I have attached a diff between the current Lucid and Precise versions.
As you can see, not much is different from the patch I made earlier.

Since the changes are minimal, couldn't we just copy the script from
Precise and put it in an updated package for Lucid?

Re: [Bug 1291369] [NEW] dnsmasq can't send OFFERS missing capabilities but doesn't check

2014-03-12 Thread Simon Kelley
On 12/03/14 13:24, fish wrote:
 Public bug reported:

 Hi,

I'm running dnsmasq in a (docker) container. If I tried to start dnsmasq
without arguments and it failed with:

dnsmasq: setting capabilities failed: Operation not permitted

Guess this is expected because the container has limited privileges. The
odd thing is, if I start it with --no-daemon it starts just fine, it
receives the DISCOVERs and says it's sending the OFFERS. The log shows:

 dnsmasq-dhcp: DHCPDISCOVER(eth1) a4:ba:db:0a:3f:ef
 dnsmasq-dhcp: DHCPOFFER(eth1) 192.168.101.183 a4:ba:db:0a:3f:ef

But according to tcpdump it's trying to send this as unicast which isn't
possible (I only see arp requests to resolve 192.168.101.183). This is
a strace when answering the request:
 https://gist.github.com/discordianfish/687f4cb5756c9cf3d841

No idea whether this is just a obscure bug or dnsmasq trying to be
smart. So guess in the end it needs just better error handling/checks
 for capabilities.

 ** Affects: dnsmasq (Ubuntu)
  Importance: Undecided
  Status: New

From the dnsmasq man page:

-d, --no-daemon
Debug mode: don't fork to the background, don't write a pid
file, don't change user id, generate a complete cache dump on
receipt on SIGUSR1, log to stderr as well as syslog, don't fork new
processes to handle TCP queries. Note that this option is
for use in debugging only, to stop dnsmasq daemonising in production,
  use -k.

Note last sentence.

Cheers,

Simon.

[Bug 1282730] Re: Suspend takes very long, more than 20mins

2014-03-12 Thread Rohan Dhruva
The laptop is doing a hybrid sleep: writing to disk and then sleeping to
RAM. It does not happen when I revert to the default suspend-only mode.

Also, I notice this happens only when my RAM utilisation is high. I
don't know if that is a bug or intended because my swap partition is
small.

[Bug 1282730] Re: Suspend takes very long, more than 20mins

2014-03-12 Thread Rohan Dhruva
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

This could be a linux kernel or a pm-utils bug. However, from the last
few updates, at least from Linux ubuntu 3.13.0-8-generic, suspend is
taking a very long time. It takes over 20mins. The suspend indicator
  keeps blinking.

First few times, I decided to power off the system thinking it's some
other failure. However, yesterday I noticed that the system actually
does suspend: it just takes a lot time (20+ minutes). It didn't take
more than 2-3 minutes in the past.

I have changed my pm settings to do a hybrid sleep when sleep is
selected. I will post the config file soon.

'suspending' or 'hibernating'? Do you have this same problem if you

[Bug 1291527]

2014-03-12 Thread Seth Arnold
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

Please note the following in your logs:

[ 1800.804033] mce: [Hardware Error]: Machine check events logged

MCE are hardware errors and cannot be fixed in software.

Probably your computer needs new motherboard, CPU, memory, or something
else similarly drastic. Thanks.

[Bug 1262710] Re: [MIR] nginx

2014-03-12 Thread Seth Arnold
After discussion between Adam Conrad, Thomas Ward, Dimitri John Ledkov,
and myself, we came to conclusion that we should not remove the nginx-
lua module from the distribution. So, we will re-promote lua5.1 to main
as a build dependency for nginx and continue building the nginx-lua
module so existing users do not have to discover a PPA or self-compile
nginx to keep their Lua-based applications functioning.

Lua 5.1 is already supported in 12.04 LTS for another three years, so
this decision only adds another two years of Lua 5.1 support. Hopefully
the situation will be a little more clear around the time of 16.04 LTS.

Thanks

2014-03-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nginx - 1.4.6-1ubuntu3

---
nginx (1.4.6-1ubuntu3) trusty; urgency=medium

  * Add new binary package for main, nginx-core, which contains only
source-tarball-included modules and no third-party modules.
  * Changes to debian/ directory:
- control:
  + Add entry for nginx-core and nginx-core-dbg.
- rules:
+ Add nginx-core flavor to the build rules.
- nginx-core.*: Add new packaging files for nginx-core based on
  the packaging files for nginx-full.

I am running Debian Wheezy on that machine right now - and it still has the

[Bug 1178933] Re: Time drifting when set to update Automatically from Internet

2014-03-12 Thread Simon Lyall
I just saw the same problem. I'm on a static IP on the local network and
thus ntpdate never runs.

Via the desktop config I had to force it to run by changing from
automatic to manual setting. Checking syslog this was the first time it
had run in at least 7 days and my clock was 19 seconds out.

# zgrep ntp /var/log/syslog*
/var/log/syslog:Mar 13 18:01:34 gold ntpdate[9450]: step time server
91.189.94.4 offset -19.442177 sec
#

Perhaps a backup cron task could be added to run ntpdate daily for
people with stable networks.
